Thou Shalt Not…

Do not Violate the Sanctimony of The Politically Correct Leftist Activist or else they will find a judge who crush you for your impudence, slave.

This, by the way, is the “pro-choice”, “tolerance”, “diversity”, “fair”, “compassionate” Left. 🙂

Owners of a family farm in Schaghticoke, New York, are being fined $13,000 for refusing to allow a gay wedding ceremony to take place on their property in 2012, just one year after the state legalized same-sex nuptials.

Cynthia and Robert Gifford, owners of Liberty Ridge Farm, a family-friendly farm and special events venue, told Jennifer McCarthy and Melisa Erwin, a lesbian couple from Newark, New Jersey, that they were welcome to hold their reception on the property, but not the actual wedding ceremony, according to Religion News Service.

The Giffords live on the premises and these ceremonies are typically conducted on the first floor of their home or on the nearby property. Considering that they are Christians and consider marriage to be confined to relationships involving one man and one woman, the two weren’t comfortable hosting McCathy and Erwin’s nuptials.

An attorney for the couple told Religion News Service that the two have both employed gay staffers and hosted events for same-sex couples in the past, but that a gay wedding ceremony in their home was too close for comfort.

McCarthy and Erwin weren’t happy with this rejection, so they took their complaint to the New York’s Division of Human Rights, claiming that they were discriminated against as a result of their sexual orientation.

Yeah, like it was the only wedding chapel type farm in all of North America. Boo-Hoo. Gee, ever heard of talking your money somewhere else, instead of ringing your Lawyer on speed dial!

A judge subsequently ruled in their favor in the case New York State Division of Human Rights v. Liberty Ridge Farm, rejecting the Giffords’ argument that the family owns a private business that is legally permitted to issue such refusals.

Judge Migdalia Pares, who argued that the fact that the owners live on the premises does not mean that the business is private in nature, ruled that Liberty Ridge Farm is a public accommodation as it rents its space and regularly collects fees from the public.

So their house is a public accommodation? Fascinating…

As a result, the judge found that the couple must abide by anti-discrimination regulations under New York’s Human Rights Law, ruling that the Giffords must pay a $10,000 fine and give an additional $1,500 each to McCarthy and Erwin, Religion News Service reported.

“No one should have the happiest time of their life marred by discrimination,” McCarthy, who was represented alongside her wife by the New York Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement, according to the New York Law Journal. “We hope this decision will protect all New Yorkers from having to go through the hurt that we experienced.”

Or, they could have just been mature and “tolerant” and gone somewhere else. But no, the little Dominatrix’s wanted you to bow down to them or else!

They wanted to be offended so they could get their Speed Dial Lawyers and Leftist Agenda Judges out to summarily crush the infidels who dared to defy them!

But attorney James Trainor of Cutler, Trainor & Cutler, who represented the Giffords, said that the recent Hobby Lobby Supreme Court decision that barred the government from forcing small companies with religious objections to provide controversial birth control devices for employees should have been considered in this case.

“The judge and commissioner each had the opportunity to reconsider the Giffords’ religious rights after the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that businesses can exercise the religious rights of their owners in Hobby Lobby decision of June 30, yet failed to do so,” Trainor told the New York Law Journal.

It is currently unclear whether the Giffords will continue a legal battle against the ruling.

A phone message left for the Giffords by TheBlaze Thursday was not immediately returned. (The Blaze)

Unfortunately, New York’s Human Right’s law (Executive Law, art. 15) creates special privileges based on sexual orientation that trump the rights of business owners. Because the Giffords’ family farm is open to the public for business, New York classifies it as a “public accommodation” and then mandates that it not “discriminate” on the basis of sexual orientation.

So they have special rights. They are More “equal” than you. Now that’s fair.

Man, I need to see if I can find my college roommates, The Gay Wiccan and The Satanist, we need a New York Holiday. 🙂

Of course the Giffords were not engaging in any insidious discrimination—they were acting on their belief about the nature of marriage. They do not object to gay or lesbian customers attending the fall festivals, or going berry picking, or doing any of the other activities that the farm facilitates. The Giffords’ only objection is to being forced to abide by the government’s views on sexuality and host a same-sex wedding. The Human Rights Commission has now declared this historic belief about marriage to be “discrimination.”

The Giffords must pay a $1,500 mental anguish fine to each of the women and pay $10,000 in civil damages penalty to New York State. If they can’t pay in 60 days, a nine percent interest rate will be added to that total. Like Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop, the Giffords must also institute anti-discrimination re-education classes and procedures for their staff.

The question before all citizens is whether this law and this fine are just. Should the government be able to force family businesses to betray their consciences and participate in ceremonies that violate their beliefs? Should the government be in the business of “rehabilitating” consciences or “re-educating” its citizens to change their moral beliefs about the definition of marriage?

Government should not create special legal privileges based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Instead, government should protect the rights of Americans and the associations they form to act in the public square in accordance with their beliefs. The Giffords’ case illustrates the growing conflict between religious liberty rights and laws that grant special privileges based on sexual orientation and gender identity. In a nation founded on limited government and religious freedom, government should not attempt to coerce any citizen, association, or business into celebrating same-sex relationships.

But we’re talking about the Sanctimony and the Outrage of the Politically Correct Thought Police Leftists who want to force you, in the name of “fairness”, “tolerance” and “diversity” to bow down and submit to them like a good submissive slave does to their Masters and Mistresses.

Infidels!!!

What could possibly be wrong with that? 🙂

Balkan Barack

“What you’ve seen with our politics, partly because of gerrymandering, partly because of the Balkanization of media so people just watch what reinforces their deepest biases, partly because of big money in politics, is increasingly politicians are rewarded for taking the most extreme, maximalist positions,” Obama told the liberal Times columnist. “Sooner or later, that catches up with you. You end up not being able to move forward on things we need to move forward on. We need to reform our immigration system. That would be good not just for our domestic economy but for our position in the world. You travel around Latin America—nothing would more reinforce an admiration for the United States than us doing that. We need to rebuild our infrastructure. You go to the Singapore airport and then you come back to one of our airports and you say, huh? We’re not acting like a superpower.”

But that’s not his fault, I bet. It’s not the fault of Liberal indoctrination and Liberal Bias in the Media either….After all, they are on the side of Angels and have all the good intentions.

Mean, evil, corrupt, conservatives! (who only have a minority of power in the Media and 1/3 of the government!)

Damn them! 🙂

I would laugh at the hilariously blind partisanship of it all, but it’s not funny.

Way to go Mr. “Transparent” “Unity” President! 🙂

Want proof, continue…

Our fiscal position, actually, now is such—you know, the deficit’s been cut by more than half—where we’re in a position to make some smart investments that have huge payoffs, that historically have not been controversial, historically have garnered bipartisan support. But because of this maximalist ideological position, we’ve been blocked. I have to say here, I’ve been speaking in generalities, and trying not to be too political, but that ideological extremism and maximalist position is much more prominent right now in the Republican Party than the Democrats. Democrats have problems, but overall if you look at the Democratic consensus, it’s a pretty commonsense, mainstream consensus. It’s not a lot of wacky ideological nonsense, the way it is generally fact-based and reason-based. We’re not denying science, we’re not denying climate change, we’re not pretending that somehow having a whole bunch of uninsured people is the American way. We’re doing things that are pretty sensible. I’m optimistic that these things go in cycles, and that the Republican Party will eventually free itself from the grip of this kind of extremist ideology. But it’s necessary to happen soon.

Yeah them debt has gone up over $7 trillion dollars under Obama, but “the deficit has gone down” meaning he overspeands less now than he did earlier on!

Common Sense and Science, that’s the Democrat Party in 2014!

So how about that Immigration Bill that was passed last week, oh, right, it wasn’t what your ideological agenda wanted so you ignored it like it never existed just like 300 other bills. But don’t worry, Democrats aren’t bound by “maximalist” “extremist” partisanship!!

Orwell is proud of your narcissistic partisan blindness, my son. You are the poster child for doublethink.

THE AGENDA IS THE AGENDA.

VOTE FOR ME, THE OTHER GUY’s AN EXTREMIST ARSEHOLE! 🙂

Less Offensive

Whatever one’s view about the name “Redskins,” the public should worry about the government bowing to political pressure and stripping a trademark nearly 80 years after it was first used. Where will it end?

Surely the Cleveland Indians’ mascot has to go. Chief Wahoo is a goofy cartoon depiction of a Native American, whereas the Redskins logo shows a dignified and stoic warrior.

And the Atlanta Braves….

And how about the “Fighting Irish”? Doesn’t that feed into the disparaging image of drunken Irishmen? Or the “Buccaneers” and the “Raiders,” which seem to be derogatory terms for pirates? How many “Vikings” mascots wear a farcical, and historically inaccurate, horned helmet?

Or the Red Mesa High School Redskins, on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona. 🙂

redskins

Currently, federal trademark law does not allow the registration of any names that bring individuals or groups into contempt or disrepute. The PTO cited this rule in their decision regarding the Redskins’ name.

Here are twelve other trademarked names that apparently didn’t come up on anyone’s offense radar.

Yes, that is a trademark for FAG. FAG is a mark for “technical lubricating oils and greases.” Yep. The mark is registered and is not pending cancelation. This is not offensive according to the USPTO.

Figgas over Niggas: This pending trademark seeks to cover a line of “Apparel for dancers, namely, tee shirts, sweatshirts, pants, leggings, shorts and jackets.” “Niggas,” of course, is a slang version of the word “nigger,” a term considered highly offensive towards black Americans.

Kraut Kap: Another recently-filed trademark, this one for a line of plastic lids. “Kraut” was made famous in World War II as a derogatory term for opposing German soldiers, as well as Germans in general.

Dago Swagg: A label created for a line of clothing. ”Dago” is a corruption of the common name Diego, and is used in English-speaking countries as an offensive term for those of Italian descent, and occasionally people from other Mediterranean countries as well.

Cracka Azz Skateboards: Unsurprisingly, this trademark was taken out for a line of skateboards and longboards, as well as associated clothing such as bandannas. While the USPTO helpfully notes that “The wording ‘cracka azz’ has no meaning in a foreign language,” “cracka” is a slang version of “cracker,” which in this context is a term of derision for whites, used primarily within the black community.

You Can’t Make A Housewife Out Of A Whore: This trademark for T-shirts and hats appears to imply that women involved in prostitution can never transition into the domestic role of a housewife. Such an accusation would certainly “bring them into contempt or disrepute,” the stated reasoning for eliminating the Redskins trademark.

Blanco Basura: A seemingly innocuous phrase, Blanco Basura, rendered into English, is actually the highly offensive slur “white trash.” White trash is a derogatory insult that typically refers to poor, white Americans, who have a penchant for crime and a patent disrespect for authority. Apparently, they thought they could go unnoticed designing a hateful beer.

Home Cookin Biscuit Head: Intentionality, as we well know, is not required in order for something to be highly, highly offensive. They should’ve done their due diligence before designing this logo for the restaurant industry. The term “biscuit head” has its origins in the Korean War, when American GIs picked this unseemly term to describe the shape of Koreans’ heads.

‘teensdoporn.com’: This is a classic example (Safe For Work) of a harmful stereotype used to justify condescension toward teens in the form of countless hours of sex-ed in high school. It wrongfully supposes that all teens are sex-crazed maniacs, who given the chance, will opt for trading their sexuality on a website for fame and fortune.

Gypsy Soule Women Who Live By Their Own Rules: This line of makeup containers and tote bags is a double whammy. “Gypsy” is a term for the itinerant Romani people that derives from the erroneous belief they originated from Egypt, rather than India. In addition, the “Live by their own rules” component hearkens to the common stereotype that Romani routinely ignore the law and engage in criminality.

Mammy Jamia’s: A company going by the name of A & S Cairns Limited has decided to attach its good name to an antebellum slur used to refer to an enslaved black woman who was in charge of household affairs, particularly caring for white children. The product? Frozen fruits and vegetables. Was it really worth it, A &S?

Uppity Negro: Intended to be imprinted on mugs and apparel, this trademark references the frequently used adjective “uppity” to describe blacks who agitated for greater respect and civil rights in the Jim Crow-era South.

All Natural My Dadz Nutz Carmelized Jumbo Redskins: Available at MyDadzNutz.com, this line of savory peanuts is unlikely to run into trouble for applying “redskin” to a line of peanuts. One might argue the two terms describe different things, and so the overlap does not matter, but that hasn’t stopped the old name for Brazil nuts from fading away. Kaffir limes, meanwhile, are a discouraged name in the Oxford Companion to Food, as “kaffir” is a highly offensive term for blacks in South Africa. (DC)

And since the law specifically forbids “immoral” or “scandalous” matter, how is it that the USPTO saw fit to make “Boobies Make Me Smile” a registered trademark? Or “PornHub”? There must be plenty of people who find those deeply offensive.

Perhaps, rather than let the Patent Office use that 1946 law to appease today’s interest groups, Congress should strip it of this moral authority altogether, or at least strictly limit it. After all, isn’t the free market a better arbiter of what’s appropriate in today’s society than a handful of pale-faced Washington bureaucrats?

Much Better than Washington Redskins… 🙂

No selective PC “moral outrage” or Political hackery here. Move along…. 🙂

BlackFace, Black Eye

A white Michigan middle school teacher remains suspended two weeks after he was placed an administrative leave. (Update farther down)

Wait for it… 🙂

His crime?

Teaching history.

According to parents whose children are in the eighth- grade class, the administrator thought the lesson plan was offensive and racist.

Alan Barron was teaching his eighth-grade class about the history of racial segregation when he showed a video featuring blackface.

OH NO! The Truth is the end of civilized society as The Liberals see it!

History prior to 1964 must be a real bitch to teach then. Imagine how hard it was in Ancient Rome. 🙂

Oh, right, Liberals only want to teach politically correct history so that you’re an easily manipulated moron.

The video was historical, showing how white Americans used blackface to mockingly imitate black people as part of a broader social scheme of repression — but a school administrator sitting in on the class found it inappropriate, and Barron was suspended the next day.

The district, through spokesman Bobb Vergiels, would not acknowledge that Mr. Barron was suspended and only stated that he is “on leave.”

Actually, he didn’t mention his name (according to Monroe news): “The teacher in question was placed on paid leave to give the district time to fully consider what occurred in this classroom,”

Even here, Liberal prevaricate. 🙂

He was only a month from retirement, having served 36 years with the school district.

According to parents whose children are in the eighth- grade class, the administrator thought the lesson plan was offensive and racist. Mr. Barron was suspended the next day Adrienne Aaron’s husband is African American, and their child was in the class. She said Mr. Barron simply was showing the students what occurred in history. She said her daughter was not offended and felt the subject needs to be discussed.

“(My child) was more offended that they stopped the video,” Adrienne Aaron, who is married to a black man and whose child was in Barron’s class, told the Monroe News. “It had nothing to do with racism. History is history. We need to educate our kids to see how far we’ve come in America. How is that racism?”

“Mr. Barron is a darn good teacher, people get offended over everything these days,” wrote one commenter. “Even history.”

Yep, that would par for the course with the Politically Correct Thought Police.

“Mr. Barron is one of the … great teachers we have in Monroe Public Schools,” one parent wrote in a letter that was distributed through Facebook. “ He has changed many children’s lives over the course of his career. If Mr. Barron felt that he was teaching something that was offensive, he would most definitely not have done it.”

During his suspension, Mr. Barron is not allowed to attend district functions, including an annual banquet where retiring teachers are honored.

“It’s so sad this has happened to him,” Mrs. Aaron said. “He’s one of the best teachers we’ve had. We can’t believe that this is happening.”

UPDATE AT 8:42 P.M. Sunday – The Monroe News has learned that Al Barron was reinstated Sunday evening (after about two weeks of embarrassment).

The hyperactive, sugar-rush, Hyper-ventilating judgmental “diversity”obsessed “tolerant” LEFTISTs got shamed into it no doubt.

Did they learn anything from it? HELL NO!

How do you know?

When he was reinstated the only person talking was the teacher’s lawyer. The Leftists had crawled under their PC rock waiting like a rattlesnake to strike again.

But in a recorded message sent to district employees Sunday night, Monroe Public Schools Supt. Dr. Barry Martin said the information that was reported was incorrect and that the district was not opposed to Mr. Barron’s teaching methods.

“As a result of incorrect information presented within the community, there is a perception that the district was opposed to a teacher providing students with information about the history of racial issues in this country,” Dr. Martin said in a phone message and through a posting on the Monroe Public Schools Facebook page. “This simply is not true and is a misinterpretation of the concern.”

Bwah hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha!  See what I mean… 🙂

It appears the PC police was likely a recently promoted teacher (to Assistant Principal) according to Facebook sources (after she deactivated her page because she was fire-bombed by what I’m sure the left would call “rac*st” sympathizers) after all, The assistant principal also apparently ordered that Barron stop the video as it was being played.

A leftist with new found power, more dangerous than that rattlesnake.

Pity his students when the Politically Correct and more “sensitive” replacement comes in.

Just Give Up

I passionately disagree with Bill Maher’s Left wing politics. But on the following he nailed it.

BILL MAHER: Now that Americans are getting wise to the dangers of being spied on by the government, they have to start getting more alarmed about spying on each other. Because at the Donald Sterling mess proved anything it’s that there’s a force out there just as powerful as Big Brother — Big Girlfriend.

Last week, when President Obama was asked about the Sterling episode, he said, ‘When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, just let them talk.’ But Sterling didn’t advertise, he was bugged. And while he may not be worth defending, the Fourth Amendment is. That’s the one that says we have the right to be secure in our person, in our homes, in our property. Well, not if bitching to your girlfriend in your home loses you your property. Well, not if bitching to your girlfriend in your home loses you your property.

In an op-ed in The Washington Post, Kathleen Parker offered one way with dealing the modern world’s ubiquitous invasions of privacy: give up. She wrote: ‘If you don’t want your words broadcast in the public square, don’t say them.’ Really? Even at home? We have to talk like a White House press spokesman?

That’s Orwell’s Thought Police, Newspeak, and Crimethink.
She then looked on the bright side by saying, ‘Such potential exposure forces us to more carefully select our words and edit our thoughts.’ Always editing? I rather be a Mormon. And that’s what we all would be — Mitt Romney. I would listen to a hundred horrific Cliven Bundy rants if that was the price of living in a world where I could also hear interesting and funny people talk without a filter.

Welcome to 1984, for real. Where 249th pick of the NFL Draft is a star because he’s gay and Tim Tebow, a First Round Pick is a “distraction” because he’s a Christian!

Christopher Hitchens said “Islamophobic is a word created by fascists, and used by cowards, to manipulate morons.

Perhaps most chilling of all, Parker said, ‘Speaking one’s mind isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be.’ Which is quite a statement, since her job is speaking her mind. It’s like mailman telling you that letters are stupid.

You can speak your mind, as long as the Thought Police approve of what you’re saying. If not…well…. 🙂

So let me get this straight. We should concede that there is no such thing anymore as a private conversation, so therefore remember to lawyer everything you say before you say it, and, hey, speaking your mind is overrated anyway, so you won’t miss it. Well, I’ll miss it, I’ll miss it a lot. And for the record, speaking my mind is absolutely everything it is cracked up to be.

AMEN!

So many things have let me down in life: the iPod Nano, the Spiderman musical, Al Gore for president, M. Night Shyamalan movies, the entire 80s, Lance Armstrong, my scout leader. But speaking my mind? Priceless. Does anyone really want there to be no place where we can let our hair down and not worry if the bad angel in our head occasionally grabs the mic?

Yes, Politically Correct Liberals.

After all, one of there Queens Rachel Maddow points out that while some red state governors are suffering harsh budgetary consequences for reckless tax-cut policies, President Obama is showing continued success at reducing the deficit faster than at any time since World War Two.

But the debt has gone up $7 1/2 TRILLION Dollars in 5 1/2 years. But don’t mind me I’m just a “hater” and I need to be “re-educated” or at the very least have my thoughts corrected so I don’t cause a fuss with bad information.

I have impure thoughts and I should just edit myself before I say them or type them.

He’s Overspending Less every year so we should celebrate his greatness you “racist” hater you!!  🙂

What about the bathroom? Not a public bathroom, of course I expect to be taped and photographed in there. But my bathroom at home. Would it be okay if that was kind of a cone of silence where I can invite friends in to speak freely? Who wants to live in a world where the only privacy you have is inside your head? That’s what life in East Germany was like, that’s why we fought the Cold War, remember? So we never have to live in some awful limbo, where you never knew who, even among your friends, was an informer. And now we are doing it to ourselves. Well don’t. Don’t be a part of the problem.

That’s 1984 for you. You don’t know who’s working for the Ministry so you have to guard your thoughts, thus control your thoughts 24/7/365 for your entire life. Doesn’t that sound like freedom? 🙂

If this was a campaign ad, I’d say, ‘Call Kathleen Parker and tell her you’re not ready to edit what you say in private.’ And just to fuck with her head, tell her you have an audio of a book party she gave at home with 5 close female friends, all of whom had way too much wine. Because I’m sure there has been that night, and she wouldn’t want that tape to come out. Who would? Because we’re humans, we’re not that good.

But sanctimonious Liberals want to exploit it.

We’re not ready to live in a world where everything has to come out perfectly in the first take. There’s a reason houses have doors on them and windows have shades. And if I want to sit in the privacy of my living room and say I think The Little Mermaid is hot and I want to bang her, or I don’t like watching two men kiss, or I think tattoos look terrible on black people, I should be able to, even if you think it makes me an asshole. Now, do I really believe those things? I’m not telling you because you’re not in my living room!

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.”-Gandhi

And Liberals believe they are superior to you, so they condescend to you, then they want to control you for your own good, and they habitually think nothing of you and they value on their continued superiority and their authoritarian destiny where they rule all that they survey and everyone bows down to them and no impure thoughts escape.

Welcome, Citizen to the Liberal Utopia. 🙂

P.s.

But if you read the article it’s not quite so drastic and somewhat passive aggressive Liberalism, funny that. 🙂

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/kathleen-parker-cliven-bundys-and-donald-sterlings-sobering-message/2014/04/29/66863b9e-cfcf-11e3-a6b1-45c4dffb85a6_story.html

You decide, in your own head. 🙂

Why You Should Care

Mozilla, the company that makes the web browser Firefox, committed the only unforgivable sin progressives have – it hired someone who didn’t toe the progressive line to be its CEO. Uniformity of thought is the new black, and a straying from that plantation lands you on the new blacklist. That’s where Brendan Eich finds himself now for daring to stray from the progressives’ plantation on gay marriage.

And if you think just because you’re not a Christian it doesn’t concern you…I’m not a formal Christian at all….

How did Eich stray? Did he take to the streets, shout from the mountaintop, or even take an active role in a campaign? No, he wrote a check, for all of $1,000, to support the campaign in favor of California’s Proposition 8 – the gay marriage ban which was supported overwhelmingly by voters. Not to have gays rounded up and killed or put in camps (those are progressive traits), or even to have homosexuality outlawed, but simply to not change the definition of marriage to fit the political flavor of the moment.

Eich’s donation in support of Prop 8 was confidential, by law. The only reason it is known, why any of the donations are known, is the Internal Revenue Service illegally leaked the donor list to a gay rights group who posted it online. Someone in government broke the law and gave what amounts to a “hit list” to progressive foot soldiers who have been targeting donors for their personal beliefs.

Ideology first, law 2nd. Sound familiar?

In this case it was gay groups, but these tactics are a favorite of progressives. Under communism people who didn’t embrace their agenda were purged, under fascism the nonconformists were sent to re-education/work camps, or killed. Progressives can’t simply murder or imprison people who flee their thought plantation, though they’d like to, so they try to ruin them in the meantime.

Fascists are always going to be around. They are the core of the progressive heart. But it’s a new and disturbing development when agents in our own government are aiding progressives in their thought  (Police) jihad.

Eich had no intention of changing Mozilla’s corporate policy toward gays, but that didn’t matter. Tolerance isn’t enough. As Erick Erickson put it, “You will be made to care.”

<<Insert bad Godfather accent here>>

Erick Erickson:

Let me make it clear for you — you will be required to care.Gay rights advocates on the steady march toward and past gay marriage will make you care. They will not give you room to sit on the fence.

Tim Keller has gotten a lot of heat for saying that “you can believe homosexuality is a sin and still believe that same-sex marriage should be legal.” He was not talking about himself. He was talking about the compromise many young evangelicals are making.

Some, though, are going the next step to.

The left will allow no fence sitting. You may not believe me. You may think me hyperbolic. But the history of the world shows this. Events ultimately come to a head. They boil to their essence. And at that point you must choose.

That is why so many Christians are fighting. Because we see in Europe and Canada what will happen here. Christianity is a religion of the city square. Christ compels us to “go forth and teach.” It is the Great Commission. We cannot go forth and teach when the left bars us from the town square.

Many people say we should have legal gay marriage, but not have religious gay marriage. The left will not honor the distinction. Look to Canada. Preachers can be brought up for hate crimes charges merely for discussing passages of the Bible that deal with same sex sexual relations. You may not care that it is a sin, but the world surely does.Look at Louie Giglio, who could not honor the President at his inauguration because of his orthodox Christian beliefs on this subject.

In short, you may choose not to care and in so doing sit on the sidelines or give aid and comfort to the open minded and tolerant who want gay marriage so everyone can have equal rights.

The time will come, more quickly than you can imagine, when you will be made to care. It is not, as mjdaniels posits, this:

If, as the anti-SSM crowd would have it, the levers of State are to be wielded to enforce the commands of Scripture, then pardon me, but what the H-E-double-hockey-sticks are we doing spending so much time, energy and effort fighting to overturn Obamacare?

We are not using the state to enforce the commands of Scripture. We are using the state to protect our ability to preach the scripture under the first amendment. If the state has the power to change the definition of an institution that it did not create, but that God himself created, the state can compel and coerce the church to honor that definition or sit on the sidelines.

A Christian on the sidelines is a Christian not going forth. You can be a sincere Christian and support the idea of gay marriage. But you would also be foolish to ignore what is going to happen to the church once the state decides something is a matter of equal protection. You can dismiss me now, but you are ignoring what’s already happening.

Keep in mind as well that many of those who you make look to for reassurance that I’m wrong are hostile to the church already and will not be on the side of the church as the equal protection arguments against it grow.

The state did not create marriage and it should not now exert the power to change the definition of that which it did not create.  Those of you who are Christians who support gay marriage will one day have Archbishop Chaput burning in your ears. He said that evil peddles tolerance until it is dominant then seeks to silence good. That’s why Christians fight on this issue. It is not to force themselves on others, but to protect themselves from others being forced on them.

Back to Derek Hunter: did a man most people have never heard of become the focus of a nationwide campaign to deny him his job for thinking differently? A dating website.

The website OkCupid posted a letter that appeared only when users accessed the site using Firefox as its browser that said, “Mozilla’s new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid.”

It continues with a lie about Eich wanting to make gay relationships “illegal,” because why let the truth stand in the way of an agenda? And it concludes, “OkCupid is for creating love. Those who seek to deny love and instead enforce misery, shame, and frustration are our enemies, and we wish them nothing but failure.”

It reads pretty much the same in its original German.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.

Just insert Christian, Conservatives and anyone who dares cross the Progressive Agenda Mafia.

Now do you care? 🙂

The president doesn’t give  <a> care – if anyone on his staff bothered to tell him. He’s called all scandals related to the IRS targeting Americans for their beliefs (as long as they disagree with him) as “phony.” Democrats have fallen in line, obstructing ongoing investigations into any and all Obama administration scandals.

This disinterest from Democrats is ironic since such groups are allowed to keep their donors’ names secret because of actions by Democrats in the 1950s. Alabama, then a racist Democratic stronghold, wanted the member list of the NAACP for reasons one easily can imagine. The NAACP, fully aware Democrats and Jim Crow were one in the same, sought to protect its members from targeting and refused. The case went to the Supreme Court, which ruled unanimously groups could keep their members secret.

The case, NAACP vs. Alabama, was important because it protected people from being targeted because of their views and allowed them to work for their objectives anonymously if they wished. No longer – at least if you’re not a progressive.

The Eich case was summed up perfectly by Andrew Sullivan when he wrote, “Will he now be forced to walk through the streets in shame? Why not the stocks? The whole episode disgusts me – as it should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society.”

The plight of a wealthy CEO may not inspire sympathy, but what it represents should worry everyone, regardless of politics. This week it’s gay marriage. Next week it will be something else. But it always will be something. More and more, hearing “celebrate diversity” means listening to like-minded drones, albeit of different colors. Those who think outside their prescribed, accepted thoughts have no place in progressive America.

The vast majority of Americans, even those who vote for Democrats or call themselves progressives, are not in tune with the radical fascistic activist fringe that is steering their ship. Decent human beings have limits – and the idea of people being targeted and destroyed because they disagree with those in power is abhorrent. Unfortunately, none of those decent human beings seem to be working for OkCupid, this administration, or in Congress as Democrats right now.

A thoughtcrime is an occurrence or instance of controversial or socially unacceptable thoughts.

The Thought Police use surveillance and psychological monitoring to find and eliminate members of society who challenge the party’s authority and ideology.[6]

The Thought Police of Orwell and their pursuit of thoughtcrime were based on the methods used by the totalitarian states and ideologies of the 20th century.

The term “Thought Police”, by extension, has come to refer to real or perceived enforcement of ideological correctness.

The Thought Police Triumphant.

ARE YOU NOW OR HAVE YOU EVER BEEN…

Intolerance: The left hounded a CEO from his job over a 2008 donation in favor of a California measure opposing gay marriage. So much for free speech and job performance. This is a descent into mob tyranny and mediocrity.

The dirty work of the left was achieved after Brendan Eich, recently appointed CEO of Mozilla, a software company based in Silicon Valley, was forced out of the company he helped found, all to feed the maw of political correctness.

Eich’s “crime” had nothing to do with his job performance, let alone the inclusive work atmosphere he fostered at Mozilla. All it involved was free speech, through a $1,000 donation he made to express support of 2008’s Proposition 8 ballot measure.

That triggered grandstanding and resignations from staff at Mozilla, a 70,000-strong petition from another group, and the dating website OKCupid blocking access by Mozilla’s Firefox browser.

It was sickeningly out of proportion to what after all is a mainstream point of view held by millions of Americans — including President Obama, at least until last year — and has nothing to do with whether one likes or respects gay people.

No, it’s all about the lemminglike groupthink agenda of certain gay lobbies and the ideological intolerance inculcated into the young by academic elites.

Moves like this serve to create fear and silence, and with it a court of artifice and hypocrisy — not openness, persuasion and dialogue. Did the baying mobs who chased Eich out change any minds? Nope.

All they did was get word out that dialogue is out of the question and that political correctness trumps merit, a very bad sign for a merit-oriented community like Silicon Valley, where nonconformity, wild ideas and hostility to formalities until now have fueled its dynamism.

With Mozilla’s leadership now decapitated, the company, including its gay employees, will suffer.

And with political correctness ascendant, it’s inevitable that Mozilla’s gray, Soviet-style bureaucrats, mouthing the party line by heart and producing nothing of value, will become the stagnant norm there. (IBD)

But at least the Mafia got what THEY wanted, now everyone can be happy…. 🙂

Frog Tales

“That’s the good thing about being president. I can do whatever I want.” – President Obama

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Obama officials made clear in a press briefing that firms would not be allowed to lay off workers to get into the preferred class of those businesses with 50 to 99 employees. How will the feds know what employers were thinking when hiring and firing? Simple. Firms will be required to certify to the IRS – under penalty of perjury – that ObamaCare was not a motivating factor in their staffing decisions. To avoid ObamaCare costs you must swear that you are not trying to avoid ObamaCare costs. You can duck the law, but only if you promise not to say so.

And having the IRS serve as the talking-point enforcer for businesses tempted to speak out about firings under the law will sure help message discipline. (FOX)

Gee, no one saw the IRS Gestapo/Thought Police coming… 🙂

Desperate to keep ObamaCare from hurting Democrats’ chances in the midterm elections this November, the Obama administration is putting off part of the employer mandate for yet another year.

On Monday, administration officials said that companies with between 50 and 99 workers won’t have to comply with the mandate until 2016. Those with more than 100 workers will still have to provide “affordable” health benefits to their workers or pay a steep fine.

But larger firms will have to cover only 70% of their full-time workers next year to avoid any penalty, and 95% the year after. The Treasury Department claimed the delay was because medium-sized firms “need a little more time to adjust to providing coverage.”

Pure poppycock. The one and only reason for this delay is political. Obama wants to hide the job-killing effects of ObamaCare until after midterm elections.

When the administration first delayed the employer mandate last July — pushing it off to January 2015 — it claimed that companies needed more time to comply with all the new paperwork burdens.

Apparently, however, they didn’t realize this delay would force companies to confront the cost of the ObamaCare mandate just before the November elections. Thus the new extension.

The administration has now changed the law dozens of times, mainly to deal with political land mines going off. No one can make any serious plans based on it.

Just before its latest revision, for example, Obama decided to let people who wanted to keep their current plans do so for more than just one year. This was another political concession meant to prevent another round of cancellations stories.

The problem is that this law was supposedly written so all the pieces fit together just so.

Without an employer mandate, for example, companies would be more tempted to dump workers into the ObamaCare exchanges, forcing taxpayers to pick up the tab for any insurance subsidies.

And the claim that ObamaCare wouldn’t add to the deficit depended to some degree on companies paying those penalties. No employer mandate, no penalty.

Meanwhile, Republicans and conservatives have been busy crafting credible alternatives to ObamaCare — calling Obama’s recent bluff that he’ll consider any ideas so long as they help cover the uninsured, protect those with health problems, and cut health costs. (None of which ObamaCare effectively achieves, by the way.)

After the latest delay, House Majority Leader John Boehner complained that “once again, the president is rewriting law on a whim.”

It’s actually worse than that.

Obama is unilaterally changing ObamaCare for a reason. He wants to stretch the pain out as long as possible, hoping no one will notice they’ve been cooked. (IBD)

Because you throw a frog in Boiling Water, it leaps out. Throw it in cold or warm water and turn up the heat it boil to death. Just like you on ObamaCare.

Say who are those guys in the Black suits coming to the door… 🙂

Doublespeak is language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words.

What is really important in the world of doublespeak is the ability to lie, whether knowingly or unconsciously, and to get away with it; and the ability to use lies and choose and shape facts selectively, blocking out those that don’t fit an agenda or program.

Newspeak is the fictional language in the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, written by George Orwell. It is a reduced language created by the totalitarian state as a tool to limit free thought, and concepts that pose a threat to the regime such as freedom, self-expression, individuality, peace, etc. Any form of thought alternative to the party’s construct is classified as “thoughtcrime,” “crimethink,” or “doublethink.”

thoughtcrime is the criminal act of holding unspoken beliefs or doubts that oppose or question the ruling party.

To entertain unacceptable thought is known as crimethink in Newspeak, the ideologically purified dialect of the party.

The aim of Newspeak is to remove all shades of meaning from language, leaving simple concepts (pleasure and pain, happiness and sadness, goodthink and crimethink) that reinforce the total dominance of the State. Newspeak root words serve as both nouns and verbs, further reducing the total number of words; for example, “think” is both noun and verb, so the word thought is not required and can be abolished. The party also intends that Newspeak be spoken in staccato rhythms with syllables that are easy to pronounce. This will make speech more automatic and unconscious and reduce the likelihood of thought

Mark Steyn:He who controls the language shapes the debate: In the same week the Associated Press announced that it would no longer describe illegal immigrants as “illegal immigrants,” the star columnist of The New York Times fretted that the Supreme Court seemed to have misplaced the style book on another fashionable minority. “I am worried,” wrote Maureen Dowd, “about how the justices can properly debate same-sex marriage when some don’t even seem to realize that most Americans use the word ‘gay’ now instead of ‘homosexual.'” She quoted her friend Max Mutchnick, creator of “Will & Grace”:

“Scalia uses the word ‘homosexual’ the way George Wallace used the word ‘Negro.’ There’s a tone to it. It’s humiliating and hurtful. I don’t think I’m being overly sensitive, merely vigilant.”

For younger readers, George Wallace was a powerful segregationist Democrat. Whoa, don’t be overly sensitive. There’s no “tone” to my use of the word “Democrat”; I don’t mean to be humiliating and hurtful: it’s just what, in pre-sensitive times, we used to call a “fact.” Likewise, I didn’t detect any “tone” in the way Justice Scalia used the word “homosexual”. He may have thought this was an appropriately neutral term, judiciously poised midway between “gay” and “Godless sodomite.” Who knows? He’s supposed to be a judge, and a certain inscrutability used to be part of what we regarded as a judicial temperament. By comparison, back in 1986, the year Scalia joined the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice Warren Burger declared “there is no such thing as a fundamental right to commit homosexual sodomy”. I don’t want to be overly sensitive, but I think even I, if I rewound the cassette often enough, might be able to detect a certain tone to that.

Nonetheless, Max Mutchnick’s “vigilance” is a revealing glimpse of where we’re headed. Canada, being far more enlightened than the hotbed of homophobes to its south, has had gay marriage coast to coast for a decade. Statistically speaking, one third of one per cent of all Canadian nuptials are same-sex, and, of that nought-point-three-three, many this last decade have been American gays heading north for a marriage license they’re denied in their own country. So gay marriage will provide an important legal recognition for an extremely small number of persons who do not currently enjoy it. But, putting aside arguments over the nature of marital union, the legalization of gay marriage will empower a lot more “vigilance” from all the right-thinking people over everybody else.

Mr Mutchnick’s comparison of the word “homosexual” with “Negro” gives the game away: just as everything any conservative says about anything is racist, so now it will also be homophobic. It will not be enough to be clinically neutral (“homosexual”) on the subject — or tolerant, bored, mildly amused, utterly indifferent. The other day, Jeremy Irons found himself musing to a reporter on whether (if the issue is unequal legal treatment) a father should be allowed to marry his son for the purpose of avoiding inheritance taxes. The vigilance vigilantes swung into action:

“Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons has sparked outrage,” reported The Independent in London, “by suggesting that same-sex marriage could lead to incest between fathers and sons.”

Outrageous! That isn’t exactly what he said, but, once sparked, the outrage inferno was soon blazing merrily:

“Jeremy Irons’ Strange Anti-Gay rant,” read the headline in Salon.

I wouldn’t say he was ranting. He was languidly drawling, as is his snooty Brit wont, and fighting vainly the old ennui, as if he would rather be doing anything than another tedious media interview. Indeed, he even took the precaution of averring that he didn’t “have a strong feeling either way.”

You sick bigot theocrat hater! Not having a strong feeling is no longer permitted. The Diversity Celebrators have their exquisitely sensitive antennae attuned for anything less than enthusiastic approval. Very quickly, traditional religious teaching on homosexuality will be penned up within church sanctuaries, and “faith-based” ancillary institutions will be crowbarred into submission. What’s that? I’m “scaremongering”? Well, it’s now routine in Canada, where Catholic schools in Ontario are obligated by law to set up Gay-Straight Alliance groups, where a Knights of Columbus hall in British Columbia was forced to pay compensation for declining a lesbian wedding reception, and where the Reverend Stephen Boisson wrote to his local paper objecting to various aspects of “the homosexual agenda” and was given a lifetime speech ban by the Alberta “Human Rights” Tribunal ordering him never to utter anything “disparaging” about homosexuals ever again, even in private. Although his conviction was eventually overturned by the Court of Queen’s Bench after a mere seven-and-a-half years of costly legal battle, no Canadian newspaper would ever publish such a letter today. The words of Chief Justice Burger would now attract a hate-crime prosecution in Canada, as the Supreme Court in Ottawa confirmed only last month.

Of course, if you belong to certain approved identity groups, none of this will make any difference. The Reverend Al Sharpton, who famously observed that Africans of the ancient world had made more contributions to philosophy and mathematics than all “them Greek homos”, need not zip his lips — any more than Dr Bilal Philips, the Toronto Islamic scholar who argues that homosexuals should be put to death, need fear the attention of Canada’s “human rights” commissions. But for the generality of the population this will be one more subject around which one has to tiptoe on ever thinner eggshells.

I can see why gays might dislike Scalia’s tone, or be hurt by Irons’ “lack of strong feelings”. But the alternative — that there is only one approved tone, that one must fake strong feelings — is creepy and totalitarian and deeply threatening to any healthy society. Irons is learning, as Carrie Prejean learned a while back, that “liberals” aren’t interested in your opinion, or even your sincere support, but only that you understand that there’s one single, acceptable answer. We don’t teach kids to memorize historic dates or great poetry any more, but we do insist they memorize correct attitudes and regurgitate them correctly when required to do so in public.

Speaking of actors from across the pond, I had the good fortune of meeting at the end of his life Hilton Edwards, the founder of Ireland’s Gate Theatre. Hilton and the love of his life Michael MacLiammóir were for many years the most famously gay couple in Dublin. At MacLiammóir’s funeral in 1978, the Taoiseach and half the Irish cabinet attended, and at the end they went up to Edwards, shook hands and expressed their condolences — in other words, publicly acknowledging him as “the widow”. This in a state where homosexuality was illegal, and where few people suggested that it should be otherwise. The Irish officials at the funeral treated MacLiammóir’s relict humanely and decently, not because they had to but because they wished to. I miss that kind of civilized tolerance of the other, and I wish, a mere four decades on, the victors in the culture wars might consider extending it to the losers.

Instead, the relentless propagandizing grows ever more heavy-handed: The tolerance enforcers will not tolerate dissent; the diversity celebrators demand a ruthless homogeneity. Much of the progressive agenda — on marriage, immigration, and much else — involves not winning the argument but ruling any debate out of bounds. Perhaps like Jeremy Irons you don’t have “strong feelings” on this or that, but, if you do, enjoy them while you can.

Win by Default. If you can’t think incorrect thoughts…

“The purpose of Newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the world-view and mental habits proper to the devotees of IngSoc, but to make all other modes of thought impossible. Its vocabulary was so constructed as to give exact and often very subtle expression to every meaning that a Party member could properly wish to express, while excluding all other meaning and also the possibility of arriving at them by indirect methods. This was done partly by the invention of new words, but chiefly by eliminating undesirable words and stripping such words as remained of unorthodox meanings, and so far as possible of all secondary meaning whatever”.-Orwell

Just Silly

Controversial nude body scanners used at U.S. airports have come under fire again – after a blogger claimed he could easily smuggle explosives through them onto a plane.

Engineer Jonathan Corbett has published a video where he shows how he took a small metal case through two of the TSA’s $1 billion fleet in a special side pocket stitched into his shirt.

This is because, he suggests, the scanners blend metallic areas into the dark background – so if an object is not directly placed on the body, it will not show up on the scan.

The metallic box, he claims, would have set off an alarm had he passed through the old detecting system.

His revelation comes just weeks after Europe banned the ‘airport strip-searches’ over fears the X-ray technology could cause cancer.

So next time you’re at the Airport, you’ll have the confidence to know that the TSA has your back…. 🙂

POLITICALLY CORRECT THOUGHT POLICE UPDATE

2 years ago there was a firestorm about wearing a US flag shirt on Cinco De Mayo (hint: it’s “racist”) so now we have a new “racially insensitive” chant:

“USA! USA! USA!”

Yes, I said “USA!” is a racist chant when the other team is predominately Hispanic and you’re not and you win. OMG!!!!! The HORROR!!

SAN ANTONIO – A local school district is apologizing after an apparent incident of racism at a boys high school basketball game this past weekend.

When the final whistle blew Saturday, Alamo Heights celebrated a convincing victory over San Antonio Edison.

Alamo Heights Head Coach Andrew Brewer said he was proud of his team.

“Tremendously proud,” Brewer said. “Tremendously. It’s the best group of kids.”

But it was just after the trophy presentation when the coach was not proud of the chant coming from Alamo Heights fans.

“USA, USA, USA,” they chanted.

San Antonio Independent School District officials took the chant as a racial insult to a school with all minority players from a school with mostly white ones.

Statement by School:

If this chant was commonplace – chanted at their games with other schools — it would not be a problem.  It was targeted at a school that is predominantly Hispanic.  We appreciate that the Alamo Heights High School basketball coach reacted very quickly to stop the students from chanting.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have had this experience.  A similar incident occurred last year with one of our schools and another school district where they chanted “USA USA” and “Arizona Arizona,” around the time that there was heated discussion about the immigration law in that state.
Edison’s team is predominantly Hispanic, said Leslie Price, a spokesperson for the San Antonio ISD.

“The implication as they are not American citizens,” Price told Fox News. “We understand competitiveness and rivalry, but you need to choose your words and think about the meaning behind them.”

Price said she believes the “USA, USA” chant was racially motivated.

“It was chanted selectively at a school that is predominantly Hispanic and there was understanding of that,” she said.

Price said the school district was bombarded with a number of people who found the “USA, USA” chant to be “very disrespectful.”

“That might be chanted at international soccer games,” she said. “But this is not a chant that these students chant at all of their basketball games. It was selective.”
So in honor of the Thought Police in San Antonio…

USA! USA! USA!

<<<knocking>>

Oooh!, I think that’s them at the door… 🙂

Mission Possible: Deception

Political Cartoons by Gary Varvel

Gretchen Carlson, FOX News: Unemployment has gone up precipitously since he took office.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DNC Chair: That is simply not true. In fact, unemployment has now dropped below 9%. It’s continuing to drop. He’s been focused on —

Carlson: It’s higher than when they promised the stimulus would lower it to 8%.

Wasserman Schultz: You see, that narrative doesn’t work for you anymore, though, because —

Carlson: It’s not my narrative. I’m just talking about facts.

Wasserman Schultz: You just said the unemployment rate is going up since Obama took office, and it hasn’t.

Carlson: Is unemployment higher since President Obama took office?

Wasserman Schultz: What’s happened since President Obama took office —

Carlson: Is unemployment higher than when he took office?

Wasserman Schultz: Unemployment is nearing right around where it was when President Obama took office and it’s dropping. You just said it’s been increasing and that’s not true.

New narrative and Talking Points from the Orwellian Ministry of Truth Minister. 🙂

Deny reality. Repeatedly. And by the way, we are at war with Oceania and always have been… (1984 reference).

Now, it’s Harry Reid’s turn: Reid: “Millionaire Job Creators Are Like Unicorns” … They “Don’t Exist

Reid: “The Republicans say the richest of the rich in our country, even those who make millions every year, shouldn’t contribute more to get our economy back on track. They call our plan, time after time, a tax on job creators, and I say so-called “job creators.” Because I say that, Mr. President, every shred of evidence contradicts this red herring. For example, there have been many outlets, but I’ll concentrate on one. National Public Radio went looking for one of these fictitious millionaire job creators. A reporter reached out to the business groups and a tax lobby in the Republican Congress hoping to interview one of these millionaires. Days ticked by with no luck. Many of our job creators are like unicorns, they’re impossible to find and don’t exist. That’s because only a tiny fraction of people making more than a million dollars, probably less than one percent, are actually small business owners and only a tiny fraction of that tiny fraction is a traditional job creator.”

Yeah, they might be Bill Gates (Microsoft), or the Late Steve Jobs (Apple). Or even JEFFREY IMHELT (Job Creation Czar) – Jeffrey Immelt’s net worth is $60 million dollars and annual salary of $22 million.

And, of course they don’t employ anyone. 🙂

The Orwellian smoke being blown up your ass is that that the millionaire aren’t “small business” people.

So, since millionaires aren’t “small business” job creators (they are BIG business job creators) it’s ok to tax the hell out of them!!!

Oh, and by the way the “millionaires” tax goes all the way down to $250,000 a year WHICH CAN BE A “SMALL BUSINESS” Job Creator. But we won’t talk about that because it interferes with our class warfare narrative.

So it’s all word games and misdirection and manipulation, as usual.

It’s meant to confuse you.

And you think, dear reader, you’re safe…

What began as an attempt to restrain foreign piracy on the Internet has morphed into a domestic “kill switch” on First Amendment freedom in the fastest-growing corner of the marketplace of ideas.

Proposed federal legislation purporting to protect online intellectual property would also impose sweeping new government mandates on internet service providers – a positively Orwellian power grab that would permit the U.S. Justice Department to shut down any internet site it doesn’t like (and cut off its sources of income) on nothing more than a whim.

Under the so-called “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) the federal government – which is prohibited constitutionally from abridging free speech or depriving its citizens of their property without due process – would engage in both practices on an unprecedented scale. And in establishing the precursor to a taxpayer-funded “thought police,” it would dramatically curtail technology investment and innovation – wreaking havoc on our economy.

Consider this: Under the proposed legislation all that’s required for government to shutdown a specific website is the mere accusation that the site unlawfully featured copyrighted content.  Such an accusation need not be proven – or even accompanied by probable cause. All that an accuser (or competitor) needs to do in order to obtain injunctive relief is point the finger at a website.

Additionally, SOPA would grant regulators the ability to choke off revenue to the owners of these newly classified “rogue” websites by accusing their online advertisers and payment providers as co-conspirators in the alleged “piracy.” Again, no finding of fact would be required – the mere allegation of impropriety is all that’s needed to cut the website’s purse strings.

Who’s vulnerable to this legislation?

“Any website that features user-generated content or that enables cloud-based data storage could end up in its crosshairs,” writes David Sohn, senior policy council at the Center on Democracy and Technology. “(Internet Service Providers) would face new and open-ended obligations to monitor and police user behavior. Payment processors and ad networks would be required to cut off business with any website that rights-holders allege hasn’t done enough to police infringement.” (The Hill)

But if Congress does pass these laws, it will be a testament to the enormous power and influence of two Democratic special interest groups—the Hollywood lobby, comprised of the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America, and the trial lawyers.

If you’re wondering why lawyers and Hollywood folks would get behind legislation to censor the Internet, you only need to listen to former Senator Chris Dodd (of Dodd-Frank fame), now the head of the MPAA, who last week explained to Variety that the lobby is only asking for the same kind of power to censor the Internet as the government has in the People’s Republic of China:

“When the Chinese told Google that they had to block sites or they couldn’t do [business] in their country, they managed to figure out how to block sites.”

And one thing Liberal really want to to do is make sure there’s no one to contradict their Big Brother vision of controlling everyone and everything.

But Dodd calls such alarms “exaggerated hyperbole.”

Just like unemployment that has been above 8% since February 2009 means the rate has dropped to 8.6% (which was a politically motivated number that didn’t count the massive number of people who just gave up!)

Remember that the unemployment rate is not “how many people don’t have jobs?”, but “how many people don’t have jobs and are actively looking for them”

Since 2007, the percent of the population that either has a job or is actively looking for one has fallen from 62.7 percent to 58.5 percent. That’s millions of workers leaving the workforce, and it’s not because they’ve become sick or old or infirm. It’s because they can’t find a job, and so they’ve stopped trying. (WP)

So the more people who give up entirely, the better the Unemployment rate looks.

Now that’s government in action! 🙂

And the Debt hasn’t gone up under Obama, that was the fault of George W. Bush, and they just haven’t had enough time to fix it yet. It’s been tougher than they thought (yeah spending $5 Trillion dollar in less than 3 years will do that).

These are all Democrat/Liberal Talking Points. they are all mean to deceive.

And deception is the only game in town these days.

What Democracy Doesn’t Look Like

Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez

At an Occupy Atlanta event Friday night, the cult-like group of demonstrators refused to allow U.S. Congressman and Civil Rights Icon John Lewis to speak to the crowd.

While Rep. Lewis told CBS Atlanta he was not angry over the group’s decision and still supports them, some who came to attend the Occupy Atlanta event are now disassociating themselves from the splintered movement.

“I am angry because this is not what democracy is all about,” said Michelle Williams to CBS Atlanta. Williams had came to support the movement but left in disgust after seeing the treatment of Rep. Lewis.

“This is Marxist more Stalin like. Your movement, you’re just riff-raff. You’re an organized mob.”

This is what Liberal “democracy” looks like. 🙂

An Iranian military leader says the protests spreading from New York’s Wall Street to other U.S. cities are the beginning of an “American Spring,” likening them to the uprisings that toppled Arab autocrats in the Middle East.

And the approval from the Iranian Military means a lot…

I wouldn’t think it would be worthwhile to draw attention to the Occupy Wall Street “movement,” or its list of demands that wouldn’t pass muster in an average kindergarten class.

But if America’s president and vice president choose to talk about it, and give it credibility, then it’s news.

According to VP Joe Biden, demands such as free college, pay independent of work, a $20 minimum wage (why not $100 or $1000?), and a nation with open borders have legitimacy and “a lot in common with the tea party movement.”

President Obama sees these demonstrations against corporate America as reasonable protest toward “the same folks who acted irresponsibly trying to crack down on abusive practices that got us into this situation to begin with.”

This should provide perspective to what our most fundamental problem is today.

We have an endangered species in America whose loss threatens our future. That species is called the American adult.

Can someone please explain to our vice president the difference between a screaming infant not getting what he wants, when he wants it and an adult who understands personal responsibility, humility, work and service to others?

A functioning free society requires citizens who are adults capable of overseeing and administering a government which enforce laws that protect life and property.

Once government simply becomes a playpen for those who believe they run the universe and make its basic laws, and that the rest of us must submit to their hallucinations about what is just, we wind up where we are today.

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that, according to the latest census data, 48.5 percent of American families now are on the receiving end of some sort of government program, the highest percentage in our history.

To provide some perspective, this figure was 10 percent in the 1920’s and a little over 30 percent in 1980.

During the 1960’s, a watershed decade when the infantile culture of narcissism began to subsume free adult culture in America, more government programs were born than in any other period. By 1980, four of these programs of the 1960’s – food stamps, Pell grants, Medicare, and Medicaid – accounted for 164 billion dollars in annual spending. Today these four programs swallow almost an additional trillion dollars.

No, Mr. Biden. Occupy Wall Street has nothing in common with the Tea Party Movement.

The Tea Party Movement is protest against abuse of political power and the increasing marginalization and disrespect for truths, such a protection of life, liberty, and property, that define American freedom.

Occupy Wall Street is about lust for political power, about defining what others should have, and redistributing and spending what belongs to some else. (Star Parker)

Herman Cain:“Part of it is jealousy,” said Mr Cain on CBS television. “I stand by that, and here’s why I don’t have a lot of patience with that: my parents, they never played the victim card.

“My parents never said, ‘We hope that the rich people lose something so we can get something’. No, my dad’s idea was, ‘I want to work hard enough so I can buy a Cadillac – not take somebody else’s’. “

You May be a Criminal before you’re a Criminal

The Department of Homeland Security is building a “prototype screening facility” that it hopes will use factors such as ethnicity, gender, breathing, and heart rate to “detect cues indicative of mal-intent.”

DHS calls its “pre-crime” system Future Attribute Screening Technology <http://epic.org/privacy/fastproject/>, or FAST.

FAST is designed to track and monitor, among other inputs, body movements, voice pitch changes, prosody <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosody_%28linguistics%29> changes (alterations in the rhythm and intonation of speech), eye movements, body heat changes, and breathing patterns. Occupation and age are also considered. A government source told CNET that blink rate and pupil variation are measured too.

A field test of FAST has been conducted in at least one undisclosed location in the northeast.

Although DHS has publicly suggested that FAST could be used at airport checkpoints–the Transportation Security Administration is part of the department, after all–the government appears to have grander ambitions. One internal DHS document (PDF <http://epic.org/privacy/fastinstallation.pdf>) also obtained by EPIC through the Freedom of Information Act says a mobile version of FAST “could be used at security checkpoints such as border crossings or at large public events such as sporting events or conventions.”

Or a Criminal even when you’re not in the Country.

The House Judiciary Committee passed a bill yesterday that would make it a federal crime for U.S. residents to discuss or plan activities on foreign soil that, if carried out in the U.S., would violate the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) — even if the planned activities are legal in the countries where they’re carried out. H.R. 313, the “Drug Trafficking Safe Harbor Elimination Act of 2011,” is sponsored by Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), and allows prosecutors to bring conspiracy charges against anyone who discusses, plans or advises someone else to engage in any activity that violates the CSA,

The law could also potentially affect academics and medical professionals. For example, a U.S. doctor who works with overseas doctors or government officials on needle exchange programs could be subject to criminal prosecution. A U.S. resident who advises someone in another country on how to grow marijuana or how to run a medical marijuana dispensary would also be in violation of the new law, even if medical marijuana is legal in the country where the recipient of the advice resides.

The Thought Police are watching.

Fundraising by Shame

The Obama campaign is testing a new approach to fundraising, blasting out emails that ever-so-gently shame supporters into donating.

An email sent to a New York recipient read as follows: “Here’s something you don’t have in common with 15,049 other supporters of this movement who tell us they live in New York, NY.”

Despite his rhetorical attacks on Wall Street, a study by the Sunlight Foundation’s Influence Project shows that President Barack Obama has received more money from Wall Street than any other politician over the past 20 years, including former President George W. Bush.

In 2008, Wall Street’s largesse accounted for 20 percent of Obama’s total take, according to Reuters.

When asked by The Daily Caller to comment about President Obama’s credibility when it comes to criticizing Wall Street, the White House declined to reply.

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer says the distance between the president’s rhetoric and actions makes him look hypocritical.

“It’s almost as if President Obama won’t cross across a Wall Street picket line except to get inside with [his] hand out, so he can raise money,” Fleischer told TheDC, referring to the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators who the president has been encouraging over the past week. “That sort of support causes him to look hypocritical.”

Fleischer continued by saying that President Obama and Democrats, such as New York Sen. Charles Schumer, who has received approximately $8.7 million from Wall Street since 1989, should stop taking campaign donations from Wall Street banks if they are so offended by their actions.

“They can’t say we hate Wall Street, but we love their money,” Fleischer said.

An examination of the numbers shows that Obama took in $421,242 in campaign contributions in 2008 from Bank of America’s executives, PACs and employees, which exceeded its prior record contribution of $329,761 to President George W. Bush in 2004.

“The securities and investment industry is Obama’s second largest source of bundlers, after lawyers, at least 56 individuals have raised at least $8.9 million for his campaign,” Massie Ritsch wrote in a Sept. 18, 2008 entry on the Center for Responsive Politics’s OpenSecrets blog.

By the end of Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, executives and others connected with Wall Street firms, such as Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup, UBS AG, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley, poured nearly $15.8 million into his coffers. (DC)

The Food Police
Last month, Big Apple Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke at a United Nations meeting on non-communicable diseases. And a large focus of his speech was — you guessed it — encouraging governments around the world to enact strict, NYC-style regulations on food. “Government’s highest duty,” Bloomberg said, is to make healthy foods the “default” option.

On October 1, Denmark instituted a tax on foods containing saturated fat — the first of its kind. This is on top of a tax the Nordic country slapped last year on “junk” food, like ice cream and chocolate. The left-wing coalition that runs Denmark has even talked about doubling the tax.

And in the long term, there are a number of foods containing saturated fat that are associated with better health. One is dark chocolate (linked to heart health); a second is eggs (a good source of nutrients, according to Harvard); a third is Atlantic salmon (omega-3s are linked to heart and cognitive health). Taxing these foods could drive down these health benefits.

More to the point, nutrient taxes fail to consider overall good nutrition. According to the American Dietetic Association, there are no “good” or “bad” foods. Just good or bad lifestyles.

Further, it’s ludicrous for the government to set dietary policy with the tax code when our understanding of diet and nutrition is always changing.

Not too long ago butter was “bad” and margarine was “good” because trans fat was better than saturated fat. Then margarine became marginalized because it contains trans fat. People fretted about cholesterol in eggs; now eggs are considered a great health food. And remember the government’s low-fat campaign to improve our diets? Obesity rates ballooned after that. It seems that some people see the “lower fat” as permission to eat more. (DC)

But the main thing, for liberals, is government is in control of you. That’s all that really matters. Common sense and reasonable moderation are completely foreign to them because you can’t be trusted!

Nevertheless, the food police take an overly simplistic shoot-first, ask-scientific-questions-later approach. And lest you think these bone-headed policies will stay in the Old World, Bloomberg and his figurative comrades-in-arms are working to spread them across the globe. The challenges of getting people to eat healthy, Bloomberg told the UN, are “too vast and complex for individual governments to overcome alone.”

Imagine you’re sitting in your office wondering what you’ll grab for lunch. If you’re in a city, there are literally dozens of places you could go. How do the food police expect, in a free market, to make the “default” choice the healthy one?

Will they shut down pretzel carts? Will every restaurant have to offer one salad cheaper than everything else on the menu? Or perhaps there will be a “calorie tax” on all food, so the more you eat, the more you pay Uncle Sam. That’s along with a tax based on the food’s saturated fat, sugar, and sodium content.

Of course, some people can eat more than others based on their body size, so diners will have to be weighed to make sure their tax is proportional. (Take a number, and step up to the scale.)

Starting to get the picture?

The last thing we need is even more bureaucracy such as the UN and the World Health Organization assuming they have the moral authority to manage what we eat. When these international organizations get involved in “non-communicable” diseases, what it really means is that unelected, unaccountable activists in Switzerland will be attacking choices across the world.

The fabulously beautiful planet Bethselamin is now so worried about the cumulative erosion by ten billion visiting tourists a year that any net imbalance between the amount you eat and the amount you excrete while on the planet is surgically removed from you body weight when you leave: so every time you go to the lavatory there it is vitally important to get a receipt.  (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).
So be very careful, you may be a pre-criminal for thinking about going about to Wendy’s for a burger or talking about pot in Denmark (where you’ll be taxed for that fat anyhow!).
And that’s what freedom looks like. 🙂

I Aim to Misbehave

Mark Steyn: “In this case the government of the United States is the gunrunner,” Steyn said. “That is basically what is happening here. There would be no guns running to these Mexican cartels if the United States government hadn’t instituted a program to facilitate it.”

Steyn noted the lack of media outrage compared with other scandals in the past.

“Now real Mexicans are dead,” he continued. “Does the president of the United States, does his attorney general, does CNN, does The New York Times, does NPR — do they not care about dead Mexicans?

“I mean, forget the United States Border Patrol guys that were killed about these ‘Fast & Furious’ guns. Real-live, or previously live, citizens of third world countries — the kind of people that NPR, The New York Times claim to love — are dead because of this.”

“Why isn’t that a national scandal?” he pleaded. “This is absolutely a — Iran-Contra didn’t rack of that kind of body count. Watergate didn’t rack up that kind of body count. Sarah Palin’s daughter’s boyfriend’s mother, or whatever stupid story they were chasing around Wasilla for months, that didn’t rack up a body count. There were hundreds of dead Mexicans from a gun running program run by the United States.”

Precisely because it was done by Liberals. As I have said before, Liberals can do anything they want, it’s you who oppose them that have to live with moral grounds.

Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals: Rule 4:  Make opponents live up to their own book of rules.

But you don’t have to. And thus you handicap your opponent with morals and ethics when you don’t have any. Simple.

And then you have the media on your side willing to do your bidding. And judges who will rule for your ideology rather than the law.

What could be better. 🙂

PASS THE BILL

Here’s the real silliness of all this. The Obama plan would permanently raise tax rates in order to pay for a temporary tax cut.

Kinda like Obamacare’s 10 years of taxes for 6 years of service so as to pay “balance” games.

In other words, taxes are going up, not down, as far as the eye can see under Obama’s program.

And here’s more silliness. The White House and Senate Democrats want a 5.6 percent surtax on millionaires, which is supposed to pay for the entire stimulus package. And don’t forget: The Obama budget would raise the Bush tax rates for people making over $200,000, while the Obamacare budget would substantially increase payroll taxes that apply to investors. On top of that, the Obama budget would lower the value of numerous personal deductions.

So the top personal tax rate would move to nearly 50 percent under the Obama plan. Now do the incentive math. At a 50 percent tax rate, successful earners, investors, and small-business owners would keep only 50 cents on the extra dollar earned. Under current law, however, at the 35 percent top income-tax rate, they would keep 65 cents. So if the plan goes through, it would mean a 23 percent reduction in marginal incentives. This in a stalled economy where job creation doesn’t keep up with a rising population and is less than half the necessary level to shrink the unemployment rate.

Of course, the individuals and families who would suffer the greatest tax-penalty increases are the ones who are most likely to invest and run small businesses. In fact, Treasury data show that over 80 percent of millionaire tax filers reflect small-business income. Why demonize them? This is what Gov. Chris Christie meant when he said President Obama is sending a “demoralizing” message.

This tax attack is the latest assault from a White House that is making a sharp populist shift to the left. It coincides with a president who trashed Bank of America for raising debit-card fees in response to a Dodd-Frank price-control edict, and who suggests that banks do not have an inherent right to profit. It’s in league with a president who is throwing in with the Wall Street protesters. And it’s a sorry sign that the White House doesn’t understand that anti-capitalist nostrums will not solve our economic problems.

How about unleashing a wave of free-market capitalism, which has proven to be the best path to prosperity?

Unfortunately, Team Obama will have none of it. (Larry Kudlow)

Instead, we have communist anarchists “occupying” the news so no one has to talk about this but we can hear the incessant and incestuous drum beat of “corporate greed” and “evil millionaires” and “greedy capitalists”.

Vote for Team Obama, because they will fight “Corporate Greed”! 😦

<<barf bag on standby>>

September 12, 2011 — University of Wisconsin @ Stout

Oh, Mal. This is classic: tough, macho, but also Mal’s way of saying that he is a man who plays fair. It’s also funny, in context, because the character probably didn’t really mean it. In my perfect world, the UW-Stout campus would have been so overwhelmed with the memory of the super-awesomeness of Firefly that the administration would have canceled classes so every student could study the DVD box set.

But that’s not exactly how it worked.

Like overzealous Alliance officers, UW-Stout administration officials just could not let Mal be free. Instead, they called the cops on Professor Miller to tear down the poster. Miller was contacted by Lisa Walter, the chief of police/director of parking services, and informed that “it is unacceptable to have postings such as this that refer to killing.” She also warned the astounded professor that any future such posts would be removed and would cause him to be charged with disorderly conduct.

You don’t have to be a First Amendment lawyer to know that posting Mal’s quote or even that super-scary death-oriented quote from The Princess Bride is a far cry from any legal definition of disorderly conduct. And Miller, like a true browncoat, did not take this lying down. On September 16th he posted this:

2011-09-25-testfascism.JPG

Censor that, Alliance stooges!

Of course, that’s exactly what UW-Stout did. In a feat of intentional misunderstanding of the kind that is unfortunately all too common on campus, the university reinterpreted Professor Miller’s protest as being essentially pro-fascist and advocating violence. The police tore down this poster, too, with Chief Walter claiming this time that the problem was that the poster “depicts violence and mentions violence or death.” She went on to say that “it is believed that this posting also has a reasonable expectation that it will cause a material and/or substantial disruption of school activities and/or be constituted as a threat.” Seriously.

I am frequently impressed by the level of creativity people show in justifying their desire to quell criticism of themselves. This one deserves some kind of Rationalization of the Year award. Essentially, what Walter is saying is this: “I’ve chosen to understand your poster implying that my actions were reminiscent of evil governments that in the past have killed people to mean that you have announced your plan to kill people, as that interpretation works out well for me.”

These days, people are quick to uncritically evaluate any claim that someone else might be a threat for some reason and give leeway to the authorities accordingly.

No one was threatened by the Firefly poster, and no reasonable person would understand the second poster to be anything other than a rebuke of Walter’s heavy-handed action in the first place. The university overreacted to a poster and then decided to double down rather than admit error when the professor decided to make fun of that overreaction.

Professor Miller has twice been censored in a way that the Constitution would never allow, he has been threatened with punishment, and he’s being investigated by the university’s threat assessment team. My organization, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), has written to protest, but so far UW-Stout has refused to back down. Miller faces a meeting on Friday with the dean to discuss the threat assessment team’s “concerns.”

As Patrick Henry once more or less said: “Give Mal liberty or give me death!” Which would have, of course, made him guilty of disorderly conduct at UW-Stout.

Sept 27th: This was not an act of censorship.  This was an act of sensitivity to and care for our shared community, and was intended to maintain a campus climate in which everyone can feel welcome, safe and secure.

September 28, 2011: The chancellor of University of Wisconsin-Stout (UWS) has declared that he will not defend faculty First Amendment rights from censorship.

Oct. 4, 2011—Under pressure from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), national media, and actors Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin, the University of Wisconsin-Stout (Stout) has reversed its censorship of theater professor James Miller’s poster featuring a line from Fillion’s character in Joss Whedon’s television series Firefly. Campus police had threatened Miller with criminal disorderly conduct charges, and he was reported to the “threat assessment team.” After Stout censored his second poster, which stated, “Warning: Fascism,” Miller came to FIRE for help.

To understand the importance of this as a First Amendment issue, one needs to closely examine what happened.  A university’s Chief of Police/Parking Enforcement Officer, ignorant of the context of the quote, took it upon herself to remove not one but two posters without ever asking their context or purpose.  The professor honestly expected his First Amendment rights would not be infringed, but the school’s Chancellor cowered behind bureaucratic zero tolerance policies and did just that.

Whether or not you agree with how the professor responded, the police chief clearly overreacted to something she misinterpreted.  You can read the full exchange of those emails at FIRE.  Nothing about the poster of a fictional TV Space Captain is intended to “cause others to fear for their safety”; in fact, it is the opposite of a threat.

Dr. Miller sent the administration the relevant clip from Firefly’s pilot episode Serenity.  The context of the quote is an homage to fair play and a code of honor that obviously prefers non-violence.

Adam Baldwin (“Jayne”): This is precisely the issue with freedom of speech; words are subjective and can be interpreted differently by separate individuals.  Sometimes this is done unintentionally, sometimes with malice, which is why the act of deciding what’s NOT free speech is ripe for abuse.  The UWS administration’s stated desire to “promote a campus environment that is free from threats of any kind—both direct and implied” may be well-meaning, but its meaning amounts to nothing.  How does one set a universal standard to determine what is an implied threat or in what context speech may “refer to violence and/or harm”?  As Dr. Miller pointed out in his email response to police chief Lisa Walter, would this also apply to “a poster from Hamlet? Or a news clipping about Hockey players that commit violent murder?”

When asked if he knew of any other examples of such posters or signs on campus, Dr. Miller replied that while he wasn’t aware of any prior attempts at censorship, a “Kill Bill” poster from the popular Quentin Tarantino film was prevalent on campus earlier in the year.  Some quick research finds the poster was actually a parody of the Kill Bill movie, as part of a campus-wide protest held in February against Governor Scott Walker’s budget bill.

Oddly enough, police chief Walter was not at all concerned with the reference to killing or to the weapon of violence depicted in those posters.  In fact, she was quoted in this article at the time as being rather complimentary of the activities.

“The neat part of working in a university is that folks get to have their voices heard, and we try to make sure that it’s done in a manner that’s orderly and doesn’t disrupt the rest of the operations too much,” she said.

Walter also pointed out that the university’s union officers are not included in the exemption Walker provided to other law enforcement officers, firefighters and the State Patrol.

“He did not exempt UW police, Capitol police and, I believe, DNR wardens,” she said. “They will lose their ability to negotiate and have a union negotiate other work-related — other than salary. If the bill goes through, they will be without a contract — and without a union — on March 15.”

Is this because the police chief was not only overseeing security at the protest but also voicing her vested political interest in the highly controversial issue at hand? It seems clear that she was immersed in the context of that poster.

Words are subjective, indeed.

American Universities and colleges today are now, by design, overwhelmingly leftist in their belief systems and political activities.  Students and faculty alike frequently glorify monstrous leftists like Mao Tse-tung and Che Guevara.  To some, they are socialist revolutionary heroes, while to others their image alone is testimony of mass murder and oppression.

When Ward Churchill was fired from his job as Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2007 for engaging in research misconduct, scholars insisted that Churchill was singled out for his political views, most notably his statements about 9/11 in which he “referred to the ‘technocrats’ working at the World Trade Center as ‘little Eichmanns.‘” There continues to be an outpouring of support for Churchill from the academic community, many of whom have stressed that Academic Freedom must be staunchly defended.

Whither tolerance and intellectual diversity?

The University of Wisconsin-Madison was recently ordered by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to pay nearly $500,000 in legal costs to a student group that claimed its First Amendment rights were violated when the student government rejected a portion of its funds because they were earmarked for religious worship. Badger Catholic, a student Catholic group that conducts various religious and spiritual activities on and off campus, sued the university, which claimed that funding some of the group’s activities would “amount to an illegal endorsement of religion.” The Appeals Court disagreed with the University and the Supreme Court recently declined to hear the case. It’s been hailed as a victory for freedom of speech and religious expression on college campuses.  $500K was lost because, rather than protecting the fundamental rights of its students, the school chose to discriminate against their activities purely because of the group’s religious beliefs.

While the flap over the Firefly poster may seem trivial, it is anything but.  This incident and UWS’s ego-driven, bureaucratic response provides a teachable moment.  It should make us pause and think about how easily our freedoms can erode, in the arbitrary name of protecting others’ feelings.

It’s one thing to ensure that students and faculty are physically safe, but when we surrender to the Wordsmiths what may or may not offend someone or make them uncomfortable, we are helping to pave our own Road to Hell.

“Sure as I know anything, I know this – they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They’ll swing back to the belief that they can make people… better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin’. I aim to misbehave.” – Mal Reynolds, Captain: Space Boat Serenity

The irony of a situation in which the character of Malcolm Reynolds–a man who risked life, limb, and loved ones to fight censorship in the movie Serenity–is at the center of a fight over whether or not something is censorship is not lost on this Firefly fan.

Just remember the Liberal Motto: Don’t do as I do, Do as I say. 🙂

The Liberal Score

Well, The Thought Police Left have scored AOL.

But first, best quote in a long time: Former Senator Alan Simpson:

Alan Simpson, the former Wyoming member of Congress who served as co-chair of Mr. Obama’s debt commission, mocked politicians who are unwilling confront the nation’s debt by making deep cuts to entitlement programs. “If you have a career politician get up and say, ‘I know we can get this done; we’re going to get rid of all earmarks, all waste, fraud, and abuse, all foreign aid, Air Force One, all congressional pensions,’ that’s a sparrow’s belch in the midst of a typhoon,” he said. “I’m waiting for the politician to get up and say, there’s only one way to do this, you dig into the big four, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and defense. And anybody giving you anything different than that, you want to walk out the door, stick your finger down your throat and give them the green weenie.(NYT)

BRAVO!!

ENCORE!

ENCORE!

🙂 🙂 🙂

AOL just bought news site Huffington Post for $315 million—$300 million in cash. HuffPo founder Arianna Huffington will become editor of all AOL “content properties.” That sound you just heard was the whole internet going “Whaaaaat?”

So  that means the Huffington-Puffington Post took over AOL. So leftist “journalism” has a new place to take over and proclaim they have saved it.

Not that AOL matters anymore. Another case of good timing by the liberal media.

Just remember 1+1=11 🙂

BIG MOM Should start at home!

The rest of the menu for the 100 or so guests at the White House bash is tailgate-friendly even if served inside the Executive Mansion: bratwurst, kielbasa, cheeseburgers, deep-dish pizza and Buffalo wings with sides of German potato salad, twice-baked potatoes and assorted chips and dips. (Yahoo.com)

Considering Big Mom (Michelle Obama) is in “talks” (aka mafia leg-breaker style) with the Food Industry to crush your ability to eat anything else other than what is good for you and what is approved by her personally she should be fixing her husband first.

But there is no liberal control freak satisfaction in that.

NAACP SILENT ON RACIST RALLY

In response to The Daily Caller’s request for comment on a video showing progressive protesters calling for somebody to “string up” African American Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, or “send him back into the fields” or “cut off all his toes and feed them to him one-by-one,” NAACP spokesman Hilary Shelton pointed to the organization’s recent resolution calling for a “civil political discourse.”

“Last summer, the NAACP passed a resolution calling for a civil political discourse,” Shelton said in an e-mail to TheDC. “We continue to call on all Americans to abandon vitriolic language. It serves as a distraction from the real issues our society need to address and distorts the challenges we as Americans have to confront to make our nation greater still.”

Shelton would not, however, address the content of the video directly.

Now that’s “civility” folks.  After all, they are Uncle Tom’s so they aren’t really black so they don’t need to justify anything.

I wonder if this will be tracked by their “racist” monitor sites they set up during the health care debate to monitor tea party racism.

Oh, right, they don’t monitor THEIR OWN. Just you. Isn’t that special!

I’m sure they were just “misquoted”. 🙂

YOUR GROCERY BAGS ARE EVIL!! So We Must TAX THEM!

Oregon’s state Senate will be conducting a hearing on Tuesday to determine whether the state should be the first in the union to ban non-reusable shopping bags in all retail outlets. The proposed ban would include both paper and plastic bags, with the exception of paper bags containing at least 40 percent recyclable materials. For those bags, shoppers would have to pay 5 cents per sack.

Liberals do understand that “grocery bagger” is  a JOB!  But solving non-problems in the name of Mother Gaia is much more important than that entry-level JOB.

And then they want to tax you for your evil ways. Tax aversion therapy, liberal style.

“People buy less goods when there’s a tax on the bags, and they’ll avoid the tax,” Patrick Gleason (Americans for Tax Reform) said in a phone interview. “They force people to use reusable bags and force people to purchase reusable bags.”

In a recent “bag tax” study, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and the Beacon Hill Institute at Suffolk University found that a year-old tax on “single-use” grocery bags in Washington, D.C., was ineffective and actually eliminated approximately 100 jobs at retailers throughout the nation’s capitol. By extension, they found that all retail workers will make $18 less on average per year, which doesn’t seem like much at first glance, but adds up over time, affecting the local economy measurably over the period of a decade or more.

But it makes the tree-hugging Liberals FEEL GOOD!!!!

And if it makes a Liberal FEEL GOOD it must be morally and politically perfection! 🙂

Wynn said there are two Republicans in Oregon’s state legislature who are supporting this legislation, state Sen. Jason Atkinson and state Rep. Vic Gilliam. Neither returned TheDC’s requests for comment, but Wynn and Jason Williams of the Oregon Taxpayers Association said they think Gilliam and Atkinson are on board with this proposal for the positive press and publicity – without considering the fact that they’re effectively issuing a tax.

A Couple of RINOs are looking at the polls and running for re-election and don’t care what they have to do or say to win.

Gee, Barack will be calling them soon. 🙂

Remind again why anyone who has a brain would be in Oregon? Or should it just be renamed Pandora (after “Avatar”) with man as the oppressors who come into harm Mother Gaia so they should all just leave? 🙂

Sigh….

Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez

The Ditch of Tolerance and Debt

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Free Speech: The speaker of the House wants to know how opponents of the Ground Zero mosque are being funded. When Americans can be investigated for their opinions, our republic has arrived at a dangerous place.

This is how tyrants act, not U.S. lawmakers — especially those two heartbeats from the presidency. Elected and appointed officials in this country have a duty to tolerate dissent, and in some cases even promote it. Our constitutional safeguard of free speech is one of the principles that sets us apart from repressive nations.

Should the speaker get her way, that will be some drawn-out probe. The number of Americans she would charge with being the “opposition” is considerable.

A Sienna Research Institute poll found that 63% of New York state voters are against the Cordoba House. When polling all Americans, CNN found that 68% oppose the mosque, and Time discovered that 61% don’t like the idea. Only 29% told CNN they favor the plan, while 26% in the Time poll said they support it.

No matter how odious an idea or speech may be to those in power, the state doesn’t have the moral standing to punish or re-educate those who express unpopular positions or annoy the authorities.

Anyone who wasn’t chilled by her statement is part of the problem.(IBD)

But the New TIME Magazine Cover: Is America Islamophobic?

Now that’s your “tolerant” Ministry of Truth.  who don’t even read, understand,or just ignore their own Polls!! 🙂

But don’t worry, the Left doesn’t even call it a Mosque anymore, you notice, in large part they just call it a “Community Center” or a “community outreach” center.

So the PC Thought Police have struck again.

And if this whole thing is about tolerance why is the Left and the Mosque supporters the most intolerant of dissent and least willing to listen?? 🙂

Washington (CNN) — Memorial crosses erected along Utah public roads to honor fallen state highway troopers have been found unconstitutional by a federal appeals court.

A three-judge panel of the 10th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that the 14 large crosses would be viewed by most passing motorists as “government’s endorsement of Christianity.”

“We hold that these memorials have the impermissible effect of conveying to the reasonable observer the message that the state prefers or otherwise endorses a certain religion,” concluded the Denver, Colorado-based court. The state of Utah and a private trooper association have the option of appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court.

While placed on public land and with the state’s permission, the crosses themselves are privately owned and maintained. The state expressly noted it “neither approves or disapproves of the memorial marker.”

But that’s Christianity!  That’s Evil! That’s the real objection.

Maybe they should have erected mini-mosques as memorials then the Left would have no problem with them. 🙂

Because, remember, just like “sensitivity”, the Left will tell you how you are supposed to feel and think and anything else is “insensitive”. Same here, “tolerance” is what is defined by the Left not be logic, reason, or consistency.

No one one Left will understand their own hypocrisy. Face that fact.

Congressional Budget Office (CBO), in its mid-year budget update, has projected that the 2010 budget deficit will be the second highest on record since the end of World War II, eclipsed only by the deficit of 2009.

The CBO says that the total 2010 deficit will reach $1.3 trillion, down slightly from 2009’s $1.4 trillion record. All told, CBO projects that the government will run up a total of $6.2 trillion in new deficits between 2011 and 2020.

Making it over $20 Trillion, double what it was in 2007 and 4 times what it was 20 years prior! a 400% rise in a generation!

But don’t worry it’s all George W Bush and The Republicans Fault! 🙂

During his speech, the president likened Republicans to the “folks who drove the car into the ditch.”

“And so we decided, you know what, we’re going to do the responsible thing,” he said. “We put on our boots, we got into the mud, we got into the ditch. We pushed, we shoved, we’re sweating. They’re standing on the sidelines sipping a Slurpee, sort of watching us, saying, ‘Well, you’re not pushing hard enough,’ or ‘Your shoulder is not positioned the right way,’ giving us a whole bunch of advice on how to push — not lifting a finger to help.

“And finally we get this car up back on the road again, and finally we’re ready to move forward again,” Obama said. “And these guys turn around and say, ‘Give us the keys.’ Well, no, you can’t have the keys back — you don’t know how to drive.”–President Obama

So, children, you can’t hand the keys back to those morons. You have to trust me, I know what I’m doing. 🙂

And I’m so much smarter, and so much better than you! 🙂

Yeah, the car is back on the road alright, it has a whole in the gas tank, the fuel system is running rich, the steering wheel veers violently to the Left, the muffler has a hole in it and is dragging on the ground. The windows are broken, the transmission needs an overhaul,  and the tires are bald.

But it runs. And you should have more respect and reverence for your Elite Superiors, you ungrateful louts! 🙂

And it’s all George W Bush’s Fault after all! 🙂

Relative to the size of the economy, the 2010 deficit will reach 9.1 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, according to the CBO’s projection. The deficit in 2009 was 9.9 percent of GDP.

“As was the case last year, this year’s deficit is attributable in large part to a combination of weak revenues and elevated spending, associated with the economic downturn and the policies implemented in response to it,” the CBO explained.

The current economic downturn is expected to last for several more years, the non-partisan office said, predicting that unemployment will not fall to around a healthy 5 percent until at least 2014.

Oh goody, just in time for the Health Care Mandate and the other taxes to start kicking in!!!

Rejoice!! 🙂

After a year and half of “stimulus” and bailouts gone bad, what has the shift towards higher government spending and an encroaching nanny state cost you? This year, it has cost you 231 days out of your life, or 63 percent of 2010.

Every year, the Americans for Tax Reform Foundation and its Center for Fiscal Accountability calculate the day on which the average American has paid off his burden of federal, state and local spending and regulations. This year that day falls on August 19, a full eight days later than last year’s date.

That was yesterday folks! Rejoice! 🙂

Federal spending, always the largest contributor to the Cost of Government Day, cost taxpayers 104 days this year. This is up from 90 days in 2008, when Cost of Government Day fell on July 16. This is to say that the ill-conceived spending policies of the past two years have cost taxpayers over a month of their lives, and show few signs of abating.

President Obama has proposed spending $3.8 trillion in 2011, a 40 percent increase from pre-bailout, pre-“stimulus” levels. (Daily Caller)

And they want to raise taxes in a recession…sorry “Summer of Recovery”.  Hope 2.0…Recovery from what? a Marxist drunken stupor?

Does it kind of remind you of Hollywood rehab, where they go and attend a rehab then come out and do it all over again and go back to rehab and then come and do it again, ad nauseum…?

But don’t worry, if you’re mad about it,remember  it’s all George W. Bush’s Fault you islamophobic, racist, insensitive, ignorant low country moron! 🙂

Listen to your Masters, the Insufferably Superior Left. 🙂

They are just better, smarter, more tolerant, and sensitive than you could ever be.

And that’s just the facts, ma’am. 🙂

Coming Attractions

The TAX that isn’t a “TAX” and don’t you dare call it a Tax!

But it is a Tax.

Another exercise in putting lipstick on a pig and calling it an Extreme Porcine Makeover.

Two immovable facts face Democrats on President Obama’s fiscal commission: They don’t see any way to alleviate the country’s debt without raising taxes, and they know most voters hate the thought of any tax increase.

Leading Democrats on the commission tried during the first week of meetings to finesse their way toward a discussion of what they consider inevitable — by arguing that any tax hikes would be “pro-growth.”

So paying MORE TAXES are your patriotic duty and they will be good for you! 🙂

“If we can put forward some practical proposals that control the rate of spending in the future and that raise revenues in a pro-growth way, I think we’ll get a hearing in the Congress,” said Alice Rivlin, a former White House budget director for President Jimmy Carter, who is one of 18 commission members.

Jimmy Carter? No wonder this sounds familiar….

If you didn’t read the word “tax” in the previous sentence, that’s because most who favor raising taxes don’t like to use the word. Instead they use “revenue,” as in the money that comes to the government from taxpayers.

Orwellian Translation:  “Revenue”=Tax

“Pro-Growth” = More Taxes

And IF they control spending, they THINK it will work.

This after ObamaCare, and with Cap & Trade and Amnesty coming…yeah that’s going to happen.

But I’m sure the Fifth Column/Ministry of Truth Mainstream Media has already been briefed on their talking points.

And this “commission” to work out how exactly to get the VAT tax in under the Orwellian Door has cost of $500,000 already, in it’s first week.

It must be all those twists and turns , contortions and distortion exercises.

Oh, and the Commission is expected to hand in it’s report AFTER the November elections… 🙂

Any solution is “going to involve revenue (read:Tax), and we have to face up to that,” Co-Chair Erskine Bowles said.

Translation: No matter what we do or say it all comes down to raising Taxes ON EVERYONE. We just have figure out how to cram the square peg in the Orwellian round hole and sugar coat it so it doesn’t sound like the bitter pill that it is.

That’s what happens when you spend $4 Trillion in 16 Months. Fascinating correlation there.

“I want to make sure that any time we discuss revenues that we don’t do anything that has a negative impact on economic growth,” Bowles said.

Translation:  Whenever we mention raising taxes we have to be sure we are stressing we aren’t  going to raise taxes!! When we are.

And when that doesn’t work <<drum roll please>> IT WAS GEORGE W. BUSH’S FAULT!! <rimshot> 🙂

On the VAT Tax: “It raises a lot of money without affecting what people do and that’s a good thing,” said Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center.

So taxing every step in the production of a product, making the product more expensive to make, thus raising the price of the product will not affect what people do or the product?

Where’s my barf bag…anyone seen it…

So it’s all about trickery and deception.

This is a cod liver oil enema.

We are from the Government and we are here to Help you!

Pay us more, so we can spend even more.

Rejoice.

Your “Pro-Growth Revenue” is on it’s way to you.

Story #2: Oops! did I say what I believe!

It comes to us from Great Britain and is another chilling example of the Politically Correct Thought Police in action.

Where, Like Arizona, you have thought the wrong thought and you must be punished for it.

Also, undoubtedly the same if you call the coming Tax Increases,”Tax Increases”, you’ll be excoriated by the Left and by the Ministry of Truth.

Dale McAlpine was charged with causing “harassment, alarm or distress” after a homosexual police community support officer (PCSO) overheard him reciting a number of “sins” referred to in the Bible, including blasphemy, drunkenness and same sex relationships.

The 42-year-old Baptist, who has preached Christianity in Wokington, Cumbria for years, said he did not mention homosexuality while delivering a sermon from the top of a stepladder, but admitted telling a passing shopper that he believed it went against the word of God.

Police officers are alleging that he made the remark in a voice loud enough to be overheard by others and have charged him with using abusive or insulting language, contrary to the Public Order Act.

Mr McAlpine, who was taken to the police station in the back of a marked van and locked in a cell for seven hours on April 20, said the incident was among the worst experiences of his life.

“I felt deeply shocked and humiliated that I had been arrested in my own town and treated like a common criminal in front of people I know,” he said.

“My freedom was taken away on the hearsay of someone who disliked what I said, and I was charged under a law that doesn’t apply.”

Christian campaigners have expressed alarm that the Public Order Act, introduced in 1986 to tackle violent rioters and football hooligans, is being used to curb religious free speech.

Sam Webster, a solicitor-advocate for the Christian Institute, which is supporting Mr McAlpine, said it is not a crime to express the belief that homosexual conduct is a sin.

“The police have a duty to maintain public order but they also have a duty to defend the lawful free speech of citizens,” he said.

“Case law has ruled that the orthodox Christian belief that homosexual conduct is sinful is a belief worthy of respect in a democratic society.”

Mr McAlpine was handing out leaflets explaining the Ten Commandments or offering a “ticket to heaven” with a church colleague on April 20, when a woman came up and engaged him in a debate about his faith.

During the exchange, he says he quietly listed homosexuality among a number of sins referred to in 1 Corinthians, including blasphemy, fornication, adultery and drunkenness.

After the woman walked away, she was approached by a PCSO who spoke with her briefly and then walked over to Mr McAlpine and told him a complaint had been made, and that he could be arrested for using racist or homophobic language.

The street preacher said he told the PCSO: “I am not homophobic but sometimes I do say that the Bible says homosexuality is a crime against the Creator”.

He claims that the PCSO then said he was homosexual and identified himself as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender liaison officer for Cumbria police. Mr McAlpine replied: “It’s still a sin.”

The preacher then began a 20 minute sermon, in which he says he mentioned drunkenness and adultery, but not homosexuality. Three regular uniformed police officers arrived during the address, arrested Mr McAlpine and put him in the back of a police van.

At the station, he was told to empty his pockets and his mobile telephone, belt and shoes were confiscated. Police took fingerprints, a palm print, a retina scan and a DNA swab.

He was later interviewed, charged under Sections 5 (1) and (6) of the Public Order Act and released on bail on the condition that he did not preach in public.

Mr McAlpine pleaded not guilty at a preliminary hearing on Friday at Wokingham magistrates court and is now awaiting a trial date.

The Public Order Act, which outlaws the unreasonable use of abusive language likely to cause distress, has been used to arrest religious people in a number of similar cases.

Harry Hammond, a pensioner, was convicted under Section 5 of the Act in 2002 for holding up a sign saying “Stop immorality. Stop Homosexuality. Stop Lesbianism. Jesus is Lord” while preaching in Bournemouth.

Stephen Green, a Christian campaigner, was arrested and charged in 2006 for handing out religious leaflets at a Gay Pride festival in Cardiff. The case against him was later dropped.

Cumbria police said last night that no one was available to comment on Mr McAlpine’s case. (Times of London)

And since The Left in this country is very anti-christian a lot of time, how long before we have a Public Order Act? 😦

And remember, the Left in this country not only struck down the National Day of Prayer, but is pushing to have the Chairman of that event, Billy Graham’s son- Rev. Franklin Graham, dis-invited because he had “something bad” to say about Muslims.

So enjoy your “pro growth revenues” secure in the knowledge that your government is looking out for you.

And when the Public Oder Acts come up, just know it’s for the “public good”, after all we have to protect people from the truth and from unapproved thoughts.
