Peace, Love and Hope & Change

Let the Orwellian re-write begin (to suit the Left).

Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez

Charles Krauthammer: Two months and a day before 9/11, terrorism expert Larry C. Johnson published “The Declining Terrorist Threat,” a New York Times op-ed decrying the fact that “Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism,” when, in reality, “the decade beginning in 2000 will continue the downward trend” in lethal terrorism.

A decade later, Osama bin Laden is dead and the old chorus of pre-9/11 complacency has returned. The war on terror is over — yet again, it seems. Bin Laden was but “a distraction,” writes Peter Beinart, and the war on terror “a mistake from the start.” 9/11 was nothing more than “an isolated case,” argues Ross Douthat. And “bin Laden was always the weak horse.”

The new post-bin Laden dispensation is that the entire decade-long war on terror was an overreaction — as shown by the bin Laden operation itself, which, noted one critic, looks a lot like police work, the kind of law enforcement John Kerry insisted in 2004 was the proper prism through which to address the terror threat.

On the contrary. The bin Laden operation is the perfect vindication of the war on terror. It was made possible precisely by the vast, warlike infrastructure that the Bush administration created post-9/11, a fierce regime of capture and interrogation, of dropped bombs and commando strikes. That regime, of course, followed the more conventional war that brought down the Taliban, scattered and decimated al-Qaeda and made bin Laden a fugitive.

Without all of this, the bin Laden operation could never have happened. Whence came the intelligence that led to Abbottabad? Many places, including from secret prisons in Romania and Poland; from terrorists seized and kidnapped, then subjected to interrogations, sometimes “harsh” or “enhanced”; from Gitmo detainees; from a huge bureaucratic apparatus of surveillance and eavesdropping. In other words, from a Global War on Terror infrastructure that critics, including Barack Obama himself, deplored as a tragic detour from American rectitude.

It was all not just un-American, now say the revisionists, but also unnecessary.

Really? We could never have pulled off the bin Laden raid without a major military presence in Afghanistan. The choppers came from our massive base at Bagram. The jump-off point was Jalalabad. The intelligence-gathering drones fly over Pakistan by grace of an alliance (unreliable but indispensable) forged with the United States to fight the war in Afghanistan.

Even the war in Iraq played an (unintended) role. After its rout from Afghanistan, al-Qaeda chose the troubled waters of Iraq as the central front in its war on America — and suffered a stunning defeat, made particularly humiliating when its fellow Sunni Arabs rose up to join the infidel Americans in subduing it.

Bin Laden declared war on us in 1998. But it was not until 9/11 that we took him seriously. At which point we answered with a declaration of war of our own, offering the brutal, unrelenting and ferocious response that war demands and that police work prohibits.

Including bin Laden’s execution. It’s clear there was no intention of capturing him. And for good reason. Doing so would have been insane, gratuitously granting him a second life of immense publicity on a worldwide stage from which to propagandize.

We came to kill. That is what you do in war. Do that in police work and you’ve committed murder. The Navy SEAL(s) who pulled the fateful trigger would be facing charges, not receiving medals.

You want to say we’ve now won the war? Fine. It’s at least an arguable proposition. After all, the war on terror will end one day, and we will return to policing the odd terrorist nut case. I would argue, however, that while bin Laden’s death marks an extremely important inflection point in the fight against jihadism, it’s far too early to declare victory.

Now, it is one thing to have an argument about whether it’s over. It’s quite another to claim that our reaching this happy day — during which we can even be debating whether victory has been achieved — has nothing to do with the war on terror of the previous decade. Al-Qaeda is not subsiding on its own. It is not retiring from the field, having seen the error of its ways. It is not disappearing because of some inexorable law of history or nature. It is in retreat because of the terrible defeats it suffered once America decided to take up arms against it, a campaign (once) known as the war on terror.
And Just remember it was the LEFT that was screaming about a New Ice Age in 1975, by 1980 it was “Global Warming” and now it’s “Global Climate Change” and some on the Left want to go back to Ice Age but their PR won’t allow it.

After all, it’s all about THEM! 🙂

Government Visions

The disturbingly static nature of Obama’s vision is apparent when one parses his comments on the bipartisan fiscal commission headed by Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, and its stark description of how entitlements are on a path to consume the private economy.

“I don’t agree with all their proposals,” Obama began, on what one can hardly call a positive note. On health care, he persists in claiming that Obamacare “will slow these rising costs,” though every informed person knows that the claimed budget savings are the result of Democrats gaming the Congressional Budget Office’s scoring system.

To which Obama added, “I’m willing to look at other ideas to bring down costs” — which sounds a lot like, “I sure can’t think of many.”

And then there is Social Security. Obama calls for a bipartisan solution “without putting at risk current retirees, the most vulnerable, or people with disabilities; without slashing benefits for future generations; and without subjecting Americans’ guaranteed retirement income to the whims of the stock market.”

In other words, let’s reform it but don’t change anything!

That’s an outright rejection of the Pozen plan, which could eliminate much of the future shortfall by indexing the benefits of future high-earner retirees by prices rather than by wages. The Pozen plan would leave low-earners’ benefits untouched and so would actually make the system more progressive. But Obama rejects this mild proposal out of hand.

If you put together Obama’s resistance to just about any serious changes in entitlement spending with his antique vision of technological progress, what you see is an America where the public sector permanently consumes a larger part of the economy than in the past and squanders the proceeds on white elephants like faux high-speed rail lines and political payoffs to the teacher and other public-sector unions. Private-sector innovation gets squeezed out by regulations like the Obama FCC’s net neutrality rules. It’s a plan for a static rather than dynamic economy. (Townhall.com)

The EPA regulating industry, your breath (CO2), Milk, and more.

The FCC regulating the Internet.

FTC regulating business.

But it stays within his ideology and his liberal “vision” of Utopia. And that, after all, is all that matters to him. He has a vision, and that’s it.

High Speed rails, Green Jobs, Green Tech, wind farms, Electric cars, government as nanny and mother, the Birds signing, the Sun shining! Kumbuya!

The Muslim Brotherhood is not an issue (they’ve just started revolutions in Tunsia, Egypt, Jordan, and Yemen- no problem). They are the progenitors of Al-Qaeda and Hamas, but that’s till nothing to worry about.

Reality is not an issue.

Then there’s the TSA:

The TSA has announced its intention to expand the VIPR program to include roadside inspections of commercial vehicles, setting up a network of internal checkpoints and rolling out security procedures already active in airports, bus terminals and subway stations to roads and highways across the United States.

Up until now, commercial trucks and other vehicles only were subject to warrantless searches and radiation scans at specially designated “state-owned inspection stations” traditionally set up at rest stops next to highways. These internal checkpoints, run by Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation, and the TSA, involve trucks being scanned with backscatter x-ray devices in the name of “safety” and “counter terrorism”.

These inspection stations are now being expanded to normal roads and highways, unleashing an army of TSA agents who will be given a free hand to litter America with internal checkpoints in a chilling throwback to Soviet-style levels of control over the population.

“Inspectors from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are likely to be more involved in roadside inspections of commercial vehicles, according to TSA officials,” reports the industry website BulkTransporter.com.

”VIPR (Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response) teams can be extremely effective, serving as a visible presence that is random and unpredictable,” says William Arrington with TSA. “VIPR teams are an essential part of protecting highway transportation vehicles and other critical infrastructures.”

The report also notes that, “VIPR team members may or may not be in uniform,” stoking fears about the use of secret police manning checkpoints which would be more befitting of the Soviet Union or the former East Germany.

As we have documented, airport security style checkpoints and inspection procedures are already in place at bus terminals, train stations, and are rapidly being expanded to the streets of America.

Since the launch of the Department of Homeland Security’s “See Something, Say Something” program, the DHS has also released promotional material which depicts would-be TSA agents conducting searches at public events, including a Buccaneers football game.

Homeland Security is also developing technology to be used at “security events” which purports to monitor “malintent” on behalf of an individual who passes through a checkpoint. The video below explains how “Future Attribute Screening Technology” (FAST) checkpoints will conduct “physiological” and “behavioral” tests in order to weed out suspected terrorists and criminals.

TSA is clearly engaged in a total takeover of society and plans to have its agents searching, patting down, scanning and harassing Americans at all levels of society, not just at transport hubs but at public events, in the street and on highways and roads across the country. (Infowars)

Civility=Shut up! So we Can continue SPENDING!

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

The Democrats are now the Civility Police. The Liberal Media will run you down if you’re “uncivil”.

Mind you, being “uncivil” is disagreeing with a Liberal.

“The GOP’s War Against the Poor and Sick.”  This is a story by Andrew Leonard, Salon.com, Republicans want the poor to die on the street like they used to.

“I’m sure there are plenty of conservatives who want to get rid of Medicaid altogether. If poor old people can’t pay for nursing home care then let them die in the street, like they used to.The Tea Party version of government apparently just doesn’t believe in helping people who can’t help themselves. For the modern Republican Party, it’s far far more important to ensure that those who will never need Medicaid — the richest 1 percent of Americans, the people who are already doing quite fine as their market portfolios swell — get their big fat tax cuts, adding up to $700 billion over the next 10 years, than that the poorest Americans get another $15 billion a year so that they can die in a manner that befits a nation that dares considers itself civilized.” (salon.com)

Another Leftist blogger said before the State of Union speech it was Obama’s audition piece to be a REPUBLICAN!

And if you point out that Obama’s speech was more about spending and his leftist Agenda you’re “uncivil”.

But saying people are going to die in the streets is ok, as long as your a liberal.

It’s ok to talk about “investments” (aka spending) on high-speed rail and alternative energy (“green”).

But not where the F*CK is the money going to come from!!

Political Cartoon

“We need to out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world,” Mr. Obama said in tones that resembled a halftime pep talk. “We have to make America the best place on earth to do business.”

Then you look at the last few years of anti-business rhetoric, Class and race Warfare , regulations (EPA, FCC,FTC, etc) and tax nightmares and you wonder what has this guy been smoking or is he just high on his own  happy juice!

And you F*cking kidding me!

Among other proposals, Mr. Obama called on the nation to prepare 100,000 new math, science and engineering teachers.

Yeah, that’s what we need, more Union members to teach Socialism in the classroom and collect massive over-the-top pensions and benefits we can’t pay for now!

“We’re going to have to out-educate other countries,” President Obama urged this week. How? By out-spending them, of course! It’s the same old quack cure for America’s fat and failing government-run schools monopoly. The one-trick ponies at the White House call their academic improvement agenda “targeted investing” for “winning the future.” Truth in advertising: Get ready to fork over more Cash for Education Clunkers. (michelle malkin)

And where the F*ck is the money going to come from??

But that was “uncivil” wasn’t it? 🙂

And he laid down a series of goals: By 2035, he said 80% of America’s electricity should come from clean energy sources. Within 25 years, 80% of Americans should have access to high-speed rail. Within five years, communications businesses should be able to deploy high-speed wireless to 98% of all Americans. He did little to explain how those goals would be reached beyond pledges to boost federal spending on infrastructure and basic research.

Sounds like SPENDING to me! And the liberal “green” agenda. Screw the fact that technology isn’t viable yet. It FELLS GOOD.

And he wants you out of your Oil guzzing  environmentally-unfriendly Car!

And let’s not even talk about evil Coal. <shutter>

It’s all solar panels, wind farms , biofuels, and algae.

Political CartoonSo Where is the Money coming from? China??

“Our nation is approaching a tipping point,” said Mr. Ryan. “We are at a moment, where if government’s growth is left unchecked and unchallenged, America’s best century will be considered our past century. This is a future in which we will transform our social safety net into a hammock, which lulls able-bodied people into lives of complacency and dependency.”-House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.)

Screw the hammock, the Left wants a f*cking Sleep Number Bed set on 1!!!

But a liberal on MSNBC (shocking!) got it:

By the time you finish reading this column, the United States government will be $10 million deeper in debt.

In the time it takes the president to deliver his State of the Union address, America will be $120 million deeper in debt.

When you wake up tomorrow morning, Washington’s reckless ways will have put us an additional $1 billion in the hole.

Before you know it, America will add another $1 trillion to its $14,000,000,000,000.00 debt.

And yet neither party has the guts to tell voters the truth about just how bad things have become and what sacrifice is required to avoid disaster.

So the next time you wonder whether a Republican or a Democrat is lying when he says he’s serious about tackling America’s debt, just ask that politician whether he is ready to cut Pentagon spending, along with Social Security and Medicare benefits to future recipients. If not, then that politician is either a coward or a fool. (Joe Scarborough)

OBAMA: “I’m willing to look at other ideas to bring down costs, including one that Republicans suggested last year: medical malpractice reform to rein in frivolous lawsuits.”

THE FACTS: Republicans may be forgiven if this offer makes them feel like Charlie Brown running up to kick the football, only to have it pulled away, again.

Obama has expressed openness before to this prominent Republican proposal, but it has not come to much. It was one of several GOP ideas that were dropped or diminished in the health care law after Obama endorsed them in a televised bipartisan meeting at the height of the debate. (Reuters)

The “party of no” anyone? And the Trial Lawyers will be visiting him today to remind him that he’s their bitch, not the other way around.

But all this is very uncivil. 🙂

THE NEW FIFTH ORWELLIAN PRECEPT

Political Cartoon

We should all be familiar with the 3 classic slogans of Orwell’s 1984. If not, you’re missing a big chunk of what I say.

“War is Peace,” “Freedom is Slavery” and “Ignorance is Strength.”

The Fourth being my own: “FEAR IS HOPE”

(see https://indyfromaz.wordpress.com/2010/09/10/the-4th-precept/)

Now we have the Fifth:

“Spending is Investment.”

But it’s still spending. And where in the $14 Trillion debt are we going to get all this money, pre tell?

Orwell pointed out that “political language — and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists — is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

The “investment” the president touted Tuesday night is the opposite of true investment. It is Uncle Sam maxing out all of his unborn nieces’ and nephews’ credit cards in exchange for a one-way ticket to the poorhouse, a destination that is getting closer. (IBD)

But that’s just being uncivil so I better just sing Kumbuya and just accept it.

WTF! China?!

If I wrote this as a joke, I’d catch crap for falsely depicting Barry & Co. as a bunch of pinkos. Associated Press:

The United States and China reported no major breakthroughs Friday after only their second round of talks about human rights since 2002…

Michael Posner, the assistant secretary of state, told reporters that another round will happen some time next year in Beijing…

Posner said in addition to talks on freedom of religion and expression, labor rights and rule of law, officials also discussed Chinese complaints about problems with U.S. human rights, which have included crime, poverty, homelessness and racial discrimination.

He said U.S. officials did not whitewash the American record and in fact raised on its own a new immigration law in Arizona that requires police to ask about a person’s immigration status if there is suspicion the person is in the country illegally.

That’s right: We said “sorry” to China for violating human rights by enforcing our own immigration laws.

Jay Nordlinger at the Corner asks: “Did we, the United States, talking to a government that maintains a gulag, that denies people their basic rights, that in all probability harvests organs, apologize for the new immigration law in Arizona?” Yep! And John Hinderaker at Powerline wants to know: “Is it unfair to say that the Obama administration consists of a bunch of anti-American ignoramuses? If so, why?” Ya got me! (Daily Caller)

Yes, folks! The people who brought you forced abortions, gulags, repression and Tienanmen Square are now official not as bad as Arizona!

You’re Bad, but we’re bad too, Kumbuya!  can’t we all just get along.

<<<BARF>>>

<<<BARF>>>

<<<BARF>>>

MICHAEL POSNER, ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE: We brought it up early and often. It was mentioned in the first session and as a troubling trend in our society and an indication that we have to deal with issues of discrimination, of potential discrimination. And that these are issues very much being debated in our own society.

<<<BARF>>>

<<<BARF>>>

<<<BARF>>>

The Chinese, who incarcerate people for political opinion, who have brutalized the nation of Tibet, who have no protections for freedom of speech, the press or anything else, are being asked to discuss the new Arizona law? Is this “The Twilight Zone”? Why would the Obama administration even bring it up?

Once again, this Chinese thing is stunning. If you sneak into China, you’ll wind up in a concentration camp or with a bullet in your head, and the Obama administration is discussing Arizona with these people? Totally beyond the pale.

“Talking Points” will remind you that more than 60 percent of Americans support the Arizona law, fully realizing that the federal government will not secure the border and the state had to do something.

Later this week, President Obama will meet with the Mexican president, and the Arizona law is sure to come up there as well. We will watch that very closely. (Bill O’Reilly)

And he will no doubt apologize again.

<<BARF>>

After all, Mexico and Latin American are quite literally throwing these people at us, but we are going to apologize to THEM for some of US  getting upset over the murders, the shoot-outs, the drugs, violence and civil unrest.

Damn, there must be something in that Harvard Law School water…

But don’t worry, dear seekers of truth, you won’t find it anywhere on The Ministry of Truth.

They are crusaders for justice, fairness, and the Liberal Socialist Way!

And Arizona is definitely on a moral relative par with China. 😦

Duck & Cover: The Next Generation

President Obama said in a speech before the 47-nation Nuclear Security Summit, which concluded Tuesday, that “the risk of a nuclear confrontation between nations has gone down, but the risk of nuclear attack has gone up.”

So that’s why I have pursued my 1960’s kumbuya approach to disarmament!!

If we just smile and show we aren’t a threat the big bad raptors of Islamic Terrorism & Iran won’t nuke us.

So let’s every just get rid of our nukes and everything will be peachy-keen.

Only it won’t.

And only we are supposed to disarm.

After all, American is the problem.

We are too big. Too Powerful. We are too cowboy.

We want to save everyone. At least we did until the Great Appeaser was elected and he bowed to every dictator out there and had the silly notion that he destroys our superpower status that radical Islamic Terrorists (2 of these words are not allowed anymore, can you guess which ones) will just go away.

I don’t think he’s naive.

I don’t think he’s stupid.

As I have said before, he has an ideology, and that’s it.

There is nothing else.

And that ideology will be followed regardless of how fanciful, idealist, or wrong-headed it is.

The Ideology uber alles!

And we can’t call them “Islamic Terrorists” even if they are Islamic and Terrorists.

President Barack Obama’s advisers plan to remove terms such as “Islamic radicalism” from a document outlining national security strategy and will use the new version to emphasize that the U.S. does not view Muslim nations through the lens of terrorism, counterterrorism officials say.

If we just use nice words, and we bow, and we bare a smile instead of our teeth, the big bad boogeyman radicals will not want to destroy us anymore….

Nice Raptor…

“Do you want to think about the U.S. as the nation that fights terrorism or the nation you want to do business with?” National Security Council staffer Pradeep Ramamurthy said.

But Fair Warning: If you get a Nuke in the face and manage to survive…

The White House has warned state and local governments not to expect a “significant federal response” at the scene of a terrorist nuclear attack for 24 to 72 hours after the blast, according to a planning guide.
The report has never been formally released to the public, White House spokesman Nick Shapiro says.

President Obama told delegates from 47 nations at the Nuclear Security Summit on Tuesday that it would be a “catastrophe for the world” if al-Qaeda or another terrorist group got a nuclear device, because so many lives would be lost and it would be so hard to mitigate damage from the blast.

Now imagine, Bush or  Republican had said that?

Talk about setting off a Nuke?

I bet the Ministry of Truth glosses it over so thick it will be nearly impenetrable. How about you?

And what if it’s another Katrina?

I’m sorry, the President is busy shining his Nobel Peace Prize, call back in 72 hours!!

Rick Nelson of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “Do I think in my lifetime I’ll see the detonation of a nuclear device? I do.”

I do to.

And if Phoenix were the target and I’m home or at work I’m pretty dead. I’m too close to downtown either way.

But I think New York or L.A. are much richer targets.

Now that’s “Hope and Change” for you. 😦

Hope you don’t get a Nuke in the Face that is.

Hope the government gives a crap afterwards in 3 days or so.

But he feels your future pain.

He’s not going to do anything to prevent it. But he does feel it.

Doesn’t that make you feel better!? 😦

I guess it’s time for that stockpile of duct tape! 🙂

Duct and Cover!! 🙂
