The Audacity of Dishonesty

1. Announcing a massive $26 billion mortgage deal with “abusive” banks, the president blamed everybody for record foreclosures except the party most culpable: government.

Speaking Thursday from the White House, Obama scolded “irresponsible” and “reckless” lenders, who “sold homes to people who couldn’t afford them.”

Yeah, they dragged people into it, held them down and forced them to do it!

And the people came in and demanded it first!

Back in 2003, as the Examiner’s Philip Klein points out, <Barney> Frank said that the government-sponsored entities were not in any sort of crisis. “The more people exaggerate these problems,” Frank told the New York Times, “the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

For the most part, private firms such as Countrywide Financial were issuing “nontraditional” mortgages in order to package them off to Wall Street and make money, not to please Barney Frank. Like most policymakers, Frank didn’t appear to see the housing bubble or looming subprime crisis before it was too late. (WP)

He <Obama> also cited buyers who bought homes bigger than their budgets, and Wall Street bankers who packaged the shaky mortgages and traded them for “profit.”

“It was wrong,” he asserted. And now the nation’s “biggest banks will be required to right these wrongs.”

Obama acts as if the private sector bears all the responsibility for the mortgage mess. But he and his attorney general know it’s merely a scapegoat for the reckless government housing policies they and their ilk drafted and enforced in the run-up to the crisis.

Starting in the mid-1990s — in a historic first — it became federal regulatory policy to force all U.S. lenders to scrap traditional lending standards for home loans on the grounds they were “racially discriminatory.”

President Clinton fretted that blacks and other minorities could not qualify for mortgages at nearly the same rates as whites and Asians. So Clinton codified more “flexible” underwriting standards in a “Policy Statement on Discrimination in Lending,” and entered it into the Federal Register.

At the same time, he set up a little-known federal body made up of 10 regulatory agencies — the Interagency Task Force on Fair Lending — to enforce the looser standards. It threatened lenders to either ease credit for low-income borrowers or face investigations for lending discrimination and suffer the related bad publicity. It also threatened to deny them expansion plans and access to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“The agencies will not tolerate lending discrimination in any form,” the 20-page document warned financial institutions. The task force enforced these policies throughout the Bush administration.

According to Peter Ferrara, senior fellow at the Carleson Center for Public Policy:

“This overregulation reached the point of forcing lenders to discount bad credit history, no credit history, no savings, lack of steady employment, a high ratio of mortgage obligations to income, undocumented income, and inability to finance down payment and closing costs, while counting unemployment benefits and even welfare as income in qualifying for a mortgage.

“This” he said, “turned into government-sanctioned looting of the banks.”

The Justice Department — along with HUD, which regulated Fannie and Freddie — proved the most aggressive members of the fair-lending task force. Eric Holder, then acting as deputy AG, ordered lenders to actually “target” African-Americans for home mortgages they couldn’t otherwise afford. Obama cheered Holder on as an inner-city community organizer who also pressured banks to ease credit for home borrowers.

In other words, the same two officials now leading the charge to punish “abusive” lenders had egged them on before the crisis.(IBD)

2. The Obama administration is now telling liberals that it is not backing down on its new health-care mandate, even as it coos of compromise to religious groups appalled by it. These messages may seem to be contradictory, but actually the administration has been quite consistent: Nothing it has ever said on this issue has been trustworthy.

Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services, has been the leading misleader. The administration, recall, has decided that almost all employers must cover contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients in their employees’ insurance plans — even if those employers are religious universities, hospitals, and charities that reject those practices.

So she has tried to make the mandate seem more moderate than it is. In USA Today, she writes that “in the rule we put forward, we specifically carved out from the policy religious organizations that primarily employ people of their own faith.” Taken at face value, this statement would seem to imply that Notre Dame could escape the mandate if it fired its non-Catholic employees. That policy would be outrageous: What gives the federal government the legitimate authority to tell a religious institution how it should structure its mission? But in fact the administration would make the university jump through several more hoops. It would also have to expel its non-Catholic students. And even these changes would not be enough, since the university would continue to do much more than attempt to inculcate religious beliefs in its students — which is another test the administration requires for the exemption to apply.

Sebelius says that three states have religious exemptions as narrow as the one the federal government has adopted. The notion that the federal government is imposing the model of three very liberal states — New York, Oregon, and Vermont — on the entire country is not comforting. But even in those states, some employers have been able to sidestep the mandates by, for example, organizing their insurance under federal regulation, which until now has not overridden conscience. The new mandate eliminates that escape route.

Joel Hunter, one of Obama’s pet pastors, says “this policy can be nuanced.” (“I have come to bring nuance,” as Matthew 10:34 does not say.) He is wrong. Either the administration will back off, and allow religious organizations to follow their consciences, or it will not. If it chooses the former course, it may still find a way to increase access to contraception — which is not especially scarce, by the way — but it will have to replace its current policy, not just “nuance” it. “Nuance” is the new Orwellian phrase for LYING. 🙂

But the assurances were greeted Tuesday with skepticism from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which has been leading the opposition to the new requirement.

“So far, ‘work this thing through’ is just the sugar-coated version of ‘force you to comply,’ ” Anthony R. Picarello Jr., general counsel for the conference, said in an e-mail.

Remember, compromise with a Liberal means that you compromise your principles to do what THEY want you to do.

3. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked to respond to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s comment that the lack of a budget creates “uncertainty” which is “negative for growth.”

Carney responded: “I have no opinion; the White House has no opinion on Chairman Bernanke’s assessment of how the Senate ought to do its business.”

4. EPIC <The Electronic Privacy Information Center >director Ginger McCall notes that monitoring what people are saying about government policies goes too far and has a chilling effect on free speech.

“The Department of Homeland Security’s monitoring of political dissent has no legal basis and is contrary to core First Amendment principles,” she said.

“The language in the documents makes it quite clear that they are looking for media reports that are critical of the agency and the U.S. government more broadly,” said McCall. “This is entirely outside of the bounds of the agency’s statutory duties.”

DHS officials have admitted that monitoring of social networks for negative opinion was undertaken by the agency, but claim that the operation was a one off test and was quickly dropped as it did not meet “operational requirements or privacy standards,” which “expressly prohibit reporting on individuals’ First Amendment activities.”

EPIC argues otherwise and has presented evidence that suggests the practice is being held up by the DHS an an example that should be emulated.

“They are completely out of bounds here,” McCall said. “The idea that the government is constantly peering over your shoulder and listening to what you are saying creates a very chilling effect to legitimate dissent.(Info Wars)

5. Mexican cartel suspects targeted in the troubled gun-trafficking probe known as Operation Fast and Furious were actually working as FBI informants at the time, according to a congressional memo that describes the case’s mission as a “failure.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has acknowledged that guns were allowed into the hands of Mexican criminals for more than a year in the hope of catching “big fish.”

The memorandum from staffers with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform says the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration were investigating a drug-trafficking organization and had identified cartel associates a year before the ATF even learned who they were. At some point before the ATF’s Fast and Furious investigation progressed — congressional investigators don’t know when — the cartel members became FBI informants.

“These were the ‘big fish,’ ” says the memo, written on behalf of Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. “DEA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had jointly opened a separate investigation targeting these two cartel associates. … Yet, ATF spent the next year engaging in the reckless tactics of Fast and Furious in attempting to identify them.”

According to Issa and Grassley, the cartel suspects, whose names were not released, were regarded by FBI as “national-security assets.” One pleaded guilty to a minor offense. The other was not charged. “Both became FBI informants and are now considered unindictable,” the memo says. “This means that the entire goal of Fast and Furious — to target these two individuals and bring them to justice — was a failure.”

Representatives with the Justice Department and its subagencies declined to comment.

6. Deputy Attorney General James Cole had informed the committee in a letter last week that it would be “impossible” to comply with the document request by Issa’s deadline.

At issue are thousands of pages of internal Justice Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) documents from last year which the Justice Department has provided to the investigating Justice Inspector General, but which the Justice Department initially indicated are not subject to congressional review because of the constitutional separation of powers.

7. Last Thursday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to answer questions about his role in the deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal. However, instead of answers, Congress got more defiance, more arrogance, and more wasted time with an attorney general who clearly feels no sense of obligation to the American people or our rule of law. …

In a rash attempt to deflect attention away from himself and his own irresponsibility, Holder let Congress know that the Obama administration is still working toward the day when it can reinstate former President Bill Clinton’s so-called “assault weapons” ban. According to Holder:

“This administration has consistently favored the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban. It is something that we think was useful in the past with regard to the reduction that we’ve seen in crime, and certainly would have a positive impact on our relationship and the crime situation in Mexico.”

It’s difficult to follow Holder’s logic here, but it goes something like this …

The Obama administration — particularly Eric Holder’s Justice Department — oversaw an epic scandal whereby our own federal government illegally funneled thousands of firearms into the hands of Mexican drug lords. This contributed to the death of one U.S. Border Patrol agent and hundreds of Mexicans.

Despite being head of the Justice Department and our nation’s chief law enforcement officer, Eric Holder claims he doesn’t know how or why this scandal occurred, or even who under his charge may have authorized it. He also refuses to turn over critical documents to congressional investigators that could help prevent something this tragic and corrupt from ever happening again.

Therefore, Obama and Holder are confident that if they can ban a large number of the legal firearms that law-abiding Americans use every day for self-defense, hunting, and recreational and competitive target shooting, it will help solve Mexico’s crime problem.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is going to delay implementation and revisit a proposed new 15 cent fee on fresh-cut Christmas trees,  sources tell ABC News. 🙂

Heritage Foundation assailing the president thus: “The economy is barely growing and nine percent of the American people have no jobs. Is a new tax on Christmas trees the best President Obama can do? And, by the way, the American Christmas tree has a great image that doesn’t need any help from the government.”

White House spokesman Matt Lehrich told ABC News that despite some media coverage, “I can tell you unequivocally that the Obama Administration is not taxing Christmas trees. What’s being talked about here is an industry group deciding to impose fees on itself to fund a promotional campaign, similar to how the dairy producers have created the ‘Got Milk?’ campaign.”

Got Tax? 🙂

If They won’t even own up to this. Can you imagine, Fast & Furious? 🙂

Mortgage giant Fannie Mae is asking the federal government for $7.8 billion in aid to cover its losses in the July-September quarter.

The government-controlled company said Tuesday that it lost $7.6 billion in the third quarter. Low mortgage rates reduced profits and declining home prices caused more defaults on loans it had guaranteed.

Chronic Unemployment doesn’t help. But that’s the Republican’s/Bush/Tea Party/The Rich/Banks Fault! 🙂

The government rescued Fannie Mae and sibling company Freddie Mac in September 2008 to cover their losses on soured mortgage loans. Since then, a federal regulator has controlled their financial decisions.

Taxpayers have spent about $169 billion to rescue Fannie and Freddie, the most expensive bailout of the 2008 financial crisis. The government estimates that figure could reach up $220 billion to support the companies through 2014 after subtracting dividend payments.

Fannie has received $112.6 billion so far from the Treasury Department, the most expensive bailout of a single company.

Michael Williams, Fannie’s president and CEO, said Fannie’s losses are increasing for two reasons: Some homeowners are paying less interest after refinancing at historically low mortgage rates; others are defaulting on their mortgages.

Well, having no job or losing one is one major factor.

And the official unemployment has been over 8% since February 2009 and the real one around 17% for nearly 3 years. So much so that even 99 weeks of unemployment has not been enough.

But that’s Bush, the Republicans, the Tea Party’s, The Rich’s, Corporate America’s Fault! 🙂
“Despite these challenges, we are making solid progress,” he said. For example, Fannie’s rate of homeowners who are late on their monthly mortgage payments by 90 days or more has decreased each quarter since the beginning of 2010, he said.

When property values drop, homeowners default, either because they are unable to afford the payments or because they owe more than the property is worth. Because of the guarantees, Fannie and Freddie must pay for the losses.

Government control at it’s finest! And just think what they’ll do with Health Care!! 🙂

Fannie said lower mortgage rates contributed to $4.5 billion in quarterly losses.

News that make you go Hmmmm…

Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country — Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. — but never in Chicago.

So it’s curious that all the sexual harassment allegations against Cain emanate from Chicago: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod.

Suspicions had already fallen on Sheila O’Grady, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley’s chief of staff to president of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain’s personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).

The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, Cain’s short, three-year tenure at the NRA is evidently the only period in his decades-long career during which he’s alleged to have been a sexual predator.

After O’Grady’s name surfaced in connection with the miraculous appearance of Cain’s personnel files from the NRA, she issued a Clintonesque denial of any involvement in producing them — by vigorously denying that she knew Cain when he was at the NRA. (Duh.)

And now, after a week of conservative eye-rolling over unspecified, anonymous accusations against Cain, we’ve suddenly got very specific sexual assault allegations from an all-new accuser out of … Chicago.

Herman Cain has never lived in Chicago. But you know who has? David Axelrod! And guess who lived in Axelrod’s very building? Right again: Cain’s latest accuser, Sharon Bialek.

Bialek’s accusations were certainly specific. But they also demonstrated why anonymous accusations are worthless.

Within 24 hours of Bialek’s press conference, friends and acquaintances of hers stepped forward to say that she’s a “gold-digger,” that she was constantly in financial trouble — having filed for personal bankruptcy twice — and, of course, that she had lived in Axelrod’s apartment building at 505 North Lake Shore Drive, where, she admits, she knew the man The New York Times calls Obama’s “hired muscle.”

Throw in some federal tax evasion, and she’s Obama’s next Cabinet pick.

The reason all this is relevant is that both Axelrod and Daley have a history of smearing political opponents by digging up claims of sexual misconduct against them. (ann coulter)

More Government Wonderfulness:

With a record number of Americans out of work, the government agency responsible for advancing employment in the United States just doled out $1.5 million http://www.dol.gov/opa/media/press/ilab/ILAB20111490.htm to promote collective bargaining and improve labor relations in Vietnam.

The senseless allocation comes after a series of equally questionable moves by the Department of Labor (DOL) on behalf of illegal immigrants, juvenile delinquents and “high-risk” adults. Last year the agency launched a nationwide initiative to protect illegal immigrant workers in the U.S. and a few months ago it entered formal agreements with Guatemala and Nicaragua <http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2011/jun/labor-dept-protects-central-american-migrants>vowing to preserve the rights of their migrants.

It’s a worthy investment, according to the DOL, because it’s designed to improve Vietnam’s labor relations policies and initiatives by strengthening labor law enforcement and labor inspection and increasing the capacity for a more effective dispute resolution system for workers and employers. Here is the kicker; it will also improve “worker organizations’ (can you say unions?) ability to represent employees and engage in collective bargaining. (KFYI)

Speaking of Priorities:

Lady Gaga, a “persona derived from her unique, androgynous, vintage-themed fashion sense”; “celebrated” cartoonist Alison Bechdel, who is famous for “Dykes To Watch Out For”; and Rita Mae Brown, author of the “lesbian-themed novel “Rubyfruit Jungle,” soon could become role models in California schools.

That means SB48 will take effect on Jan. 1, 2012, as was scheduled by the Democrats who approved it in the state Legislature. The law requires that schools uphold people with alternative sexual lifestyles as positive role models.

The law requires schools to teach “gay” and “lesbian” involvement in history but only from a positive perspective. It bans any statement, fact or information that would reflect “adversely” on those who choose an alternative sexual lifestyle. (There’s that Liberal Freedom of speech and need to teach objective history without their own agenda!) 🙂

But you can run down White Christians over and over again, then backup and do it again. But saying bad about the LGBT crowd you’re in deep crapola!

No bias or social enginerring (or agenda) here. Move along….

An unofficial gauge of human misery in the United States rose last month to a 28-year high as Americans struggled with rising inflation and high unemployment.

The misery index — which is simply the sum of the country’s inflation and unemployment rates — rose to 13.0, pushed up by higher price data the government reported on Wednesday.

The data underscores the extent that Americans continue to suffer even two years after a deep recession ended.

Consumer prices rose 3.9 percent in the 12 months through September, the fastest pace in three years.

 But what’s really important is union and public sector jobs. Private sector jobs are doing fine (according too VP Biden).

And we all know this Bush’s Fault. The Republicans. The “rich”. And the Tea Party. 🙂

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama this week will announce a series of actions to help the economy that will not require congressional approval, including an initiative to make it easier for homeowners to refinance their mortgages, according to a White House official.

Damn those Republicans. I guess I will just have to everything I want by Fiat. But that doesn’t make me a dictator.

And when it fails miserably, it will still be the Republicans fault because they forced him to go around them. If they had only passed the bill like I demanded…

Think about that for a moment… 🙂

He will discuss the changes in mortgage rules at a stop in Nevada, which has one of the hardest-hit housing markets in the country. (and the home of Harry “The private sector is fine” Reid).

The FHFA intends to loosen the terms of the two-year-old Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP), which helps borrowers who have been making mortgage payments on time but who have not been able to refinance as their home values have dropped.

This would be the program that has so much bureaucracy that your chance of getting the modification was 7%.

And, didn’t the government monkeying with the housing market in the 1990s when they wanted to make home ownership easier and that caused it to crashed the entire economy — YES!

So in typical Liberal fashion, if at first you don’t succeed, fail, fail again! 🙂

But don’t worry, it won’t be their fault.

“The only way we can truly attack our economic challenges is with bold, bipartisan action in Congress,” White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer told The New York Times.

That’s why I’m going around them!!

Remember, bi-partisan to a liberal is “You agree with everything I want and sit down and shut up”.

Occupy Wall Street protesters are undergoing collectivist zombie training in Atlanta, where a large group was caught on film engaging in a weird sort of “one voice” hypnotic chanting ritual that characterizes the key principles of both Communism and Socialism.

Having an extensive background in studying linguistics and human psychology, I recognize mass hypnosis when I see it.

The mind-numbing call-and-return vocalizations captured in this video reflect the same kind of mind control techniques used in cults, sporting events and even some church revival events.

The whole point of this experience is to eliminate the individual mind and train everyone to think, and say, and do exactly what they are told to do by a “leaderless leader” who is really a mind control manipulator.

Free-thinking individuals do not engage in this kind of behavior! If I had witnessed this in person, I would have shouted out, “You are all zombies!” at which point I’m sure I would probably need my zombie defender flamethrower to roast the mindless masses as they tried to swarm over me with their “one mind” attack.

The only path to true freedom is found in protecting individual liberty which necessarily involves protecting the individual right to speak your mind without seeking permission from some kind of weird collectivist groupthink.

If you thought George Bush and his secret prisons were bad, just imagine Nancy Pelosi leading a national zombie chant, declaring that anyone earning over $125,000 a year should have their wealth confiscated; that Free Speech is now subject to government approval; that everyone except the government should be completely disarmed; and that individual liberty must be sacrificed for the “common good of the People.”

These are all code words for outright government tyranny.

Remember: Just because our current system is headed for collapse doesn’t mean we’re automatically going to get something better in its place. If we want a truly free and just society, we will have to fight for it.

If you thought George Bush and his secret prisons were bad, just imagine Nancy Pelosi leading a national zombie chant, declaring that anyone earning over $125,000 a year should have their wealth confiscated; that Free Speech is now subject to government approval; that everyone except the government should be completely disarmed; and that individual liberty must be sacrificed for the “common good of the People.”

I think that’s what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature when this issue came up [there were] only four dissenting votes. This was a state issue. Texas voted on it. And I still support it today.”

Sounds like an Open Borders Liberal to me.

I have no allegiance to a candidate at this time. Perry’s Pro-Illegal stance makes me mad. RomneyCare makes me made. And this is the best the Republicans can do??

Moore was alluding to riots, which he was discussing with “Countdown” host Keith Olbermann prior to his comment to deal with things nonviolently now.

Lawyers should be allowed to win financial damages from companies that refuse to hire unemployed people, according to a coalition of Democratic legislators, progressive advocates and entrepreneurial trial lawyers.

The existence of even a few advertisements excluding unemployed applicants in the national marketplace justifies a federal law creating a novel market for legal skills, say the advocates.

“We don’t know for sure how extensive it is … [but] if it is on one [job advertisement] website, that’s too extensive for me,” the bill’s chief backer, Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, told the TheDC.

The advocacy campaign was kicked into gear by the National Employment Law Project, a union-led advocacy group.

Law firms, however, see potential revenue amid the recession.

“We represent employes and people looking for work,” said Marilyn Widman, a partner at the law firm Allotta, Farley and Widman, based in Toledo, Ohio. The proposed law would forbid companies from openly barring unemployed applicants, but it would also allow lawyers to investigate companies that may be discriminating, she said during a joint phone press conference with Brown.

“If it a appears from all the facts that someone’s unemployment was a factor [in that person not being hired], there would be a cause of action,” and the company could be required to compensate the applicant and pay additional damages, she said.

“When businesses are investing money to hire lawyers, that’s money they’re not using to grow their businesses and create jobs,” Saltsman said.

The controversy, he said, also gives false hopes to unemployed people. “It is false hope for somebody who is unemployed, or for a country that is grappling with the fact that our labor market has not recovered.” For politicians dealing with unemployed constituents, “it is a diversionary tactic to … another topic of conversation,” said Saltsman.

Can’t win an argument, hire a lawyer to sue them into submission. Sounds like a Liberal.

So the reason you can’t get a job is the employer’s fault, not the fault of over-regulation, uncertainty, and a government out to get businesses anyway they can.

Michelle Malkin: President Obama still hasn’t learned the classic First Rule of Holes: When you’re in one, stop digging. Up to his earlobes in failed stimulus grants and tainted federal loan guarantees, the shoveler in chief tunneled forward this week on his latest Government Loans to Nowhere bill. His willful ignorance is America’s abyss.

Little noticed in the White House jobs-for-cronies proposal is a provision creating yet another corruption-friendly “government corporation” that would dole out public infrastructure loans and loan guarantees.

Because, you know, the government-chartered, political hack-stacked Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac “public-private partnerships” — which have incurred an estimated $400 billion in losses while enriching bipartisan Beltway operatives — worked out so well for American taxpayers.

The new monstrosity, dubbed the “American Infrastructure Financing Authority” (AIFA), would “provide direct loans and loan guarantees to facilitate investment in economically viable infrastructure projects of regional or national significance,” according to the White House plan.

President Obama would have the power to appoint AIFA’s chief executive officer and a seven-member board of directors. No doubt the nominees would include the likes of AFL-CIO Chief Richard Trumka on the left and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on the right — strange Obama bedfellows who have formed a Big Labor-Big Business-Big Government alliance supporting Obama’s infrastructure slush fund.

In addition, a new bureaucracy to support AIFA would be created, including a “Chief Lending Officer” in charge of “all functions of AIFA relating to the development of project pipeline, financial structuring of projects, selection of infrastructure projects”; the “creation and management of a Center for Excellence to provide technical assistance to public sector borrowers in the development and financing of infrastructure projects”; and creation and funding of “an Office of Rural Assistance to provide technical assistance in the development and financing of rural infrastructure projects.”

In its first two years, AIFA would rake in $10 billion in congressional appropriations; $20 billion over the next seven years; and $50 billion per fiscal year after that. How would Obama ensure the loan review process is protected from special interest favor-trading and White House meddling? If the ongoing, half-billion-dollar stimulus-funded Solyndra solar company loan debacle is any indication, the answer is: not very well.

And consider Obama’s naked partisan stunt on Thursday at the Brent Spence Bridge connecting GOP House Speaker John Boehner’s home state of Ohio and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s home state of Kentucky. “There’s no reason for Republicans in Congress to stand in the way of more construction projects. There’s no reason to stand in the way of more jobs,” he railed. “Mr. Boehner, Mr. McConnell, help us rebuild this bridge. Help us rebuild America. Help us put this country back to work. Pass this jobs bill right away!”

While he has high-mindedly called on “Washington” (as if he isn’t at the center of it) to put country over politics, he continues to use tax dollars to travel the country for campaign events assailing Republicans in front of decrepit bridges that wouldn’t see a dime of his “immediate” jobs bill money for years. If ever.

The point was made not by evil GOP obstructionists, but by the local Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper, which pointed out that the Brent Spence Bridge is not named in Obama’s jobs bill, has no guarantee of funding in the jobs bill, and “is still in the preliminary engineering and environmental clearance phase. In a best case scenario, the earliest that workers would be hired would be in 2013, but more likely 2015.”

It gets worse. Obama’s infrastructure loan corps wouldn’t just oversee bridge loans to nowhere. The AIFA board would get to dispense billions and score political points for their favorite photo-op-ready roads, mass transit, inland waterways, commercial ports, airports, air traffic control systems, passenger rail, high-speed rail, freight rail, wastewater treatment facilities, storm water management systems, dams, solid-waste disposal facilities, drinking water treatment facilities, levees, power transmission and distribution, storage, and energy-efficiency enhancements for buildings.

As I reported in my Tuesday column, a separate $6 billion “private nonprofit corporation” would be created by the Obama jobs plan to oversee the “Public Safety Broadband Corporation.” The panel would consist of 11 board members and four Obama administration officials. It, too, would be tasked with choosing winners and losers. Instead of local and state governments overseeing construction, this new federally created investing entity would “hold the single public safety wireless license granted under section 281 and take all actions necessary to ensure the building, deployment, and operation of a secure and resilient nationwide public safety interoperable broadband network.”

Given last week’s bombshell revelations of White House pressure on military and government officials to promote the president’s old broadband cronies at shady LightSquared Inc., the idea of empowering a new Obama bureaucracy to dole out more broadband contracts in the name of “public safety” is unsettling at best. Deeper and deeper we go.

Unemployment: August 2009– 9.7

Current: 9.1 (August figures to be reported on Sept 2nd)

The Unemployment rate since this blog started has been over 9% except for two months (Feb & March 2011 where it hit a low at 8.8%!)

It has been over 8% since Feb 2009. So how’s that focus on Jobs going, Mr Obama?  Going to unveil yet another Class warfare/Tax and Spend plan that will fail but keep up with your rigid ideology? And when it fails, it will be someone’s fault, after all.

The president and his political allies have called for an unemployment benefit extension as a form of economic stimulus. Obama recently claimed that such an extension will “put money in people’s pockets and more customers in stores.” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney claimed that an extension of unemployment benefits could create up to a million jobs. (Heritage)

The average worker who is unemployed has been searching for a job for 40.4 weeks, or more than nine months, according to new Labor Department figures.

That is if they don’t just give up or are underemployed.

So in 2 Years has Obamanomics “stimulated” anything besides misery?

How could this happen when Washington has thrown trillions of dollars into the pot, including the famous $787 billion in stimulus spending that was supposed to yield $1.50 in growth for every dollar spent? For a start, too much of the money went to transfer payments such as Medicaid, jobless benefits and the like that do nothing for jobs and growth. (WSJ)

The Stimulus money went to states to help pad their pensions for government unions and their budget shortfalls. These were the “saved or created” jobs. They weren’t new. They were his apparatchiks.

And that’s all that really matters in the end. 🙂

President Barack Obama will make a push for more transportation spending on Wednesday. (“Infrastructure”=Spending!)

The White House says Obama will urge Congress to pass a federal highway bill that he says will protect about 1 million jobs. (Should I laugh now or later? Bet they last just long enough to be useful to his re-election campaign…)

At issue is the renewal of a transportation spending bill that expires Sept. 30. The House is considering a six-year, $230 billion bill paid entirely with current fuel taxes. The Senate proposal would last only two years and cost $109 billion.

OBAMACARE

2 years ago we were still in the fight. It’s what got me in the fight.

2 years later, we have 10% of all companies saying they will dump their health care plans when ObamaCare is fully implemented. We have 46% of Doctors threatening to retire. We have huge raises in costs.

We have over 1700 waivers to Obama’s friends and supporters in Unions and businesses he deems necessary to him politically.

If you like your health care you can keep it, the President said then. By now you know that was a lie.

And where are the 4 Million Jobs Nancy Pelosi said would be created by ObamaCare?

And how was it going to lower the deficit again?

Ezra Klein, he of recent “the Constitution’s old, and stuff” fame, is one of the great and most persuasive cheerleaders for the belief that Republicans cannot repeal Obamacare and remain fiscally responsible since — as everybody knows! — Obamacare reduces the national debt by $100 billion over the next ten years.

March 2010: In explicit contradiction to the establishment media’s reporting over the past two days, the CBO has in fact reported that the Obamacare bill will result in an increase in the deficit spending of the United States by at least $109 billion over the next 10 years. Instead of reporting this indisputable fact, the media has been pushing the Obama and Democrat line that Obamacare will “save” $138 billion over the next 10 years in deficit spending versus present projections as if it was the gospel truth.

And what about that gleeful approval and wonderment from the masses the Obama Nannies were expecting: 2 years ago the Disapproval was 52% now it’s 61% (with independents like me its 67%)

57% favor repeal.

But, as you should know by know, the Democrats don’t care. They didn’t care then and they don’t care now. They’ve been salivating about this since Woodrow Wilson and now that they have their golden baby they will fight to the very last drop of your blood to keep it.

They don’t care what you think. And isn’t that real problem with Obama and the Democrats? 🙂

There are also many things that Americans don’t want out of health care reform: the loss of their health care plans; reductions in medical innovation; a decline in the quality of care; massive increases in federal spending and debt; the government injecting itself into the doctor-patient relationship; eventual federal rationing. And that’s if you can find a doctor to go to, after all, many,many doctors have said if ObamaCare is fully implemented they’ll just retire. Leaving a massive shortage of doctors with 30 million new patients.

And you like you’re health care and want to keep it–Good Luck, you’ll need it!

Sounds like a good plan, doesn’t it! 🙂

The scandal itself hadn’t broken yet but two years later the broken movement is still trying to convince you. And, Like Al Gore, recently has decided to take the Democrats tactics on board. Now, if you don’t believe in “Climate Change” you’re a racist!

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of American Adults shows that 69% say it’s at least somewhat likely that some scientists have falsified research data in order to support their own theories and beliefs, including 40% who say this is Very Likely. Twenty-two percent (22%) don’t think it’s likely some scientists have falsified global warming data, including just six percent (6%) say it’s Not At All Likely. Another 10% are undecided.

The number of adults who say it’s likely scientists have falsified data is up 10 points from December 2009 .

Now that’s progress! 🙂

2011: Experiments performed by a European nuclear research group indicate that the sun, not man, determines Earth’s temperature.

Its magnetic field acts as a gateway for cosmic rays, which play a large role in cloud formation.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

2009: The President said then that comprehensive immigration legislation, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year in office. Latino voters turned out strongly for Mr. Obama in the election.

“He intends to start the debate this year,” Ms. Muñoz (deputy assistant) said.

2 years later, unable to convince anyone and not really trying all that hard, he grants  de-facto amnesty to millions by executive fiat and a Justice Department that refuses to do anything about Illegals in reality.

But the president has had two cousins arrested in this country as illegals though, so it’s not like he’s immune to the problem. 🙂

He’s too busy pandering for votes to care.

So you have a President when he doesn’t get his way tries to figure out how he can use his own power to get it done regardless of the people or the legislative process.

Dictator anyone?

P.s. The Obama administration is considering unveiling new plans next week to revive the ailing housing market and reduce foreclosures, including an effort to help troubled borrowers refinance their mortgages.

The refinancing initiative would allow certain borrowers to refinance loans that are backed by government-owned Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac or the Federal Housing Administration, the sources said.

You know, the guys who keep borrowing billions of dollars because they are so bankrupt already and are in large part part of the problem not part of the solution.

The White House has kept the specifics of the refinancing plan closely guarded as it attempts to work out the details.

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid!

Oh, and it’s going to cost taxpayers even more money.

So MORE SPENDING.

Happy New Year, New Congress: Be Prepared to be Electrocuted or Go Home

What I don’t want to see in the new Congress: Partisan Mudfights.

As fun as it may be to just all Terminator on the Obama administration with investigations all that does is sink to the Democrats level of partisanship, aka investigate Bush for everything and anything no matter how outlandish or insane not caring about anything other than “Gotcha!” politics.

We don’t need that now. We need Leadership. Not a Partisan driven Gotcha.

Spending. Congress has, by constitutional right, the power of the purse strings. The new Congress must use this power to slash spending to the pre-meltdown, pre-stimulus levels of 2007. Federal spending today is over 25% of GDP — nearly a quarter above its historic average. The Democrat-led 111th Congress added $3.2 trillion to the national debt, the most in history.

With an estimated $10 trillion in debt expected over the next decade from current programs, and a wave of spending coming to take care of the tidal wave of baby boomers who’ll be retiring at the rate of 10,000 a day the next couple of decades, government better stop spending now — or go bankrupt.

Period. End of Story!

Within 5 years, just 5 years, the INTEREST on the National Credit Card will be more than we spend on the Military, it will be so massive that it will be the single largest expenditure we have as a nation.

That is unsustainable. It must stop. Period!

Today the top-earning 5% of taxpayers — having incomes over $159,619 (well below “the Rich” of 250,000 )— earn 35% of the nation’s income, but pay 60% of individual income taxes. This is unfair and inefficient, with estimates of as much as a $150 billion reduction in GDP each year.

“The Rich” the liberals are so obsessed with pay nearly 1/2 of all taxes but have the highest taxes. And you want to screw them even more and expect to them to love you and kiss you and roll over and play dead marxist??

I don’t think so. Grow up!

Life isn’t fair.

And the debt wracked by the government and the people is real and only the government and the people can stop it.

Now!

ObamaCare. Because you don’t have the Senate and the President you won’t be able to repeal it. You must slow it down though and get rid of some of the most onerous things if you can.

Personally I think the liberals will fight to your death for this Golden Goose Egg of Socialism.

They don’t care that it actually hurts people. They just don’t care.

So we have to cut spending.

Real Cuts.

Painful Cuts.

Not just politically correct show-off cuts that don’t mean anything in the long run.

We’re talking Entitlements. The lightning rod of politics.

Prepare to be electrocuted or go home.

The Republican House and the 47 GOP senators should nonetheless reintroduce the topic into the debate, even pass a bill in the House. They should also promote market improvements of Medicare. The public needs to understand why this is necessary — and why the Democrats’ inevitable resistance puts our nation at risk.

The GOP must be careful, though, of accepting a “bipartisan compromise” that perpetuates the worst features of the current system. With a $107 trillion deficit expected over the long term, the two entitlement programs must be overhauled. There’s no choice.

It’s the 20,000 lib Gorrila on steroids that is guarded by an Imperial Starfleet of Unions, Democrats and the Not-In-My-Backpocket Scare tactics that must be taken down or else it’s over, it’s all over.

Too bad if you don’t like it. Too bad if you don’t want to.

The truth is the truth, deal with it. You don’t have to like it, you’d don’t have to approve.

It’s very bad medicine that you have to swallow or else.

No option.

Except complete and utter failure of everything.

No pressure.

Congress needs to refocus the Fed on what it does best: keep inflation under control and help oversee the commercial banks. Most important, any reforms must keep the central bank’s political independence — which studies show is what makes a central bank most effective.

Pumping money we don’t have into a broken economy is not making it better.

Keynesian Economics DOES NOT WORK! Period. End of story.

Sorry, Liberals, Life just isn’t fair and it never will be. Get over it!

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. One of the great disgraces of the 111th Congress was the passage of a financial overhaul bill that left the two main causes of our financial meltdown untouched. At one point, Fannie and Freddie controlled half the $13 trillion U.S. mortgage market.

For years, Congress and presidents alike have used the two to subsidize cheap home loans to undeserving borrowers to garner votes and boost the U.S. homeownership rate. The two have already cost U.S. taxpayers $135 billion, but may end up costing as much as $700 billion, estimates show. Republicans can rectify this by holding new hearings, then privatizing them or shutting them down.

Fannie & Freddie must die so that we may live. Period.

TSA reform. The Transportation Security Agency is out of control. As agents make X-rated X-rays of passengers and grope their private parts, screeners continue to let guns, knives, explosives and bomb parts sift through the security line.

Meanwhile, Israel’s El Al, considered the world’s most secure airline, has a different strategy. Wisely disregarding political correctness, it uses ethnic profiling and asks passengers inconvenient questions. How about changing strategy here and considering the Israeli model? Our lawmakers need to have the courage to take the lead on making our skies safer and air travel less stressful.

Yes, folks, RACIAL PROFILING!

Net neutrality. The Federal Communications Commission, saying it wants to establish a free and open Internet, has voted to impose regulations on the Web. But far from freeing the Web and making it more wide open, net neutrality rules give Washington the power to determine how Internet service providers handle the traffic that flows over their infrastructure.

The Liberals need to have government run everything in your life from birth to death (and beyond with the Death Taxes) has got to be stopped.

And something that is nearly extinct in this culture as a whole must come back:

Personal Responsibility!

When you screw up it’s YOUR FAULT and YOUR CONSEQUENCES and you have to live with the CONSEQUENCES of YOUR OWN ACTIONS!

Immigration. With 20 million illegal immigrants, Congress must work to ensure that immigration is about rule of law, not ethnic grievance politics. Full funding for the border fence is a must to ensure that U.S. agents, not Mexican cartels, control the border. Congress must end the current White House policy of cherry-picking criminal cases, but ignoring others.

Also, legal immigration to the U.S. must be made speedier and less costly. Legal immigrants wait in long lines and pay an average $6,000 to enter legally. One idea: an express lane for those with education and training who can fit into our economy right away.

SECURE THE BORDER. Then we’ll talk. The End.

According to the Small Business Administration, red tape costs the economy $1.75 trillion each year — more than the GDP of Canada and equal to all corporate profits. It also adds up to $15,000 per household.

And with the 2nd highest Corporate Tax in the world, and the economic turmoil CREATED by liberals we aren’t attractive to even businesses in THIS country let alone another.

This has to stop.

The Liberals need to grow up.

That’s nearly nearly impossible, so we have to go around them and prove it can work.

The time For Childishness and liberal dreams of social and economic “equality” for all are over.

Federal regulations go on for 70,000 pages. Under Obama, regulatory bureaucrats are drawing more power. The EPA, FCC and FDA, to name just a few, are issuing sweeping new rules for us to live under. Enough.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The drug binges have to stop now or the patient dies.

The infrastructure investments are one part of a package of targeted proposals the White House is expected to announce in hopes of jump-starting the economy ahead of the November election. Obama will outline the infrastructure proposal Monday at a Labor Day event in Milwaukee.

While the proposal calls for investments over six years, the White House said spending would be front-loaded with an initial $50 billion to help create jobs in the near future.

The goals of the infrastructure plan include: rebuilding 150,000 miles of roads; constructing and maintaining 4,000 miles of railways, enough to go coast-to-coast; and rehabilitating or reconstructing 150 miles of airport runways, while also installing a new air navigation system designed to reduce travel times and delays.

Obama will also call for the creation of a permanent infrastructure bank that would focus on funding national and regional infrastructure projects.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this new “stimulus” that can’t be called “stimulus” sound amazingly similar to the one that has already failed miserably?

Officials said this infrastructure package differs from the stimulus because it’s aimed at long-term growth, while still focusing on creating jobs in the short-term.

Wary of the public’s concern over rising deficits, the administration insists a second stimulus plan, similar to last year’s $814 billion bill, is not in the works.

It just sounds like it. 🙂

But if we change the name in a very Orwellian fashion this failed duck is not a duck so this stimulus is not a stimulus. 🙂

And a permanent Bank of The United States to boot. A new cash cow. After all, who could be against an “infrastructure” bank?

LET THEM EAT CREDIT!

It’s interesting why behavior that we readily recognize, on an individual level, as undesirable, we routinely promote and accept as government and social policy.

What rational person would suggest that being detached from reality is a good thing?

Or what rational person does not want good information when making important decisions?

But increasingly we live in an environment, created by government driven policies, in which the picture of reality we have is false, and the information available to us for making routine decisions is distorted.

University of Chicago economist Raghuram Rajan demonstrates this problem in what he calls “let them eat credit.”

According to Rajan, we have a big problem at the lower end of our income spectrum. Low end incomes not only are languishing, but adjusted for inflation, are dropping. From 2002 to 2008, real wages for the top ten percent of earners increased, but for everyone else they dropped.

What to do?

Rajan points out that the real culprit is education. As the economy gets increasingly sophisticated, the penalty for lack of education gets greater. But we’re failing to deliver this needed education to lower income Americans.

Core to the problem, Rajan argues, is that politicians are more interested in being popular than solving problems. They’d rather offer free money in the form of subsidies and easy credit to low wage earners than take on real problems.

Programs like subsidized mortgages, which contributed much to the housing bubble, make life look artificially cheap and reduce the sense of immediacy regarding the need to get educated.

The rate of U.S. home ownership increased from 1995 to 2005 from 65% to 69%. Over the same period of time home prices doubled, before everything fell apart.

As reported by Peter Wallison of the American Enterprise Institute, in 1992 government backed lending enterprises, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, were directed to “promote affordable housing” and to do this by enabling down payments of less than 5% and approving credit for borrowers with shaky credit history.

Through the 1990s and 2000s HUD continued to push Fannie and Freddie to relax standards, requiring them, according to Wallison, “to buy increasing numbers of subprime and other risky mortgages.”

The faulty assumption behind all this, which we’ve learned the hard way, is that politicians think they can use taxpayers and the money printing press as a bottomless pit of funds to promote government schemes.

Many low income families, bought homes they couldn’t afford. Not just because of lying mortgage brokers, but because the whole artificial reality that distorted prices and credit was created by government policy. (Now the Government owns 80% of Fannie & Freddie and around 70-80% of all mortgages are written under Fannie and Freddie  so has anything been learned or are we just insane?)

It’s hard to find a place to turn where we don’t deal with a reality distorted by government.

We’re all concerned about runaway costs of health care and health insurance. What’s behind it?

In 1960, 50% of our health expenditures were out of pocket and 50% were OPM (Other People’s Money – Insurance, Employers, Government).

Today, 12% of our health care expenditures are out of pocket and 88% are Other People’s Money.

So what was the solution: National Health Care! Health Care run by the Government! 😦

According to Harvard economist Robert Barro, the current persistent high unemployment rate, helping drag out this recession, is traceable to the unprecedented extension of unemployment benefits from the normal 26 weeks to almost two years. The argument that we are currently in unchartered territory and must do the unusual is not true.

Barro points out that unemployment in the 1982 recession reached 10.8% – higher than today.

The perhaps not so funny joke that neurotics build castles in the air and psychotics move into them is worth thinking about.

The ability to succeed is predicated on both freedom and having good information on which to make decisions.

As we distort, through government policies, reality around us, and citizens increasingly get bad information for matters about which they have important decisions to make, we’re not going to recover. (Star Parker)

I think one could argue, successfully, that Government, especially this one, is not interested in recovery- not really.

Because recovery means less people dependent on them.

Sure they want to appear to give a crap because appearing not to or looking like you’re failing is also not desired.

So you have to look and sound like you’re succeeding and give every that false sense of reality that works for you.

Reality is an overrated and under-appreciated, well, reality. 🙂

One Question: Hows that “War on Poverty” that was started over 40 years ago going exactly? Won yet? 🙂
