Labor Day

Economic Illiteracy: With last week’s one-day strike, fast-food workers sent a clear message: They want the minimum wage raised from $7.25 an hour to $15. But they should be careful what they wish for; they just might get it.

It isn’t hard to see what a doubling of the minimum wage would do in an industry that pays out an estimated 70% of revenue to workers: Hundreds of thousands would lose their jobs overnight.

They don’t see that. They are blind to it. All they see are people, specifically CEOs who make “millions” and bosses who get “rich” so they want their “fair” share of it. They have no understanding of economics. They understand things on child’s level- They want that toy and they want it now! And if they don’t get it they will cry and bawl until someone gives in.

And when the McDonald hamburger now cost $10.00 because of the labor cost increases and the restaurant they are working at goes down in flames, they will still blame “the CEOs” for being too greedy.

It’s what I have called “Unenlightened Narcissism” and the real problem is that THEY DON’T WANT TO BE ENLIGHTENED!

They will resist any attempt to enlighten them as trying to corrupt or trick them.

So I say just fire their asses and move on. You can’t save everyone from themselves.

The average fast-food employee makes $8.94 an hour, according to the National Employment Law Project. Unions and workers want to boost that to $15 an hour. Fine, except most who now earn $9 an hour are young with little education and few skills. To be blunt, they’re not worth the extra money. They’ll be fired.

So who will do their jobs, you ask. A more apt question is what will do their jobs. Because they may go to robots. Or computers. Don’t laugh. When labor costs rise, technological substitutions suddenly make economic sense.

It’s already happening in Europe, where it costs a lot to hire a worker, McDonald’s has installed 7,000 new ATM-style machines that take orders and payments. No muss, no fuss, no arguments, no misunderstandings — and no minimum wage at all. Just a one-time cost for the machine, plus maintenance.

To the point:

With a beep, a buzz and a whir — and maybe even a little sizzle — the world’s first fully-automatic hamburger machine can prepare, cook and serve a perfect custom-made burger without a single human hand being involved.

A San Francisco startup is taking the Silicon Valley attitude into the fast food market and hoping to revolutionize what they call “the most labour intensive industry in the country.”

Featuring glass tubes filled with lettuce and tomatoes, a meat-grinder, bun slicer, oven and bagger, the alpha machine is part Rube Goldberg, part Jetsons and promises to be the first step in burger evolution since McDonald’s proliferated around the world.

It can produce a custom-made, freshly ground burger, baked to order at a rate of 400 per hour. The machine will add the requested toppings, slicing tomatoes directly onto the burger, and pop out a neatly-wrapped sandwich ready for human consumption.

The makers, Momentum Machines, claim that their invention “does everything employees can do except better.”

The oven employs “gourmet cooking techniques never before used in a fast-food restaurant, giving the patty the perfect char but keeping in all the juices,” according their website.

“It’s more consistent, more sanitary,” and the company claims, “the labour savings allow a restaurant to spend approximately twice as much on high quality ingredients.”

Momentum is planning on demonstrating their invention in a soon to be opened restaurant in San Francisco before franchising it out to any restaurant, convenience store, food truck — or potentially even vending machine — that wants it.

As for all those grill tenders and line cooks made obsolete by the contraption, Momentum offers discounted technical training and says that the money saved on labour will be recycled into restaurant expansion and new job creation.

Plus, according to the website, “the general public saves money on the reduced cost of our burgers. This saved money can then be spent on the rest of the economy.”

It’s a delicious win-win. (The Star)

As ObamaCare raises the cost of labor for fast-food chains, and with talk of a doubling of wages, look for the same equipment to be used here too. And it won’t just be ATMs.

Momentum Machines, a San Francisco-based high-tech company, has created the Alpha, a robot that can make up to 360 hamburgers in an hour — and pays for itself in a year.

(see above) 🙂

Left-wing talking heads in the media counter that McDonald’s or Burger King or Taco Bell or whoever could simply take money “out of profits.” But this defies all understanding of economics.

But it fits with the narcissism of the Left and it also is perfect bait for the unenlightened.

First, 80% of McDonald’s outlets are franchises, owned by a person who pays royalties for the right to run a burger restaurant. These people do not have massive profit margins. If costs rise, they’ll fire people.

But the Left doesn’t care about that. It’s relevant to the Agenda.

Besides, they’ll view mass layoffs as a a sign of “corporate greed”. At least that’s what they will tell the unenlightened en masse.

Even if you did shrink profits, who would that hurt? The middle class, that’s who. Their 401(k)s and IRAs are loaded to the gunwales with fast-food shares. And when they go out to eat, they’ll pay higher prices.

But that will be corporations fault, according to the Left. 🙂

Workers need to get real: If you’re not worth $15 an hour, a robot may take your place. And it won’t strike. (IBD)

But reality is the last thing the Left can contemplate. Fear, Hatred, anxiety, stress, these are the things that make most Liberal “leaders” happy.

A stressed out, economically tapped out, hate-filled constituency will Vote for them and demand more control, time and again,  and they will fill their kids with the same hatred and fear!

What could be better! 🙂

Only The Politically Correct Job Will Do

It’s January. It’s time for Obama to have that “laser like focus” on Jobs for his big speech, then he can go off and do something else for the rest of the year, like focus on his re-election because ,after all, that’s the most important thing in the universe to him.

But this year, it’s different.

Not because of the Republican House. No, no that, silly.

Not Because of over 9% unemployment for more than a year and not expected to be go any lower than 8% by his re-election.

Nope, not that either.

It’s the kind of job created. It has to be a feel good liberal “green” job or nothing.

So let’s hire and puff up the Chairman of a struggling company who has laid off 10’s of thousands of people, got a huge government bailout by morphing into a  “bank”. He’s a close friend and ally and it makes me look more “pro-business” than I am.

He also will stand to benefit from the end of Thomas Edison Incandescent Light bulb (see: https://indyfromaz.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/the-light/).

He’s a big Defense Contractor.

He has a web of TV networks now 49% owned by his company because Comcast took over the reins of the majority. But still there…

Meet Jeffrey Immelt, The Chairman of General Electric.

Soon to be Government Electric.

And oh, look, gas Prices are expected to hit $5 a gallon  (partially because of Obama’s crushing of the Oil Industry) and Government Motors (GM) has a fake electric car that they will gladly sell you (or you can buy a legitimate one from the Japanese!-funny that)

Oh, and the charging stations for that car, by GE.

Gee, isn’t that a coincidence!!! 🙂

So, you see, Obama wants to promote job growth for his re-election. But he only wants the kind of job that suits the Left.

You must have a Politically Correct Job, or you can just stay on unemployment for 99 weeks.

Hu Cares. 🙂

Especially if you graduate from college with a “green” education and there’s no job for you.

But hey, you have ObamaCare. You can suck off your parents Health Care until you’re 26 and unemployment for 3 years.

Isn’t life grand!

Rick Manning from Americans for Limited Government told TheDC that if the Obama administration was serious about job creation, it would loosen the restrictions its agencies and administrations have on the private sector energy companies.

“If this administration wanted to jump employment, they could re-open drilling, end the EPAs attack on the Texas oil refineries, and stop killing jobs in the coal sector, and millions of jobs would be created,” Manning said in an e-mail.

These “renewable energy” programs are not sustainable industry drivers though, because they start falling apart once the government funding dries up. (Daily Caller)

So, cue GE. Sorta.

Immelt actually eliminated 18,000 GE jobs in 2009, despite receiving untold millions in government stimulus and subsidies — like $60 million to build a “technology center” (office building?) in Michigan and $55 million to build a hybrid locomotive battery plant in New York.

As to competitiveness, consider the rather tawdry August 2009 e-mail solicitation of GE employees by GE’s political action committee (GEPAC), which read in part:

“The intersection between GE’s interests and government action is clearer than ever. GEPAC is an important tool that enables GE employees to collectively help support candidates who share the values and goals of GE. … We have made great strides toward convincing key lawmakers that GE Capital should remain a part of (GE). … On climate change, we were able to work closely with key authors of the Waxman-Markey climate and energy bill. . .. (It) would benefit many GE businesses. … GE is working relentlessly to ensure funding for F136 Engine, which is a critically important program for GE Aviation.”

One hundred years ago, Thomas Edison innovated to earn profit for GE.

Now Jeff Immelt lobbies for profit because there is no market for failed businesses, higher energy prices and duplicative military hardware.

That GE is so dependent on government largesse should raise the specter of Immelt’s obvious conflict of interest. Will he advise the president on what’s good for America or what’s good for GE?

The Obama-Immelt partnership is best envisioned as two drowning men clinging to each other in order to stay afloat. The failed CEO needs the president’s central planning policies and favor to keep his job. The struggling politician needs the mega-company CEO to camouflage and smooth over his anti-business beliefs and tendencies.

This symbiotic relationship may work out for Obama and Immelt as individuals, but we ought not hold our collective breath waiting for two men without track records of nonpersonal success to create jobs, increase our competitiveness or to fix what’s ailing our troubled economy. (IBD)

But don’t worry, Barack is on it, “focused like a laser beam”. Until February when his interests will wonder off like they have the last 2 years.

Time to spend more time in Chicago with the machine (and the hopefully new Mayor- his pal Rahm) raising more $$$ than he did last time (the most in history) so he can crush his opponents into dust with 24/7 attack ads and GE’s NBC and it’s affiliates coming along for the slobbering love affair that they already had.

And pushing his agenda through regulations rather than legislation. Much easier and much more productive for his Agenda.

EPA anyone.

This administration isn’t just attempting to regulate what it can’t legislate; it is in open rebellion against the idea of representative government. This administration’s reckless, politically motivated response to the oil spill has crippled offshore drilling, destroyed jobs and undercut economic recovery. Today’s regulatory uncertainty leaves permitting for offshore energy exploration at a virtual standstill.

This administration also continues to twist the Clean Air Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Endangered Species Act into a back door cap-and-trade program. Cap-and-trade’s job-crushing mandates couldn’t even pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate, and it shouldn’t be pushed by Washington regulators. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in particular has a history of pushing through regulations that defy the will of the American people.

This kind of Washington overreach destroys jobs, drives up gas prices and raises the cost of energy. Getting rid of these policies is only the first step on the road to regulatory reform.

The president should also take a second look at the thousands of unnecessary new rules that were part of last year’s job-crushing health spending law. He also should reconsider older regulations whose effects have been just as damaging. Nearly two decades ago, President Clinton said “the era of big government is over.”

Somehow, Washington still hasn’t gotten the message.

In his op-ed, the president wrote that he wants to eliminate “absurd and unnecessary paperwork requirements that waste time and money.” He might as well have been talking about one of the worst provisions in his own new health spending law.

This provision requires business owners to submit individual 1099 reporting forms for each business-to-business transaction of more than $600 a year. This is the definition of an “absurd and unnecessary paperwork requirement,” and the president should stop it before it has a chance to do more damage to the economy.

The president has promised to stop imposing “burdens that have stifled innovation and have had a chilling effect on growth and jobs.” I hope he is prepared to be held to account. (IBD)

But we know the answer already, don’t we.

It’s time for Obama to be distracted by a new shiny object and wonder off to collect money for his Re-Coronation in 2012.

And the peasants are left with their crust of bread, underwater mortgage, $5 a gallon gas, inflated prices for goods and rampant unemployment.

They just have to wait for the touchy-feely “green” jobs to magically appear and save us all.

But if you try to repeal job killing ObamaCare, the Universe will come to an end!

Welcome to the 2012 election cycle.

Hu Dat?

Chinese President Hu Jintao emphasized the need for cooperation with the U.S. in areas from new energy to space ahead of his visit to Washington this week, but he called the present U.S. dollar-dominated currency system a “product of the past” and highlighted moves to turn the yuan into a global currency.

The Chinese pouch our industrial base because Liberals hate business and make regulations, ObamaCare, and are just generally hostile to business so they go to China to compete in the world economy and they get it from the Chinese too, but they can’t come back because the Liberals will just sack them if they do.

The “soak the rich”, “CEO’s are evil”, “Corporate fascism” of the Left has consequences.

Class Warfare has consequences.

So China has our debt. Our Industrial Base. And now they want to be the big Dog.

And what will President Obama do about it?

Likely bow and apologize and grovel. Be “reasonable”.

We aren’t any better than them, we are all equal.

I guarantee the Chinese don’t think so.

On the economic front, Mr. Hu played down one of the main U.S. arguments for why China should appreciate its currency—that it will help China tame inflation. That is likely to disappoint Washington, which accuses China of unfairly boosting its exports by undervaluing the yuan, making its products cheaper overseas. The topic is expected to be high on U.S. President Barack Obama’s agenda when he meets Mr. Hu at the White House on Wednesday.

They are the barbarian hordes who have come in an sacked the over-bloated, decadent, Roman Empire – US.

Mr. Hu’s responses reflect a China that has grown more confident in recent years—especially in the wake of the global financial crisis, from which it emerged relatively unscathed.

They don’t respect us. They just see us as the big target to pick off and if they can get others to value the Yuan over the Dollar as the universal currency stick a fork in US we’re done.

So what will the Liberals do about it?

Nothing. Why would they? We are no better than than them. They are no better than us. We aren’t special. We ARE Greedy. And Corporate America is EVIL.

We deserve it.

The Chinese are Wal-Marting us. They deliberately undersell to drive the smaller competition away (in this case to China, India — anywhere but here!).

He called for an international financial system that is more “fair, just, inclusive and well-managed.”

Sound like a Liberal does it?

Sound like we can do it better because we are smarter-than-you Liberalism?

Fascinating isn’t it?

“The current international currency system is the product of the past,” he said, noting the primacy of the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency and its use in international trade and investment. (WSJ)

Add to that 70%+ of our Oil comes from people who want us dead. And what is the Liberal response?

Oil Moratoriums, Drilling Bans, and State Park set-asides that prevent US from supplying our own oil.

After all, Oil is EVIL!

So the Liberals turn to their “feel good” ‘green jobs’.

The Department of Labor has issued several million dollars in grants to community colleges and specialized universities around the country to train students for “green jobs” in renewable energy fields. While the grants are supposed to fund the future “rank and file” workers of the renewable energy industry, there’s a glaring problem the DOL seemingly overlooked — those jobs are either non-existent or scarce.

A former college official who has applied for these grants and has in-depth experience working with the Department of Labor and the Department of Education told The Daily Caller that colleges will often fudge expected job placement numbers just to get extra government cash.

“On ground level – it’s a real struggle – my grant writers came to me and honestly said, ‘I don’t have any job projections, what do I tell them?’ You do your best to make up job numbers,” said the former college official, who wished to remain anonymous to prevent jeopardizing future job opportunities. “But it’s not like lying – it’s just guessing what we might be able to do in a best case scenario, but you don’t say it’s not likely for many jobs.”

The former college official told TheDC that, though his college received five different “green jobs” grants from the Department of Labor to train students, no program has been set up yet.

They’re being given to universities and community colleges to train students in technical or associate degree programs to work in yet-to-be-developed fields. Many of the grants are promised to colleges that pledged to push “green jobs” or “new energy technology,” but don’t go into much more detail about how they plan to go about doing that.

That’s ok, when they graduate with their head full of liberal ‘green’ mush they can stay on unemployment for 99 weeks. Stay on their parent insurance dole until 26. And then apply for welfare from the state because they can’t find a job and blame it all on evil Corporate America!

But they will have Obamacare!

Or they could go to China and get a job there. 🙂

So what, it “feels good”!! And it’s not evil Corporate America!!

But even plants that make solar panels (see – http://blogs.forbes.com/williampentland/2011/01/17/u-s-solar-manufacturer-to-u-s-taxpayers-drop-dead-2/?boxes=financechannelforbes) move to China to compete.

“Solar manufacturers in China have received considerable government and financial support and, together with their low manufacturing costs, have become price leaders within the industry,” said Michael El-Hillow, President and Chief Executive Officer, about the company’s decision. “While the United States and other western industrial economies are beneficiaries of rapidly declining installation costs of solar energy, we expect the United States will continue to be at a disadvantage from a manufacturing standpoint . . . Although production costs at our Devens facility have steadily decreased, and are now below originally planned levels and lower than most western manufacturers, they are still much higher than those of our low cost competitors in China.”

After all, the Chinese have the world’s largest collection of solar panel manufacturers. 🙂

So China is making our Over-expensive, not-yet proven-to-be-efficient wave of the future hippie-liberal ‘green tech’  and our “green jobs”.

Talk about “shovel ready”.

They are just Chinese shovels!!

So we have very little industrial base. We have little domestic oil and energy production and our own companies leave because they can’t be competitive here.

Thank you, Class Warfare and Environmentalist  Whacko Liberals!

Mad yet?

You should be.

But don’t tell the Liberals, they will just have go off in a fit of rage and burst a few blood vessels and have a conniption about the evils of Corporate America, Oil, Wal-Mart, and Big Oil!

They’ll even foam at the mouth and spit poison! 🙂

But don’t worry, The Chinese will undoubtely come up with a cheaper solution for that too.

Just as the Visigoths did. But the big difference is that the Liberals will be handing out the torches!

After all, it’s George W. Bush’s, Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Republicans, “The Rich”, Conservative’s  Fault! 🙂

Follow The Agenda

Remember, long ago in the very distant past of 2008 when $100+ per gallon gas was the fault of rich Oil men like President Bush and Evil CEO’s??

It was all the Republicans fault. As a commenter on a Huffington Post article about the “Bush Legacy” of  High Oil Prices put it “George Bush is from Texas, and has friends (campaign contributers) in the oil industry. Dick Cheney is from Wyoming, where he lobbied for the oil and coal business. Cheney was CEO of Halliburton which sells equipment to the oil business. While they’ve been in power the price of crude oil has quadrupled. Follow the money.” which is very typical Liberal socialist diatribe.

Well, it’s BACK! And not an evil Oil President in sight. But I’m sure it’s still his fault anyhow.

Today, Reuters: “OPEC will only have an extraordinary meeting if oil prices exceed $100 and stay there. We don’t want the market to panic,” the delegate told Reuters.

So Fast forward to today in the Huffington Post reader comments:

“Of course Big Oil, energy, and the insurance industry will continue to raise prices. The plan is to make sure that middle class American’s have very little disposable income. What people don’t pay in taxes, they must pay over to corporate monopolies in the form of inflated prices. Reducing taxes kills the middle class because it destroys the ability of a “United People” to combat the tyranny of corporate fascism.”

Nothings changed.

Only, everything has, but the Liberals are still too obsessed with their Class Warfare Agenda and “green” to see it.

Political Cartoon

The prospect of oil breaking $100 a barrel, last touched in October 2008 after Lehman Brothers collapsed, has raised alarm bells about the impact of fuel costs on the economic recovery.

Obama almost secretly “allowed” some oil companies to start drilling again 6 months AFTER the Oil spill was plugged. Even though a Federal Judge said the Moratorium was illegal they went and did it again anyhow.

The Media just tried to ignore it.

After all, they have to prop up GM’s sales of the fake electric car, The Chevy Volt. I had a few choice words to say on it : https://indyfromaz.wordpress.com/2010/10/20/revolt-ting/

Especially in light of the news about the GM (Government Motors) bail out.

You know the one where the spin is that GM paid it all back and bail outs do work…

The Congressional Oversight Panel reported Thursday that by selling 45% of the stock it had in GM, Washington has “‘locked in’ a loss of billions of dollars and thus greatly reduced the likelihood that taxpayers will ever be repaid in full.”

Bailout defenders had thought that GM’s IPO would show critics that the government could make money on the bailout. But when “Treasury received a price of $33 per share,” it sold “well below the $44.59 needed to be on track to recover fully taxpayers money.”

That seems clear enough. But those justifying the bailout will ignore taxpayers’ losses and focus instead on the panel’s statement that the aided companies are “on the path to financial stability.”

Set your media on SPIN!

But then again, that’s what Liberals want.

You out of that gus-guzzling, Oil-loving, Class Warfare, infernal-combustion, global warming evil machine of death!

They want you to drive an electric car (even a fake one) or nothing.

The fact that petroleum is used in thousands of products besides gasoline, including the trucks and trains that are hauling freight all over the country is completely outside of their Agenda so it’s immaterial.

That orange had to be shipped into your grocery store from somewhere.

But The Agenda is The Agenda.

We all have to have solar panels, wind farms, electric cars and organic food.

The costs of this are immaterial. It “feels good”.

It’s 60’s hippie marijuana-toking stupidity, but  it “feels good”.

And liberals blindness is only 1/2 the problem.

The other one is China and India.

You see, one of the main reasons for the Oil Prices is them.

It’s called Demand. As in Supply and Demand.

That principle of economics Liberals only understand when it suits their Agenda and ignore otherwise.

They have a huge demand. They can pay for it (largely with our debt) so why not sell it to them instead.

With fierce global competiton and  state-run monopolies in Venezuela and China squeezing out Western energy giants, the bottom line is that cheap oil – and subsequently cheap gasoline – just doesn’t work out on the balance sheets of big oil.

At the same time, U.S. commercial oil supplies fell 1.2% to 335.3 million barrels last week. (Investor Place)

They have other customers and bigger costs. And those “western Energy Giants” at least in this country are hobbled by an Administration that is vehemently hostile to them.

So even if we produced more it would help like it did in “the old days”.

But ignoring the problem and sticking your head in the “green” sand also isn’t going to help.

“Green” tech is not economical as of yet, so relying on it, praying for it, waving 60’s peace and love over it isn’t the answer right now.

But that’s the Agenda. And The Agenda is The Agenda.

So expensive gas suits The Agenda.

And that is George W Bush and Big Oil’s Fault! 🙂

Especially as austerity is slapping us in the face.

For Jan 1, 2011 10,000 Baby Boomers EVERY DAY will be retiring for the next 20 years!!

And they want their government money and they want it NOW! (and ObamaCare).

The more we can produce for our own the better we will be for our own sake.

And being responsible for our own is important.

But The Agenda is more important!

In 2008 High Oil Prices worked for them because it was good for demonizing Bush and Big Oil, now it works for their “green” Agenda.

Either way, we all get tarred!

The Apple of Capitalism

From TIME Magazine Online:

“Mama,” my young son informed me yesterday, “I know how you can sneak an explosive onto an airplane.”
It was the kind of overconfident declarative that makes a parent sit up and take notice. I did both. “You put it in the front of your underwear,” continued Aviv, who turns 8 this week, “because they don’t touch you there.”

Out of the mouth of Babes! 🙂

Hey Janet, time for a bit more Sexual Molestation. Go for the Full MONTY!

If an 8 year old can figure it out then surely you can. 🙂

**********************************

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

On those rare occasions when it’s not demonizing businesses as bastions of corporate greed, the White House and all its supporting players spend their time pondering why U.S. businesses, with mountains of cash, won’t use at least some of it to hire workers. A mere 900,000 jobs were created in 2010, while U.S. companies sat on $1.1 trillion in cash.

Last week, President Obama went so far as to meet with 20 CEOs for several hours over this, “asking the attendees to dialogue with him on a shared agenda focused on moving our economy forward,” according to a White House statement.

We don’t have any inside lines as to what was said, but news is trickling out the Obama administration is starting to think about doing something big to end the jobs drought in the U.S.

The something big would be to lower the U.S. corporate tax, which at 35%, stands as the second-highest in the developed world. President Obama only told NPR that he discussed “simplifying the system, hopefully lowering rates, broadening the base.”

If so, and if there are no accompanying sleights of hand to extract cash from businesses some other way, as some reports have it, it’s good news. Nothing inhibits the creation of U.S. jobs quite like high corporate taxes and their accompanying regulatory regime.

The fact is, companies sitting on cash aren’t doing nothing. They’re hiring overseas, creating 1.4 million jobs in 2010 alone, according to the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

That’s not because they prefer foreigners to Americans, but because the bad business climate here pushes them to do so.

High Corporate Taxes. ObamaCare. Financial Regulations to choke you to death. And Unions who want to destroy you rather than work with you.

Yeah, sign me up.

The rest of the world is a vastly different place from Obama’s U.S., which is characterized by high taxes and protectionist set-asides for politically connected unions that shut out free trade.

In places like Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, India and Thailand, nobody demonizes business or blasts trade. Instead great efforts are made by the state and the private sector to draw in foreign investment by becoming more competitive than their rivals.

U.S. multinationals go to these places not because labor is cheap but because these policies also create boomtowns with lots of customers. Incredibly enough, sometimes overseas profits and jobs provide a lifeline for troubled U.S. companies back home. Take GM — today, its Brazil and Korea operations help keep it afloat.

Growth in the 8% to 9% range is typical in Asia. But even in other pro-business areas — like the city of Lyon, France, or the manufacturing mecca of Tijuana, Mexico — governments are going out of their way to attract U.S. investment.

In Tijuana’s case, they’ve succeeding despite an ugly drug war.

While high-tax, high-bureaucrat suburbs around Los Angeles draw investment from hot sauce factories and hire unskilled workers, Mexico is drawing aerospace manufacturers and hiring engineers. Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Qatar and even the Republic of Congo are pulling them in, too.

Why? So long as profits are encouraged instead of taxed, the natural outcome is jobs. It’s that simple. They get it. Why don’t we?

Salon magazine noted that as companies shift their hiring overseas, the 1.4 million jobs created there could have, if they were created here, lowered the unemployment rate to 8.9% from 9.8%.

It’s not for nothing that the rescuers of Chile’s trapped miners this year knew the names of all the specialized American manufacturers to call for help. These companies had already been working in Chile because the government made it worth it to do so.

If small, remote countries like Chile can create opportunities for U.S. companies to invest and and hire workers, why can’t we? (IBD)

Because liberals heart-and-soul need for class warfare overrides reason and intellect so they go for the “rich” and for the “greedy” businessman and then wonder why they aren’t just rolling over and playing kissy-kissy with them back.

But there are rumors that Obama may lower the Corporate Tax (the 2nd highest in the world) to stimulate jobs because he is now running for re-election.

But I’m sure the the Left will have a major coronary and hissy-fit if he does. So it will probably be loaded down with Agenda Pork and go nowhere if he even has the guts to propose it.

But the Class Warfare of Business vs “worker” is at the heart of Liberalism so they can’t just forgive one of their fundamental beliefs and fundamental political strategies.

Nothing is easier for politicians than to play Santa Claus by promising benefits without mentioning the costs — or lying about the costs and leaving it to future governments to figure out what to do when the money runs out.

Or demonizing business then simultaneously turning around two-faced and demonize them for not wanting to do business with them.

It’s all politics. And it’s all for the benefit of the politicians and their “base”.

No one else.

Liberals never tire of discussing their own generosity, particularly when demanding that the government take your money by force to fund shiftless government employees overseeing counterproductive government programs.

They seem to have replaced “God” with “Government” in scriptural phrases such as “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)–Ann Coulter

And Business, to Liberals, is the snake in the Garden of Eden, tempting you to ruin with the Apple of Capitalism!

You must Resist the Temptation! 🙂

Reality is to Be Feared

Remember this when you hear liberals screaming and yelling about “fat Cat” CEO’s and their bonuses and how evil they are:

DETROIT – New General Motors Co. CEO Daniel Akerson will get the same $9 million pay package as the man he replaced, Ed Whitacre.

The automaker, which is 60.8 percent owned by the U.S. government, disclosed the pay package in a filing on Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It is identical to what the company disclosed for Whitacre in February.

So don’t do as they do, do as they say and hate the “the rich” because they are evil incarnate. 🙂

ACLU lawyer Christopher Calabrese fears that the cameras could be used covertly. “If you can identify any individual at a distance and without their knowledge, you literally allow the physical tracking of a person anywhere there’s a camera and access to the Internet,” he said.

Iris scans can be quicker than fingerprints. “You can walk up to a wall-mounted box, look at the camera, and that’s it,” Grother said.

Homeland Security will test cameras that take photos from 3 or 4 feet away, including one that works on people as they walk by, Vemury said.

If I agree with the American Communist Liberals Union (ACLU) you know the universe is endanger! 🙂

But don’t worry, Big Brother and Big Sis are not trying to track your every move and know and control everything about you. No, not at all… 🙂

*******

The number of people in the United States who are living in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Obama’s watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty.

Census figures for 2009 – the recession-ravaged first year of Obama’s presidency – are to be released this week, and demographers expect grim findings.

The expected poverty-rate increase – from 13.2 percent to about 15 percent – would be another blow to Democrats struggling to persuade voters to keep them in power. Midterm congressional elections are only weeks away.(WP)

But don’t worry, this too is also totally Bush’s Fault! 🙂

He claims that “the policies of the previous decade … that cut taxes, especially for millionaires and billionaires … ultimately culminated in a financial crisis and a terrible recession that we’re still digging out of today.”--President Obama

The president falsified the record. The Democrats’ politicization of mortgages — not Bush’s tax cuts — caused the financial crisis.

But don’t expect the Ministry of Truth to tell you that either.

If the tax cuts are to blame, why did Obama’s just-resigned Council of Economic Advisers Chairwoman Christina Romer — whom Obama on Friday said “helped save this country from a depression” — recently co-author an article in the American Economic Review “contrary to the White House’s plan to reverse the Bush tax cuts,” as columnist Donald Lambro noted? (IBD)

And then there’s former Budget Director Pete Orszag who said the tax cuts should be kept.

So if tax cuts are so evil and wrecked the nation, then why were two of Obama’s biggest Financial Guru’s for them??

Mind you, it was only AFTER they left. 🙂

President Barack Obama talked a lot about economic recovery during his State of the Union address on Jan. 27, 2010, including the benefits of the economic stimulus bill passed last year.

The stimulus, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, included tax cuts for many Americans, Obama said.

“We cut taxes. We cut taxes for 95 percent of working families. We cut taxes for small businesses,” Obama said. “We cut taxes for first-time homebuyers. We cut taxes for parents trying to care for their children. We cut taxes for 8 million Americans paying for college.”

So when he says he cut taxes (and doesn’t really or does and then raises in other ways-like Obama Care) it’s good. But if someone else proposes it, it’s just cuts for “the rich” and wrecks the country.

Say what??

“We’re going to take the next 50-some days to convince the public that’s exactly what the Republicans would do – back to the Bush policies,” White House Spokesman Gibbs said.

FEAR IS HOPE

Ad Hominem: attacking the person instead of attacking his argument.

Democrats desperate to convince their base to show up at the polls in November have begun talking less about issues and more about the possibility of a “Tea Party Congress” next year.

The passage of landmark bills such as healthcare and financial regulatory reform has not triggered as much grassroots enthusiasm as initially envisioned, Democratic strategists say. And while the right is engaged this cycle, the left is deflated.

“This is a big problem,” said Democratic targeting and turnout guru Hal Malchow.

So Democrats have turned to a strategy that may be their next best bet: demonization of the “insurgent” Tea Party.

“These are not your run-of-the-mill Republicans we’re talking about here,” said one Democratic organizer working in a state with a contested Senate race this fall. “When you actually start telling voters what these candidates are about, it scares the hell out of them.”

In the past several weeks, when Democratic activists cite the ramifications of a “Tea Party Congress,” they say, more volunteers have signed up to knock on doors to preserve a Democratic-led House and Senate.

President Obama does not fire up the left as much as he did in 2008, and polls indicate independents are turning on him.

A recent Gallup survey shows that Republicans are far more enthusiastic about voting than Democrats, leading by a 50 percent to 25 percent count.

Many liberals have expressed frustration with the White House on issues ranging from the war in Afghanistan to the military prison in Guantanamo Bay — which Obama pledged to close by last January — to the lack of a public option in healthcare reform.

Uniting the party, and making sure their voters don’t stay home this fall, has become the No. 1 issue for the Democratic Party.

“The argument that we’ve made is that the Republican Party has been taken over by the Tea Party,” Democratic National Committee (DNC) spokeswoman Hari Sevugan said. “It not only energizes Democrats, but it’s the fundamental choice that independents and moderates face in the fall, too.”

Some in Democratic circles are unsure whether they can convince voters that this election is a choice instead of a referendum on Obama and the Democratic Congress. Still, there is a consensus that it’s the best game plan they have.

While then-President George W. Bush was an effective bogeyman for Democrats in 2006 and 2008, blaming him now for the nation’s economic woes has not resonated nearly as much.

University of Virginia professor Larry Sabato pointed the finger at “the failure of the Obama economic agenda” for depressing the Democratic base, but is skeptical that shifting away from issues on the campaign trail will solve the party’s turnout dilemma.

“I’m not sure trotting out a bunch of devil figures — the Tea Party congressional nominees, George Bush, [former Alaska Gov.] Sarah Palin, etc., is going to make much difference. Democrats know Obama is in power for at least two more years and can stymie a GOP Congress,” Sabato said. “But in the absence of good news on the economy, it’s worth a try to point out to Democrats who’ll be running things at one end of Pennsylvania Avenue if Democrats don’t show up to vote.”

Many Democrats, including Obama, predicted six months ago that voters would embrace the healthcare reform law when they learned more about it.

But polls show that the public is deeply divided on it. And it’s not moving many people off their couches, according to Democrats at the state and local level.

“Healthcare is largely unpopular in most places,” Malchow said. “That’s why Democrats aren’t talking about it.” (Fifty-three percent (53%) of U.S. voters now say they at least somewhat favor repeal of the new national health care law, matching the lowest level of opposition since the bill was passed by Congress in March. That includes 42% who Strongly Favor repeal.A majority has favored repeal of the legislation every single week since late March, and the bill is playing a major role in a number of congressional races across the country. Support for repeal has ranged from a low of 53%, reached once before in July, to a high of 63%.-Rasmussen)

Financial reform, and other items enacted in the 111th Congress, are likewise not lighting a fire under the Democratic base.

What is working, turnout specialists say, is talking about the “insurgent” Tea Party and how the “rising red” movement could affect the agenda in Washington in 2011.

The success of Tea Party candidates in primaries, especially candidates backed by Palin, has given Democratic operatives a key talking point. These officials have also used the Aug. 28 rally in Washington, D.C., led by Fox News commentator Glenn Beck, as a volunteer recruitment tool.

Malchow said that Tea Party-backed candidates who are further to the right than centrist and independent voters will, in the end, help the Democrats’ cause: “That’s a major motivating factor for Democrats, but I think it also depends on where you are.”

In Nevada, with a Republican nominee for Senate like Sharron Angle, Malchow said, it’s likely to be more of a motivator for Democrats than in a state like Illinois, where the party has nominated a more centrist Senate candidate in Rep. Mark Kirk.

“Base voters understand what’s at stake in this election,” said the DNC’s Sevugan. “The message that’s resonating is, do we continue to move forward or do we allow the Republicans to take us back? A slate of Republican candidates who hold very extreme positions make that choice crystal clear.”

Earlier this summer, Democrats launched an effort to cast the Republican Party and the Tea Party as one and the same.

“You don’t know where the Republican Party ends and the Tea Party begins, and they have to own that,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said in July.

In an interview on MSNBC late last month, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said he expects voters to wake up to what Tea Party-backed candidates are actually running on before November.

“I think we’ve got some folk — Tea Party folk, Republicans — who are out of sync with the average American. And most Americans are in the middle,” said Cummings.

That’s a much sharper tone than Democrats were employing six months ago. In late February, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) went so far as to say that she and Tea Partiers share some of the same views. Since then, however, Democrats have identified the Tea Party as their clear adversary.

For example, Vice President Joe Biden lashed out at the “Republican Tea Party” a couple of weeks ago, predicting Democrats will retain control of both houses of Congress.

“It’s a race between Democrats and the Republican Tea Party,” Biden said.(The Hill)

Washington is today a human and systemic failure that is destroying us from within. Its profligate spending is undermining the dollar — and, according to the International Monetary Fund, it is risking a U.S. sovereign debt crisis. According to Lenin, “There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than debauching the currency.”

The eminent Samuel Huntington observed that Washington is — through the Third World orientation of its immigration policies — deliberately destroying the linguistic, cultural and creedal glue that defines and holds the nation together. Research by Harvard professor Robert Putnam associates high levels of government-created “diversity” with civic dissonance and decline.

Washington makes tax slaves out of one in four Americans, forcing them to pay nearly all the income tax while others pay little or none. It taxes too heavily in the dumbest way possible that does the maximum economic damage (about $3 for every $1 of tax collected), costing everyone jobs and incomes. Taxation is an economic poison that spreads quickly.

And when government spends a dollar, the economic benefit is typically between zero and 60 cents, thereby digging the hole still deeper with a loss on each transaction. No wonder “stimulus” doesn’t work.

Washington discriminates among us according to race and gender, takes our money and property and gives it to union bosses and other friends on its political Facebook, and by forcing us to fill out millions of government forms, annually confiscates 10 billion hours of our time.

It invades our schools, raises costs, messes with students’ minds and morals, and lowers educational quality. It scorns and interferes with traditional Americans in the exercise of their religion — and it forces everyone to fight through a jungle of federal regulations just to live our daily lives.

Washington has by fiat reduced the earnings on our savings accounts to near zero and given the differential to banks and speculators. It has taken $2.5 trillion out of our Social Security Trust Fund and “replaced” the money with federal IOUs that it can pay only by imposing additional taxes on us. What a cruel hoax.

A soon-to-be-published analysis of historical data (by Gary and Aldona Robbins) shows how government ineptitude has for decades been increasing the price of health care. ObamaCare is the final atrocity. It will not be tolerated.

Washington constantly intervenes in our free-market economy, cannibalizing vital parts and impairing its ability to provide jobs and raise living standards. Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” of commerce and trade may soon stop altogether. Absent that productive genius, what will we do then? Rely on government? What a hoot. Washington is broke and produces nothing.

The Great Recession tells us that government is better at creating problems (such as deficits, debt, unemployment and the housing bubble) than it is at providing solutions. And President Obama proves daily that profligate spending really is a sin: It kills jobs.

Instead of apologizing to the world for America, Obama should apologize to us. His administration seems unfortunately to have lost both its economic mind and its moral compass. (IBD)

But instead, you get it’s Bush’s Fault, fear the “tea party” as radicals and nutjobs, and spending EVEN MORE money than we have will solve everything! 😦

I’ll give Gov. Deval Patrick (MA) the last word: “It’s a free country. I wish it weren’t, but . . . it’s a free country,” Patrick said on the “Jim & Margery Show” on WTKK-FM. “You know, you got to, you got to respect that freedom.”

🙂

Crisis Inverted

He’s just so darn presidential. You better know who I’m talking about . . . because if you don’t, I know whose ass to kick.

In a recent interview with NBC’s “Today” show, President Obama said this: “I don’t sit around talking to experts because this is a college seminar. We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.” Scoot over, Gettysburg Address. There’s a new No. 1 speech in town.

Some have been oddly surprised by the president’s unpresidential approach. Here are a few possible reasons why they’re so shocked:

  1. They were asleep when Obama said this in July of 2009 with respect to the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr.: “Now, I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts . . . But I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly. . . ” (So what if he didn’t have the facts! What’s next, people? Are you going to insist that he read laws before publicly condemning them? You right-wing extremists!)
  2. They took their dog for a walk and missed Obama’s commentary in April of 2010 regarding Palin’s critique of his administration’s nuclear policy: “I really have no response to that. The last I checked, Sarah Palin is not much of an expert on nuclear issues.” (Translation: She’s no match for me. She may have run a state and been Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, but did she vote “present” nearly 130 times as a state senator? I think not.)
  3. They were busy cooking and didn’t catch Obama saying this to John McCain at the health care summit in February of 2010: “Let me just make this point, John, because we’re not campaigning anymore. The election’s over.” (Translation: I won. You lost. Nani nani poo poo.)
  4. They were enjoying a film at the corner theatre and missed Obama saying this in August of 2009: “ . . . I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them just to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess.” (In other words, hand over your money and shut the heck up.)
  5. They were hanging out at a local café and didn’t hear our president’s complete (and disturbing, in my opinion) mischaracterization of the new Arizona immigration law in April of 2010: “ . . . you can imagine if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona, your great, great grandparents may have been there before Arizona was even a state. But now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you’re going to be harassed . . . ” (Translation: I don’t have to read pertinent documents. I went to Harvard. Enough said.)

If you’ve been paying attention since day one, Obama’s tone with respect to the oil spill shouldn’t be in the least bit shocking. I just wish he wasn’t so busy playing the role of big man on campus. Maybe then he would’ve had time this year to hear the majority of Americans oppose his health care law and/or support Arizona’s immigration law. But hey, with golf and Bush-hating Paul McCartney to fit in, let’s cut him some slack.

As an entertaining side note, Obama was recently asked to respond to comments made by BP CEO Tony Hayward, including “I’d like my life back” and “ . . . everything we can see at the moment suggests that the overall environmental impact will be very, very modest.” Hayward’s comments were distasteful at best, but check out what Obama had to say in reply: “He wouldn’t be working for me after any of those statements.” Culture of Corruption author Michelle Malkin must have enjoyed a full-on fit of laughter after that one.

Mr. President, it’s not presidential to make bold public statements based on assumptions, without taking the time to do your research. It’s not presidential to essentially tell a whole bunch of Americans to sit down and shut up. It’s not presidential to condescend to a war hero and long-standing American Senator. And while we’re at it, it’s not any more presidential to repeatedly blast Fox News than it was to have joked during the 2008 presidential campaign that, “I’ll put Mr. Burgess up against Sean Hannity. He’ll tear him up.”

Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I’d like my president to act like one. Save the ass-kicking for someone else.(Jedediah Bila)

Didn’t he remind you of the nerdy kid trying to sound like the tough kid? Or of that bad actor who says his lines with no conviction whatsover?

Now next week, Obama has “summoned” the CEO of BP to his office for a dressing down so that he can look tough.

Problem is, I’ve seen better acting on Star Trek: Voyager (and anyone who knows me how much I hate that show!).

But the Ministry of  Truth will do their best to create Mr. Bad Ass. Mr Can Do. Mr I’m Involved and I Care.

But, like most things with this President, it will ultimately ring very hollow.

I’m not going to defend BP, but they sure as hell are doing more than this President about it.

I mean, this President has refused help from 13 countries! 13!!

President Obama is impeding clean-up efforts in the Gulf by kowtowing to unions and members of the American maritime industry, critics have charged in recent days. At issue is the president’s refusal to waive the Jones Act, a century-old law that effectively bars foreign-owned ships from moving between U.S. ports, a necessary component of participating in the cleanup effort.

When asked why President Obama hasn’t waived the Jones Act — which President Bush put on hold to facilitate Katrina rescue efforts — White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said a suspension wasn’t necessary.

Not Necessary!!!????!!!!

Well, we wouldn’t want to Obama to annoy they only people left who love him, Unions.

That’s vastly more important than actually do everything you can to solve the problem!

Heaven forbid you make the Unions mad at you! 😦

And then there was the enviromental impact study that the government had to take a month to do to study the effects of putting sand berms in the way of the advancing oil and when all was said and done approve less than  what the Governor of Louisiana asked for because of concerns over the long term impact.

Too little too late.

And these are the guys  you want running Health Care??!! 😦

Yeah, sand berms are far worse for the environment that raw crude oil by the millions  of gallons!! 😦

There was a manufacturer in Maine who makes oil booms. He has a million yards ready to go, but neither BP or Obama will buy them!

There was even a Science guy on FOX last night that showed a poly-blended cloth that if you pour oil and water through it it retains the oil and the water is strained out cleanly.

But no one wants to here from him.

Territorial  Political Testosterone at it’s finest.

So one has to conclude that the only reason Obama cares, or appears to at all, is because  of politics.

That’s it.

He doesn’t actually want to solve the problem.

That does not interest him at all.

But the Crisis, now that’s an opportunity!

Never Waste a Good Crisis. — Rahm Emmanuel 🙂

“Don’t be fooled by Obama’s ‘incompetence’,” warns Stu Tarlowe in a provocative post at the American Thinker blog. “If you think the Gulf oil spill spells trouble for Obama, you’re just not looking at as big a picture as he’s looking at, and you just don’t realize how much trouble we’re all in.”

Tarlowe cites the Cloward-Piven Strategy, which was developed by two Columbia University sociology professors as a way to use political and economic chaos to achieve their radical ends. When viewed through this lens, what the rest of the nation views as a political disaster for Obama could be an opportunity instead.

“…If the oil spill in the Gulf manages to destroy the fishing and tourist industries in that region, shut down oil drilling, raise the price of oil and of food all over the country, and bring more and more Americans to a financial breaking point and thus dependent on food stamps and other government programs, Obama and Co. will smile and nod at one another,” Tarlowe predicts.

Obama’s own behavior indicates that Tarlowe may be right. The president reiterated his cap-and-trade case yesterday, amid another pitch for ending tax breaks for Big Oil and giving them to Big Environmentalists Doing Alternative Energy Projects to push America back into the 19th century.

“…The only way the transition to clean energy will ultimately succeed is if the private sector is fully invested in this future — if capital comes off the sidelines and the ingenuity of our entrepreneurs is unleashed.  And the only way to do that is by finally putting a price on carbon pollution,” Obama said during a speech at Carnegie Mellon University.

“The House of Representatives has already passed a comprehensive energy and climate bill, and there is currently a plan in the Senate – a plan that was developed with ideas from Democrats and Republicans – that would achieve the same goal.  And, Pittsburgh, I want you to know, the votes may not be there right now, but I intend to find them in the coming months,” the president added.

If Obama is indeed following the Cloward-Piven game plan, he will use the BP oil spill crisis to his advantage by forcing the passage of the ruinous cap and trade bill through the Senate before the November elections. (washington examiner)

The end justifies the means.

Since Global Warming and Global Climate Change have crashed he needs a new champion cry to get Cap & Trade rammed down your throats!

OIL!! 🙂

The Agenda is The Agenda.

And they have to get as much done before November as they can.

Anything that puts a greater strain on government services — and the inability of those services, through incompetence and complex bureaucracy to actually improve things – advances the goals of Cloward-Piven. The more desperate and demoralized the American people become, and the more preoccupied we are with simple survival, the better our new “leaders” like it, and the closer they get to assuming total and complete control of every aspect of our lives.

It explains that even the patently unconstitutional laws and policies implemented by the Obama regime are a deliberate part of the strategy, because in addition to using financial crises to bring about the desired changes in our way of life, it is necessary to render our Constitution impotent and irrelevant. (American Thinker)

So when you are paying $8 for gas and your electric bill triples due to new regulations and taxes under the guise of “dealing with our dependence on fossil fuels”-oil specifically, you’ll be politically incorrect and shouted down as insensitive if you want to drill for our own oil off our own shores.

“Green energy” or Bust!

Because, then he has you, literally, over a barrel.

The implications of this are irrelevant. Because it’s all about the power.

And NOTHING ELSE.

Now, that’s Politics, The Chicago Way. 🙂
