This may not be as juicy as Illegal Immigration but when I found out about it yesterday when I watched this week’s episode of “Mystery Diners” on the Food Network I just had the best cynical laugh in an long time.
This dates back to when the State of Arizona was slapped around as being “racist” when then-Gov Brewer and the state decided to enforce Federal Immigration Laws themselves since the Feds were largely ignoring them.
The State was slapped with the Federal Supremacy Clause saying only the Federal Government could enforce this and if they didn’t want to, tough shit bucko.
So now we turn to foie gras. An elite French dish involving goose and duck livers. It’s a high class dish.
The State of California banned it from being served in 2012 because of sanctimony and animal activists. So serving this dish was illegal.
The owner of the restaurant in the episode served it in his restaurant secretly. But in the end credits it was mentioned that the ban was lifted.
Apparently that just happened last month and the State is appealing it.
But here’s the punchline: The State’s ban was overturned by a Federal Judge because it violated Federal Supremacy! Namely, The Dept. of Agriculture’s own poultry guidlines.
I laughed really hard when the State and all their sanctimonious activists were hoist on their own Federal petard.
The Feds stepped in and said, nope sorry, you can’t do that because only we can do that.
I hope they ultimately lose.
You play with Government fire, you too could get burned!
The judge, Stephen V. Wilson of United States District Court, ruled the ban unconstitutional, saying it attempted to override existing federal law regulating poultry products.
Naturally, the sanctimonious are not pleased: Ingrid E. Newkirk, the president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said in an email. “A line will be drawn in the sand outside any restaurant that goes back to serving this torture in a tin.”
Sorry, FEDERAL SUPREMACY CLAUSE! too bad, so sad, F*ck you!
If the Feds want to ignore your outrage they can do so and all you can do is suck it! 🙂
Oh, cynical and petty joy to the world!
