The Food Police 2014

Before I getb to today guest article: Just a Note

In 1983, the FDA began banning men who have had sex with other men at any time since 1977  (believed to be the year the AIDS epidemic began in the United States), from donating blood.

This ban is still in place to this day, apparently. Gee, I wonder why the screeching harpies on the Left who went ape crap over SB1062  (which wasn’t about gays but they made it so) in Arizona haven’t protested this one?

Because they’d have to protest their own left wingers, perhaps? Hmmm…

http://www.takepart.com/article/2014/02/25/fda-blood-donation-ban

Now on with the show…

Would you rather sip on unpasteurized milk or a cold glass of soda? Do you prefer Saturday lunch at a fast food joint or a farmers market?

Regardless of your choices, your food freedom — your right to grow, raise, produce, buy, sell, share, cook, eat, and drink the foods you want — is under attack. Here are ten food freedom issues to keep an eye on in 2014.

1: FDA May Ban or Restrict a Growing Number of Food Ingredients. The FDA has proposed banning oils containing trans fats, an ingredient found in foods like coffee creamers and muffins. If you think that’s an overstep, consider that the agency is also likely to propose unprecedented new restrictions on food ingredients like sodium and caffeine in 2014.

2: Raw Milk Bans Drawing Fire. Unpasteurized (“raw”) milk is increasingly popular, but because consuming raw milk carries some risk, the FDA and some states ban its sale.

Yet the risks of drinking raw milk are similar to those posed by eating a medium-rare hamburger, spinach, cantaloupe or other foods that rightly warrant nothing more than a government warning sticker. Look for continued fights over overly strict raw milk regulations in 2014.

3: New York City’s Soda Ban Not Dead Yet. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s ham-handed attempt to ban large sodas earned him scorn from Jon Stewart and the New York Times editorial board. It also forced a broad coalition of unions, soda makers, restaurants, and minority businesses to sue to overturn the ban. Nevertheless, Bloomberg’s successor Bill DeBlasio has vowed to forge ahead with the soda ban. After two stinging losses, the city has filed a last gasp court appeal that should be decided in 2014.

4: Farm Subsidies Will Prop Up Big Farms, Cost Taxpayers Billions. Farm subsidies administered by the USDA shift taxpayer money to mostly large, already profitable farmers so they can do things they’d already be doing (like, say, farming) or things that don’t make much sense (like planting more crops than consumers want to buy). That may or may not have been a good idea in the 1940s, when federal farm subsidies first arose, but it’s been nothing but a terrible boondoggle since.

Everyone knows this, and yet Congress will still pass a Farm Bill in 2014 that features some form of wasteful farm subsidies.

5: FDA’s Menu Labeling Rules Could Be a Colossal Mess. One underreported element of ObamaCare is that it requires the FDA to enact nationwide menu labeling rules. The rules would require many chain restaurants to provide calorie counts on most menu items, but what about pizza delivery chains like Domino’s which has 34 million different ways to order a pizza? What about grocery stores with a salad bar? Even as study after study shows that menu labeling is actually counterproductive, the FDA will have to answer these questions in 2014.

6: Some Cities Still Kicking Food Trucks to the Curb. 2013 was a pretty good year for food trucks around the country. Washington, D.C. opted not to crack down on its vibrant food truck scene, instead enacting new rules that appear to have brought some tasty peace to the nation’s capital. New Orleans did the same.

How will food trucks fare in 2014? They still face existential threats from regulators in cities nationwide—including Alexandria, Va., Birmingham, Ala., Lexington, Ky. and San Diego, Calif.

7. Soda Taxes Still Being Pushed in San Francisco. San Francisco has proposed a 2014 ballot measure to make its residents “healthier” by adding nearly $1.50 in taxes to the cost of a six-pack of soda.

Good idea? Hardly.

Research shows food sin taxes don’t work. So does real life. After Denmark implemented a series of food sin taxes, the country was forced to scrap the laws because they were bad for business, caused job losses and didn’t work.

8:  Rise of Voluntary GMO Labeling. To borrow a phrase from prognosticator extraordinaire Nate Silver, the noise is that 90% of voters want the government to force GMO labeling on consumers. The signal—specifically from voters in California and Washington State, who’ve both rejected mandatory GMO labeling—is that Americans prefer a different approach. As we’ve seen with companies like Whole Foods and Chipotle, some restaurants and grocers are responding to demands from their own consumers that they label or move away from GMO foods on their own. Expect consumer choice on GMOs to continue to trump government mandates in 2014.

9: FDA’s Proposed Food Safety Rules Could Hurt Farmers, Raise Food Costs. Advocates for small farmers were up in arms in 2013 over proposed FDA food safety rules that could bury them in pointless, costly red tape. Even the FDA admitted the rules, which would cost nearly $1 billion each year, would only make food up to 5.7% safer. While the FDA recently scrapped the proposed rules and will go back to the drawing board in 2014, there’s no promising the next round of proposed rules will be any better.

10: Government to Consider Restrictions on Food Marketing to Kids (Again).Companies that advertise foods that parents buy for kids are often vilified by a segment of the public health community.

Food companies may indeed want kids to nag parents to buy their foods, but parents and guardians—not kids—determine what kids eat.

If you’re a parent and you (and Santa) didn’t buy Johnny or Susie all the toys they asked for at Christmastime, then you already know when, why, and how to say no to your kid. But that bit of common sense likely won’t stop the government from considering new food marketing restrictions in 2014. (the “wrong network”)

Cup a Joe

“If you reach out to your Republican friend who can’t stand Obama, but is basically a nice person and they just– but they watch the wrong newscast or — you all know those folks,” Obama said. “Some uncle or cousin, you love them to death, but they come in with all this information that’s just wrong, and you’re shaking your head, but you decide you don’t want to get in an argument with them because you haven’t seen them in a while and you miss them. Right? Everybody has got those folks. You know them.”
“reaching out to Republicans who “watch the wrong newscast” and other friends who aren’t paying attention, “because they’re on one of the other channels that has ‘Real Housewives’ or something.” (Blaze)

BRAVO has a newscast?

The Shahs of Sunset on The Iranian Nuclear Threat?

Top Chef on The latest FDA ban?

Next on BRAVO, Watch What Happens Live at the Border!

So what are the “right” networks?? MSNBC?? NBC? Al-Jazeera America?
What ones are government approved? Have that Obama seal of approval for all the “in-the-the-know” correct knowledge?

Could it be the ones that are feeding you his lies and nothing but his lies?

Gee, I wonder… 🙂

“So if you’re able to reach out to them, and you just say, take a look, here, here, let’s get on the Web site. There’s the price. There’s the plan. Here’s the tax credit. Here’s what it will cost for you. Come on, Uncle Joe, I know you don’t have health insurance. You may not like the president, but this really is a good deal.”

And if you act now we’ll throw in this set of Ginzu knives and Sham Wow!

Does this sound like the cheezy infomercials you see at 3am? Or a a Used Car Dealer?

I wonder how many of you were old enough to remember Joe Isuzu. Joe Isuzu was a fictional spokesman used in a series of television advertisements for Isuzu from 1986 to 1990. Joe Isuzu was a pathological liar who told outrageous and overinflated claims about Isuzu’s cars.

When I watch Obama, Biden, Dodd, Franks and Pelosi I can’t help but wonder if they are all related to good ole Joe. Their claims seem to be at least as outrageous as the claims Joe Isuzu made. A few of Joe’s more memorable quotes were:

“You have my word on it.”

“If I’m lying, may lightning hit my mother.” (“Good luck, Mom!” appears on screen!)

“It has more seats than the Astrodome!”

“Hi, I’m Joe Isuzu and I used my new Isuzu pickup truck to carry a 2,000 pound cheeseburger.”

“The Isuzu Impulse: faster than a speeding—[catches a bullet in his teeth]—well, you know.”

Any of these sound familiar? Obama with his long line of broken campaign promises reminds me of Joe’s “You have my word on it”. We knew Joe was full of crap and now we know the same about Obama.

“If I’m lying, may lightning hit my mother”. Is there anyone out there right now who would want to be the mother of any of these morons? They have lied and misdirected the American people almost every time they have opened their mouths. Dodd couldn’t seem to remember he inserted the text in the stimulus that allowed for AIG’s bonuses to stand when CNN asked him about it. Pelosi quoted job losses at 5 million a month when they were 500,000. Obama was going to change the way Washington worked. Biden, well, Biden is just an idiot. Mom! Hurry duck!

ObamaCare was going to CREATE Jobs. You could also keep your doctor, your plan , and your hospital! And it was going to be cheaper!

(By now Mom has been struck by lighting so many times her sub-atomic particles are burnt to a crisp and we haven’t even mentioned Benghazi, The IRS, The FDA, The FCC, The CIA, or the EPA!) 🙂

“It has more seats than the astrodome” reminds me of Obama’s “jobs created or saved” statement regarding the stimulus bill that he never read. Never mind the fact that the Congressional Budget Office has revised his numbers down by about a million, he still uses the same fictitious numbers he started with.

After all we have nothing but steady job growth since the Stimulus! That’s why we have the lowest labor participation rate in 35 years!

They may not be carrying a 2000 pound cheeseburger in an Isuzu truck but they have strapped a 2000 pound gorilla to the backs of the American taxpayers and we aren’t too damn happy about it.

But fear not, it’s not a tax, it’s a “Shared Responsibility Payment!” 🙂
The Obama administration: Spins faster than a speeding, well you know. Well that pretty much says it all. If you are incapable of telling the truth you must be a master of spin. If nothing else they are good at that. The country as we know it may be circling the drain but we would never know it as long as we’re “spinning” down the drain with it.

I hope that this administration will go the way of Joe Isuzu and quietly fade into the annals of history faster than a speeding (well you know), returning only for the occasional “where are they now” segment. At the very least maybe we can convince network executives to put the “He’s lying” disclaimer at the bottom of the screen. We can hope, can’t we? (Silent Majority Blog)

Naw they’ll just put “Applause” at the bottom of the screen with a number where you can report anyone who is not applauding so the IRS can audit them, after all, they are The Ministry of Truth and they never Lie, do they Joe….

You Vill Comply!

The Obama Administration’s IRS jackboots have come up with a new Orwellian euphemism for the ObamaCare Mandate Tax, see if you can spot it. 🙂

oh, and then there’s :

President Obama thanked the group that used to be his reelection campaign, Organizing for Action, in event tonight in Washington.

“The work you are doing is God’s work,” Obama told supporters. (TWS)

Not that his has a Messiah complex or that the Left has very high opinion of their superiority complex… after all God was a National Socialist! 🙂

President Obama’s Internal Revenue Service today quietly released a series of Obamacare “Health Care Tax Tips” warning Americans that they must obtain “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by the federal government – or face a “shared responsibility payment” when filing their tax returns in 2015. The term “shared responsibility payment” refers to the Obamacare individual mandate tax, one of at least seven tax hikes in the healthcare law that directly hit families making less than $250,000 per year.

In “Four Tax Facts about the Health Care Law for Individuals” the agency writes:

Your 2014 tax return will ask if you had insurance coverage or qualified for an exemption.  If not, you may owe a shared responsibility payment when you file in 2015.

In “The Individual Shared Responsibility Payment- An Overview” the agency warns Americans they must prove they were covered each and every month of the year:

For any month in 2014 that you or any of your dependents don’t maintain coverage and don’t qualify for an exemption, you will need to make an individual shared responsibility payment with your 2014 tax return filed in 2015.

In “IRS Reminds Individuals of Health Care Choices for 2014” the agency details the calculations Americans can look forward to if they are liable for the tax:

If you (or any of your dependents) do not maintain coverage and do not qualify for an exemption, you will need to make an individual shared responsibility payment with your return. In general, the payment amount is either a percentage of your household income or a flat dollar amount, whichever is greater. You will owe 1/12th of the annual payment for each month you (or your dependents) do not have coverage and are not exempt. The annual payment amount for 2014 is the greater of:

  • 1 percent of your household income that is above the tax return filing threshold for your filing status, such as Married Filing Jointly or single, or
  • Your family’s flat dollar amount, which is $95 per adult and $47.50 per child, limited to a maximum of $285.

As confirmed by previous  IRS testimony to the tax-writing House Committee on Ways and Means, “taxpayers will file their tax returns reporting their health insurance coverage, and/or making a payment”.

But it’s NOT A TAX, remember, because then the Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional. 🙂

Once fully phased in, the Obamacare individual mandate tax will rise steeply, to a maximum of 2.5 percent of Adjusted Gross Income or $2,085 – whichever is higher.

But be happy, it’s not a TAX! 🙂

And you can keep your doctor, your plan, and your hospital if you like them! 🙂

Trust Me! 🙂

President Obama’s campaign promise:

I can make a firm pledge under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.

Chris Conover comments:

There’s 21 different taxes stuffed into ObamaCare designed to raise more than $1 trillion in taxes over the next decade. Last October I showed that only 30% of these taxes would actually be borne exclusively by “rich” households ($200,000+ for singles/$250,000+ for couples)…

Even the lowest income families (earning less than about $19,000 in 2012) will be on the hook for nearly $7,000 in ObamaCare taxes over the decade that started last year. [See the graph.]

Untitled

Let’s be clear. ObamaCare also absolutely and positively is socking it to the “rich” (approximately the top 2%). I calculate that families in that income range will end up paying $177,000 over the same decade. But the much more surprising figure is that such families will end up bearing only 34% of the ObamaCare tax burden. It’s true that the top 20% of families will bear about 56% of the overall burden, but such families also account for 50% of after-tax income (at least according to the Consumer Expenditure Survey data I used to make my calculations). (John Goodman)

Paul Krugman (Leftist “economist”): “No, what the right wants are struggling average Americans, preferably women, facing financial devastation from health reform. So those are the tales they’re telling, even though they haven’t been able to come up with any real examples.”

Yes, they have, just not ones that an elitist Progressive Liberal would accept because they can’t accept ANYTHING that is negative about their moral and political superiority. So not a surprise.

Maybe he should read this morning’s WSJ. Here is Stephen Blackwood, the president of Ralston College, describing his mother, a cancer victim whose insurance was cancelled because of ObamaCare:

The repeated and prolonged phone waits were Sisyphean, the competence and customer service abysmal. When finally she found a plan that looked like it would cover her Sandostatin and other cancer treatments, she called the insurer, Humana, to confirm that it would do so. The enrollment agent said that after she met her deductible, all treatments and medications — including those for her cancer — would be covered at 100%. Because, however, the enrollment agents did not — unbelievable though this may seem — have access to the “coverage formularies” for the plans they were selling, they said the only way to find out in detail what was in the plan was to buy the plan. (Does that remind you of anyone?)

With no other options, she bought the plan and was approved on Nov. 22. Because by January the plan was still not showing up on her online Humana account, however, she repeatedly called to confirm that it was active. The agents told her not to worry, she was definitely covered.

Then on Feb. 12, just before going into (yet another) surgery, she was informed by Humana that it would not, in fact, cover her Sandostatin, or other cancer-related medications. The cost of the Sandostatin alone, since Jan. 1, was $14,000, and the company was refusing to pay.

The news was dumbfounding. This is a woman who had an affordable health plan that covered her condition. Our lawmakers weren’t happy with that because…they wanted plans that were affordable and covered her condition. So they gave her a new one. It doesn’t cover her condition and it’s completely unaffordable.

But bet your bottom dollar (because you will have to) a Liberal will have an excuse or a high-handed blow off for this kind of story, after all, ObamaCare is perfect and everyone’s happy and better off… 🙂

And Liberals are never wrong. Just ask them… 🙂

Misanthropic

The heart, the arteries of the country are now clogged with hate. The fuel of American political life is hatred.” — Alec Baldwin

http://www.vulture.com/2014/02/alec-baldwin-good-bye-public-life.html

is worth reading. But all I could think of while reading it is, “well this is how Liberals are” and you’re a Liberal, you didn’t know this? I couldn’t find a lot of sympathy for him because this IS how liberals, and especially The Liberal Media are. But ultimately, I do have some sympathy for him as a ‘hounded’ man but not for politics. He stepped off the Agenda Reservation and he was hunted down and killed for it. Sorry, that’s they way the Left works.

“Bush Lied People Died” anyone? Cheney and Valerie Plaime? Sarah Palin? Ted Cruz? Government Shutdowns? Debt Ceilings? ObamaCare?

But…

And this is all about hate. It’s Hate Incorporated. But the liberals have taken the bait and run in the same direction—and it’s just as corrosive. MSNBC, in its own way, is as full of shit, as redundant and as superfluous, as Fox. (But only Fox and Conservatives were the real target of the FCC).

I think America’s more fucked up now than it’s ever been. People are angry that in the game of musical chairs that is the U.S. economy, there are less seats at the table when the music stops. And at every recession, the music is stopping.

And it’s the fault of the rich! The Tea Party! Businesses! anyone BUT the Liberal Progressive agenda.

In 2012, there were more black babies killed by abortion (31,328) in New York City than were born there (24,758), and the black children killed comprised 42.4% of the total number of abortions in the Big Apple, according to a report by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

So they are slowing being killed off! But who’s the biggest supporter of the people who are promoting the killing off of them? They are.

The Democrats holy sacrament is abortion. Yet, they are being slowly killed off.

Talk about musical chairs!

(and don’t forget to save a quota seat for the “politically Correct” or else you’re a racist, misogynist, homophobic hater!) 🙂

Hate and Fear are the best motivators and the easiest. And that’s the game. Vote for me, the Other Guy’s an Asshole! 🙂

I put my right hand in,
I put my right hand out,
In out, in out.
shake it all about.
Then you switch to “left hand” is put in, then the “right foot,” then the “left foot,” then “my whole head.”
Let’s all do the Hokey Pokey and shake it all about!
That’s what it all about! 🙂

I had dreams of running for office at some point in the next five years. In the pyramid of decision-making in New York City politics, rich people come first, unions second, and rank-and-file New Yorkers come dead last. I wanted to change that. I wanted to find a way to lower the cost of the city government and thus reduce New York’s shameful tax burden. I would have decentralized the schools. My father was a public-school teacher. He always told me that although you could encourage a child to work hard, you could only go so far; that half the goal had to be achieved at home. As progressive as I’ve been in my politics, there are other things I don’t think of as liberal or progressive, just common sense.

But you’d have been run into ground and vilified  to a sub-atomic level for “opposing” the Unions, especially the NEA. You thought MSNBC was a bastion of hatred and self-servicing laziness for applause, this would have been true hell. You have to be 100% with them or else…

Common Sense doesn’t feed the Liberal Hate machine. They are like Slimer from Ghostbusters with an insatiable appetite for power derived from opportunistic and real hatred and complete and total mindless loyalty to the cause regardless.

And now we don’t leave each other alone. Now we live in a digital arena, like some Roman Colosseum, with our thumbs up or thumbs down.

And an Agenda to push, for the “journalists” and the Government, especially under Obama.

The 24/7/365 news cycle. So much hate so little time.

I met with Nick and others from two LGBT organizations. We talked for a while about the torment of the LGBT life many of them have lived while growing up in traditional Hawaiian families. Macho fathers. Religious mothers. We talked a lot about words and their power, especially in the lives of young people.

One young man, an F-to-M tranny, said, “Are you here to get dry-cleaned, like Brett Ratner?” Meaning I could do some mea culpa, write them a six-figure check, go to a dinner, sob at the table, give a heartfelt speech, beg for forgiveness. I thought to myself: Beg for forgiveness for something I didn’t do?

I said, “No. I don’t want to get dry-cleaned. I don’t want to be decontaminated by you, Karen Silkwood–wise, scrubbed down. I want to learn about what is hurtful speech in your community. I want to participate in some programs about that. Or underwrite one. And then, like you, I just want to be left alone.”

But Liberal politicians and Liberal activists don’t want to leave anyone alone, not until they are completely subservient to their whims and wishes and are as spineless and timid as jellyfish and will do whatever they want, whenever they want and because they want them to.

And they are not as tolerant and seeking of of understanding as you might think you are. They are the vastly most intolerant people around.

or as jbk, a commentor said: On the other hand, the left, LONG before MSNBC, refined a hatred for ordinary Americans into a fine art. Of course, not all on the left are like that either. But stop kidding yourself that they merely mirror now the approach from the right. The people who have condemned you without knowing a thing – Andrew Sullivan, Rachel Maddow, etc. – are only the tale-end inheritors of a very old and despicable tradition of elite condescension masquerading as progressive.

And there is no one better, and more practiced at condescending hubris than the Left. 🙂

lgsbharvey

Sorry this happen to Alec but when he says all conservatives are raciest. He is throwing his own brother Stephen Baldwin (A Conservative) under the bus. Not to mention 95% of middle America. So now he gets some of his own medicine he thinks it is unfair…?? Now he knows what it is like living a life as a Black conservative.  When the left can’t compete in the arena of ideas they name call or vilify the other side so they can feel better about themselves. That is what has changed in America and it is sad.

There is nothing more evil to the Left than a) a Black Conservative or b) a Latino Conservative. They are spawn of the devil are a foreign virus that must be destroyed at any cost! They are the ultimate “Not We”.

So is that why I’m misanthropic, yep, you betcha. 🙂

Nailed it!

obama-brownshirts-tpc

The FCC announced on Friday that it would back off its planned study of U.S. newsrooms in which monitors would be dispatched to gather information on how they operate. Even so, Greta Van Susteren on Friday decided to answer the questionnaire that would have been included in the study as honestly as she could.

The first question: “What is the news philosophy of the station?”

Van Susteren’s answer: “None of your business, read the Constitution.”

Question No. 2: “How much news does your station air every day?”

“Watch and figure it out yourself, I’m not doing your work for you,” she responded.

The third question from the proposed FCC study: “Who decides which stories are covered?”

Van Susteren’s familiar answer: “None of your business, read the Constitution.”

“Read the Constitution is what they should’ve done before they even did this study,” she added

But when the Government agency that can ruin you overnight comes “inquiring” about how you do your job there are no “innocent” questions and it’s not the least bit “funny”.

Of the 5 Commissioners who approve new organizations license every 8 years 3 are Democrats. But don’t worry, there’s no agenda here when they talk about “protecting the rights of minorities”. 🙂

The purpose of the CIN, according to the FCC, is to ferret out information from television and radio broadcasters about “the process by which stories are selected” and how often stations cover “critical information needs,” along with “perceived station bias” and “perceived responsiveness to underserved populations.”

Aka, the Liberal Progressive Social AGENDA.

As Thomas Jefferson so eloquently said, “our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.”

Wanna know what MSDNC has as their top story today, “Stand Your Ground Laws” and “Bridgegate” in New Jersey! (who the F*ck cares about that stupid ass story to begin with?–Liberals it fuels their hatred of the “Not We”). Do you think they feel threatened by the FCC?

Nope. They are already the Ministry of Truth.

Put in “FCC” and it comes up with some lame ass story about a Baseball player saying the F-Word in a stadium speech!

They mock Fox’s Megyn Kelly for calling the story “crazy” and 1 commenter says the party line: “I can see where a so-called news network that makes up stories out of whole cloth would be worried about this.”

Megyn Kelly is afraid that a bunch of Non- White feds dressed as Santa’s will start showing up in Fox News rooms.uninvited.”

You can’t even find the story on NBC News Website. But they will tell you about The Democrats wanting to bring back the defeated “Net Neutrality”. 🙂

ABC will talk about the FCC and Cellphones on Airplanes, just not about monitors in the newsroom.

CNN’s top story, The Olympics!

That tells you all you need to know.

Are you now of have you ever been…?

The Commisars

Well, we won’t have the actual Ministry of Truth in full view just yet. But the fact that they were bold enough to even propose it and many “journalists” and other government and Congressional figures had no problem with it should a shiver down your spine.

The Federal Communications Commission will amend a proposed study of newsrooms in South Carolina after outcry over what some called “invasive questions,” the commission’s chairman said Friday.

The survey was meant to study how and if the media is meeting the public’s “critical information needs” on subjects like public health, politics, transportation and the environment. Now, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said questions about news philosophy and editorial judgment will be removed from the survey and media owners and reporters will no longer be questioned.

“Any suggestion the Commission intends to regulate the speech of news media is false,” FCC spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said Friday in a statement, adding that a revised study will be released within the next few weeks.

FOR NOW. We just have to work out a better way to approach it. The frog was thrown in the boiling water and he jumped out so we need a different approach to insure he won’t jump out before he’s boiled to death.

The Justice Department announced Friday it is revising its rules for obtaining records from the news media in leak investigations, promising that in most instances the government will notify news organizations beforehand of its intention to do so.

Because we’ve gotten so much for spying on the and persecuting them. We need a less invasive and less public way of spying on them and then persecuting the offenders.

And the fact that this was all started by “journalism” schools who were not happy with opposition news reporting should terrify you.

Journalism as it was practiced for 200+ years is dead. Now it’s just propaganda.

And, especially on the Left, the Freedom of Speech only extends to their Speech, not yours.

The move to police the newsrooms is an effort to bring back the now-defunct “Fairness Doctrine,” which forces station managers to air unpopular views outside the wishes of both owners and viewers.

Aka, get the opposition off the air. After all, would the FCC demand that MSNBC give equal treatment to conservatives? or would it just demand that FOX give equal time to The Far Left Administration cronies??

D’Oh!

Under the banner of minority representation (OF COURSE!), FCC’s plan to police America’s newsrooms was to dispatch politically connected contractors from a company called Social Solutions International to conduct a “Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs.”

They would interrogate America’s editors and reporters in TV, radio and even newspapers about how they decide which stories to report, all to find bias in need of a government remedy.

After all, you’re all racists & sexists anyhow.

The FCC insists the study is just a quest for information to be given on a “voluntary” basis, but with its power to issue licenses swaying over the heads of editors and reporters, it’s anything but voluntary.

I will voluntarily hold a loaded gun to your head. Now you can say what you want or you can say what I want you to say, your choice. 🙂

The plan was so bad the FCC was forced to issue a statement Friday backtracking on the idea, claiming in its press release that it was “Setting the Record Straight On The Draft Study” (as if the problem was bad reporting rather than an atrocious idea).

It’s not out fault you got mad at us or misunderstood what we were trying to do. Oh, sorry, I’ll put that gun down for now…Until I come up with a better way to extort you, Like I did with ObamaCare.

“My staff has engaged in a careful and thorough review of the Research Design with the contractor to ensure that the inquiries closely hew to the mandate of Section 257. While the Research Design is a tool intended to help the Commission consider effective, pro-competitive policies that would encourage new entrants, its direction need not go beyond our responsibilities. We continue to work with the contractor to adapt the study in response to these concerns and expect to complete this work in the next few weeks.”

Well, that was a lot of smoke and mirrors BS that sounds a lot like the excuses for the ObamaCare Website failure, especially since this study first came to light over 6 months ago and no one on this “research design” team had no issues with the “design” until the opposition media firestormed them!

We didn’t know, we’re sorry. We’ll try again later.

We need to change our methodology and get better optics to successfully pitch the idea that New Rooms, and bloggers need to be monitored for their content.

Be Afraid, Be very Afraid.

Orwell: “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a
human face – forever.”

ARE YOU NOW OR HAVE YOU EVER BEEN??? 🙂

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Not the liberal Left’s version:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of Any religion (and will mock the free exercise thereof); or abridging the freedom of LIBERAL PROGRESSIVE speech, or of the LIBERAL PROGRESSIVE press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble to worship the LIBERAL PROGRESSIVES, any assembly in opposition must therefore be “terrorism” or “racism” and must be considered sedition, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances against Corporations and to seek “social justice” at all costs. 🙂

So be careful of pots of waters that may boil, The FCC is in the Kitchen with a recipe for Frog stew.

The Giver

Watching Rachael Ray yesterday she had Katie Holmes on who is co-starring in an upcoming movie called The Giver it caught my attention because of her description of the plot and it was based on a book so I looked it up.

In a perfect world where there is no conflict, racism or sickness, every member of society has a specific role, and 16-year-old Jonas is selected to be the Receiver of Memories. As Jonas uncovers the truth behind his world’s past, he discovers that many years earlier his forefathers gave up humanity in order to have a stable society.
It is set in a society which is at first presented as a utopian society and gradually appears more and more dystopian.
The society has eliminated pain and strife by converting to “Sameness,” a plan that has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives.
All “fairness” and “equality” and central order stability. Everyone is the same. No one is different from another and everything is “harmonious”.

Sounds like a Liberal Wet Fantasy Film doesn’t it? Or at least Wish Fulfillment.

Wouldn’t your garden variety liberal just love the idea. The fact that utopia turns into a dystopia wouldn’t likely dissuade them because the Agenda is The Agenda and they’d do it with the best of intentions so it can’t be their fault, in the end. Right?

They’d do it right. Why? Because they are just that good, and righteous, and perfect. And you’re not.

Jonas (the main protagonist) is selected to inherit the position of “Receiver of Memory,” the person who stores all the past memories of the time before Sameness, in case they are ever needed to aid in decisions that others lack the experience to make.

Additionally, the Giver is able to break some rules, such as turning off the speaker that listens to peoples’ conversations in their homes, and lying to people of the community. As Jonas receives the memories from the Giver, he discovers the power of knowledge. The people in his community are happy because they do not know of a better life, and the knowledge of what they are missing out on could create major chaos. He faces a dilemma: Should he stay with the community and the safe, consistent but shallow life it offers, or should he run away in pursuit of a life full of love, color, choices, and knowledge, but also potentially full of danger?

Lack the knowledge to make decisions, gee that sounds like Liberal Education and Liberal power fantasies. They sheep don’t know any better so they just do as they are told. They are told it’s better this way.

The society in which Jonas lives remains harmonious by way of a rigidly structured culture. Jobs are assigned to each individual according to a laborious evaluation of their skill, (each of which has its own level of honor, so as to motivate the children to put forth their best efforts), and family units are generated when husbands and wives are matched, according to personalities that will balance each other out.

Two children are allowed per family unit, one male and one female, but the parents do not conceive these children themselves. Instead, children are born to designated “Birthmothers” and then family units can apply for each child. After a family unit has served the purpose of raising the children in a stable environment, it ceases to exist; the parents proceed to the housing facility for childless adults, and the children become involved in their work and start mono-generational families of their own, forgetting their parents as they grow older.

The Community maintains this process using pills which suppress certain emotions, mainly sexual desires, which they refer to as “Stirrings”. If any citizen violates the more severe rules three times, or a baby of “inadequate quality” is born, or an elderly person becomes “well-aged,” then that person will be “released”. The book’s characters use this term to suggest a mere dismissal from the Community, though the reader eventually discovers that it is in fact a euphemism for execution/”mercy killing”/euthanasia; “released” people are injected with a fatal poison, (whether in disgrace, or in celebration of an elder’s fully lived life,) and sent to live “Elsewhere”.

Death Panels, anyone?

Young adult fiction author Debra Doyle was more critical stating that “Personal taste aside, The Giver fails the Plausibility Test”, and that “Things are the way they are (in the novel) because The Author is Making A Point; things work out the way they do because The Author’s Point Requires It.”.

Sounds like ObamaCare and most liberal “wants” to me. They want what they want, when, they want it, because they want it. And they want to force you to want it to, for the sake of “harmony”, “equality” and “fairness”. 🙂

From Banned Books world.com:

And yet the American Library Association lists the trilogy of The Giver, among the most frequently challenged books of the 1990’s.

“Challenged” mean attempts to ban it.

During the mid-to late 90’s some of the most common objections were over violent and sexual scenes, infanticide, euthanasia, and “sexual awakening.”

Notice they missed the whole liberal fantasy of “equality”. 🙂

In 1995 a parent in Franklin County, Kansas, challenged it for themes of murder, suicide, and “the degradation of motherhood and adolescence.”  The book was eventually removed from school libraries, but remained available for use at a teachers’ discretion.

Mind Control, not so much.

Charges in Johnson County, Missouri were that The Giver “desensitized children to euthanasia.”

So does ObamaCare and Abortion!! 🙂

A parent in Sidney, New York, publicly objected to the usage of “mind control, selective breeding, and the eradication of the old and young when they are weak, feeble and of no more use.”

Did they cheer for ObamaCare  (or HillaryCare back then) though, would be the question? It is the liberal mecca of New York, after all.

The list of challenges this decade alone comes from Marshall University. A few of the reported incidents, in order of year, are as follows:

2001- Banned for violence, “occult themes”, and sexually explicit material.

But I bet they teach Banana on a Condom or worse. 🙂 Because after all, “they are going to do it anyways”. 🙂

2005- Challenged in Blue Springs, Missouri, when parents called the book “lewd” and “twisted.” They demanded the work be removed from 8th-grade reading lists across the district.

Notice the sex is all these people can focus on??

2007- Parents in the Mt. Diablo School District in Concord, California, were offended by descriptions of pill-popping, suicide, and lethal injections given to babies and the elderly.

I wonder how they feel about ObamaCare, Abortion, and Legalized Marijuana? 🙂

Lois Lowry, the author: “I think banning books is a very, very dangerous thing. It takes away an important freedom. Any time there is an attempt to ban a book, you should fight it as hard as you can. It’s okay for a parent to say, ‘I don’t want my child to read this book.’ But it is not okay for anyone to try to make that decision for other people. The world portrayed in The Giver is a world where choice has been taken away. It is a frightening world. Let’s work hard to keep it from truly happening.”

But it’s a happy Liberal world where everyone is “equal”, everything is “fair” and there is not strife or conflict because everyone is the same. And we all believe as they do (or are forced to) so their is no conflict. No homophobia. No racism. No sexism. No ability to tell them they are wrong.

How great would that be, for a Liberal? 🙂

The fact that the star of the movie version is the screamingly liberal Meryl Streep, I doubt they will see the irony in their production. Doublespeak and Doublethink will  prevent it’s practitioners from seeing the irony in their own actions.

Fascinating. We are already living in the Prologue of this book.

Actions Have Consequences

Political Cartoons by Eric Allie

President Obama’s proposal to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would increase earnings for 16.5 million low-wage Americans but cost the nation about 500,000 jobs, congressional budget analysts said Tuesday. (WP)

Then they can pay for ObamaCare! They just might not have a Job…:)

A bipartisan group of lawmakers is asking the Obama administration to scale back draft regulations under ObamaCare that would force restaurants to post nutritional information on their menus.

“Specifically, the proposed rule limits the ability of businesses to determine for themselves how best to provide nutritional information to customers,” (The Government knows best always, right?) the lawmakers wrote in a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. “As a result, the proposal harms both those non-restaurants that were not intended to be captured by the menu labeling law as well as those restaurants that have flexibility and variability in the foods they offer.”

Pizza places and grocery stores in particular have complained about the draft standards, saying they would be all but impossible to maintain. For instance, there are 34 million different combinations of pizza toppings, according to an industry trade group. It’s impractical to require that they list calorie counts for all of the options, they say.

“Yet, to date there is little evidence to suggest that the FDA has considered these alternatives,” the lawmakers wrote to Hamburg. “Instead, it appears that the FDA has withdrawn from interacting with affected industries and instead proceeded on a path that will unnecessarily burden many small businesses across the country.” (The Hill)
THE AGENDA IS THE AGENDA!  And no grubby Congressperson or Pizza joint is going to stop us from our holy mission to force you to do the right thing and make you less fat!

We’ll just remove the source… 🙂

And, of course regulations like this and a $3 raise in the minimum wage won’t have any effect on a businesses bottom line or cause them to go out of business.

And if it does, who needs them.

The equivalent of about 2.5 million Americans will quit their jobs, cut their hours or stop looking for work during the next decade because of new benefits available under the health-care law, according to recent Congressional Budget Office estimates that have renewed debate over the program’s effect on the economy.

The White House and its allies argue that the government has a role in addressing a failure of the health-insurance market: the high prices and coverage restrictions that have kept health coverage out of reach for so many people. Like Social Security, which provides a safety net so people can retire, the health law may have the effect of leading some Americans to stop working, they say.

We are from the Government and we are here to help you…:)

But they called the impact positive, arguing that people have for too long been stuck in jobs that are a poor fit or that they dislike, simply for the benefits. While some people may make the calculation to just work less to keep more generous benefits, many will use their time to do something more productive, such as start their own business or take care of family members, advocates of the new law say.

Government assistance is so much more satisfying, after all…Sponge off other people, after all, they’ll be making more money to pay for it. 🙂

All you have to do is lower your expectations and swallow your pride and the government trough is open slop for you!

Here little piggy!…

Extending the maximum length of benefits beyond 26 weeks made highly educated unemployed people “more ‘relaxed’ and more patient in selecting jobs,” wrote Lei Fang and Jun Nie in a new working paper, “Human Capital Dynamics and the U.S. Labor Market.” Had unemployment benefits not been extended, they estimated, “the unemployment rate during the 2010-2012 period would have been 0.5 percentage point lower than the actual level.”

Their findings follow earlier research by Makoto Nakajima, a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Mr. Nakajima estimated extended jobless benefits accounted for 1.2 percentage points of the jump in the unemployment rate from the end of 2007 to the fall of 2009. (WSJ)

And now for the Orwellian doublespeak of the week: “You can’t say the Affordable Care Act has killed job growth,” <WH advisor> Schiliro told an audience at a Kaiser Family Foundation presentation Wednesday. “In the 46 months since it passed, over 8 million jobs have been created… No one would say the Affordable Care Act created those jobs, but you can’t say the ACA has killed job growth.”

You can’t say it created those jobs, but I just did! You can’t say it killed jobs, because that is not the Agenda Message so stop saying that!

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the financial crash and resulting recession lost the U.S. economy 8.8 million jobs.

The Congressional Budget Office issued a report concluding that the equivalent of 2.3 million jobs would be lost because Obamacare’s structure incentivizes less work with more taxpayer subsidies.

Business leaders such as the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) estimate that the Health Insurance Tax will reduce employment by up to 262,000 jobs by 2022. (DC)

The Labor Participation is the lowers it’s been in 35 years! Yet, we have 14 million new Americans since Obama came into office.

And after all, that’s why the employer mandate has been put off several times, because it’s just so good for everyone! 🙂

The employer mandate will only begin in 2015 for businesses with 100 or more full-time employees, the Treasury Department announced. Companies with between 50 and 99 employees will be exempted from the law for another year — unless a company fires workers to make it beneath the threshold for the delay.

The IRS regulations on the delay make it very clear that only companies that shrink from 100-plus full-time workers just before the delay for “bona fide business reasons” will be exempted from the mandate to have coverage.

The government that is going to force you to go out of business or fire people must approve of the reasons or else you won’t be allowed the benefit of their benevolence!

Nice. 🙂

It’s good to be the King! or the King’s Minions! 🙂

Oh, and that choice thing…

California’s health care exchange promised potential customers they would have enough physicians to choose from. But some new enrollees, including an Alameda County woman, are discovering that their doctor choices are extremely limited.

Julia Turner is surprised that she even has to search for a doctor. When she signed up for a policy through Covered California late last year, her long-time physician was listed as participating in her Blue Shield plan. It turned out; however, that he is not accepting patients with her Blue Shield policy, purchased on the Covered California exchange.

When Turner called around to find someone else to treat her, she got more frustration. “The only doctors accepting new patients are urgent care clinics,” Turner told KPIX 5 ConsumerWatch.

None of the doctors are located in the city in which she lives. Instead, Turner said, “They are in areas of East Oakland that have a lot of violence.”

Which I’m sure is some rich person’s fault, or “income inequality”.Don’t worry, Obama will demand they get paid more and everything will be alright!

Promise! Trust Him, he’s got your back! 🙂

When KPIX 5 contacted all of the 41 doctors on the list Blue Shield provided to Julia, it found only four of the doctors were actually accepting new adult patients, and only one of them was board certified.

The California Department of Managed Health Care said there is no law that requires the insurer’s provider list to be accurate. However, state law does require insurers to have an “adequate” network of doctors. That means there must be at least one doctor for every 1,200 enrollees within 15 miles of their home.

But many enrollees, in both Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans purchased on the exchange said they are struggling to find even one doctor willing to take new patients due to what are now being call “narrow networks.”

The narrowest networks – those with the fewest doctors – are in some of the Northern California counties with the lowest median household income and the highest number of Medi-Cal recipients. Alameda County falls into that category.

Pat Johnston of the California Association of Health Plans, the industry group representing the insurers, admits there some issues with doctor availability. Johnston calls it a “tradeoff.”

“Remember one of the factors here is trying to make it affordable,” he explained. He admits that depending on the insurer, there are fewer provider options for enrollees who purchase the subsidized policies on the exchange.

Those you trade Freedom (of Choice) for “security” deserve neither, and you’ll likely get it too! But be happy, it’s not the Government’s fault!! They are here to save you! 🙂

After all the pressure the insurer rolled over and made nice for her. but…“This is not what we were promised. I see those (Covered California) commercials now and I want to scream,” Turner said.

And Obama wants to mess with you even more, rejoice! 🙂

Rotten to the Core

“Today, Sebelius told me these translations were not done by a computer but by a team of experts tackling something very difficult,” says the reporter.

“Terminology in insurance is pretty arcane, even in English, and they probably did not have the smoothest translation into Spanish,” Sebelius said, excusing her team for the many mistakes. (WS)

Not my fault. And those team of experts must be the same ones who wrote this pile of crap in the first place. 🙂

And since the Democrats always pander to the Latino crowd and especially to the illegal immigrant crowd you’d think they’d have more incentive to do a better job. But hey, it’s good enough for government work! 🙂

Speaking of Insurance, one of the reasons for it going up is the inflationary costs. But I know, MSNBC and the Ministry of Truth says inflation isn’t a factor and, of course, they are never wrong (in their own heads).

Economy: Food and energy prices are rising, wages are flat and the top concern among Americans is unemployment. What was that word coined in the ’70s to describe a stagnant economy suffering inflationary pressures?

Since the Obama “recovery” started 4-1/2 years ago, inflation appears to have been relatively tame, with core prices climbing just 7% from June 2009 to December 2013.

But as CBS News discovered when it looked a little closer, the overall number is deceptive. In fact, it found food prices soaring.

The official inflation data confirm this. Overall, food prices are up 9% since June 2009, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And the cost of many staples is skyrocketing. Pork prices have climbed 14%; poultry is up 12%; eggs, 27%; milk, 20%.

Meanwhile, energy prices have climbed 18% during the recovery, and the price of gasoline is up a whopping 31.5%. Then there’s college tuition, up 23%.

At the same time, wages aren’t budging. In fact, measured in real terms, the median household income is 4% below where it was four-1/2 years ago. And while the official unemployment rate is down, that’s due to millions quitting the workforce altogether.

Yes, the economy has created 6.6 million jobs since June 2009. But the ranks of those not in the labor force climbed nearly 11 million, driving the labor force participation rate down from 65.7% to today’s 63% — a level not seen since 1978.

In fact, had the participation rate remained where it was, we’d have an unemployment rate of over 10%. So it’s no wonder the IBD/TIPP Poll continues to find nearly a quarter of U.S. households reporting that someone at home is looking for a job.

Or that, as the latest Gallup poll finds, the public lists unemployment/jobs as the nation’s top problem (23% listed that), with the economy coming in a close second at 20%. Immigration legislation, by the way, ranks far down the list at 6%, and the alleged issue of global warming, the fixation of the Obama administration, doesn’t rank at all.

Meanwhile, Obama seems bent on doing all he can to strangle the economy, raise prices and kill jobs.

He’s driven the national debt to World War II levels. His regulators are on a tear, adding the equivalent of one regulation every three hours, according to the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

Volumes of rules still need to be written to implement Dodd-Frank and ObamaCare. And the Environmental Protection Agency is threatening rules that will kill the coal industry and drive electricity prices still higher.

Rather than encourage private investment and risk-taking, Obama raised taxes on investment income and has done nothing to simplify the tax code, for individuals or businesses.

Even the president himself tacitly admits that ObamaCare’s regulations and mandates will hurt businesses. Why else would he keep putting off the employer mandate?

The Congressional Budget Office, meanwhile, figures that ObamaCare’s work disincentives will drive what amounts to 2.5 million full-time workers out of the labor force over the next decade.

And Obama’s proposed minimum-wage hike would kill half a million jobs in 2016, according to a CBO report out this week (see the nearby editorial), while raising the cost of doing business.

We saw all this in the 1970s, when growth-choking regulations, big spending, high taxes and easy money fueled stagflation. If we see a repeat now, the blame rests squarely with Obama’s economic policies. (IBD)

He is truly Jimmy Carter II, but vastly more arrogant  about it and with a propaganda media that will help cover up his “malaise”.

A Stimulating Anniversary

Five years ago today (Feb 17th), President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law. The $830 billion spending blowout was sold by the White House as a way to keep unemployment from rising above 8%. But the stimulus would fail on its own terms. 2009 marked the first of four straight years when unemployment averaged more than 8%. And of course the unemployment rate would have been even worse in those years and still today if so many people had not quit the labor force, driving labor-participation rates to 1970s levels.

There has been 14 million new births in the country. But less people are now working than before Barack. There are Less People working now than in the last 40 years.

So as they used to say on a beer commercial,”Less is More!”.

But you won’t hear that from the Ministry of Truth. He’s “created” millions of jobs. The fact that it the labor participation rate plummeting nearly 3% is why the unemployment rate has dropped is not going to be mentioned by them.

“Thanks in significant part to the actions of President Obama, the economic picture today is much brighter,” the Council of Economic Advisers told Congress in a self-congratulatory report. “While there is more work to do to help provide opportunity for all, the Recovery Act and subsequent jobs measures were an important step in the right direction.”

The White House report claims “about 9 million job-years” created or saved by the stimulus through 2012. “While these estimates are substantial, they still understate the full impact of the administration’s economic policies in tackling the Great Recession due to be being based only on the effect of fiscal measures,” the economists blithely maintain.(examiner)

Job-years? The latest Orwellian baffle-them-with-BS  term that started out as “saved or created”.

They’ve done nothing but good, so don’t listen to the naysayers. They are just political hacks with an agenda! 🙂

The Obama White House had been egged on by liberal economists like Paul Krugman, who in November of 2008 recommended a stimulus of at least $600 billion. Team Obama worked with Democrats in Congress to exceed his minimum request by more than 30%. But after the failure of the stimulus the same liberal economists who had enthusiastically supported the plan would claim that its main flaw was that it was too small.

So basically, if we’d spent EVEN MORE, it would have worked better! 🙂

This coming from the lot that said Bush’s $5 Trillion of debt in 8 years was “unpatriotic” but yet in 6 years they’ve spent $7+ Trillion.

But like most things liberal that don’t worry, we just have to try harder, spend more, and wish even harder and ta da! everything will be ok. We just have to have more faith.

It can’t be because they are wrong. Oh no, that would be impossible! They are Homo Superior Liberalis and they are never wrong. You’re just not trying hard enough and the opposition is sabotaging them!!

Shortly after the passage of the Recovery Act in 2009, Vice President Joseph Biden urged local politicians not to spend the money on “stupid things.” They ignored his advice, and so did Mr. Biden. The federal government poured billions into the government and education sectors, where unemployment was low, but spent only about 10% on promised infrastructure, though the unemployment rate in construction was running in double digits. And some of the individual projects funded by the law were truly appalling. $783,000 was spent on a study of why young people consume malt liquor and marijuana. $92,000 went to the Army Corps of Engineers for costumes for mascots like Bobber the Water Safety Dog. $219,000 funded a study of college “hookups.”
In aggregate, the spending helped drive federal outlays from less than $3 trillion in 2008 to $3.5 trillion in 2009, where federal spending has roughly remained ever since.
The legacy is a slow-growth economy: Growth over the last 18 quarters has averaged just 2.4% — pretty shoddy compared to better than 4% growth during the Reagan recovery in the 1980s and almost 4% in the 1990s recovery.
The failure of the stimulus was a failure of the neo-Keynesian belief that economies can be jolted into action by a wave of government spending. In fact, people are smart enough to realize that every dollar poured into the economy via government spending must eventually be taken out of the productive economy in the form of taxes.

The way to jolt an economy to life and to sustain long-term growth is to create more incentives for people to work, save and invest. Let’s hope Washington’s next stimulus plan is aimed at reducing the tax and regulatory burden on American job creators. (WSJ)

If it’s a Liberal, oh Hell no! After all, it was the “other guy’s fault” for sabotaging it because they did spend enough! They didn’t create enough debt! 🙂

So Vote for Them, the other guys are at fault!

America The Orwell

President Obama defended Obamacare and called signing up for the health care program “just part of growing up”.

That’s why he and the Democrats are so childish…Thanks Dad 🙂

Pelosi explained why the law (ObamaCare) is “very sound policy” during a press conference Friday:

To go to back to our founders once again, they sacrificed it all for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This law, the affordable care act, is about a healthier life, the liberty to pursue your happiness. That is solid policy, and the mandate is central to that.

Victor David Hanson:  The nightmare societies portrayed in the George Orwell novels “1984” and “Animal Farm” gave us the word “Orwellian.”

That adjective reflects a vast government’s efforts not just to deceive and control the people, but also to do so by reinventing the meaning of ordinary words while rewriting the past itself.

America, of all places, is becoming Orwellian.

The president repeatedly reminds the American people that under his leadership the U.S. has produced a record level of new oil and natural gas. But didn’t Obama radically curtail leases for just such new energy production on federal lands?

Have the edicts on the barn wall of “Animal Farm” been changed again, with the production of new oil and gas going from bad to suddenly good?

Does anyone remember that the Affordable Care Act was sold on the premise it would guarantee retention of existing health plans and doctors, create 4 million new jobs and save families $2,500 a year in premiums, all the while extending expanded coverage to more people at a lower cost?

Only in Orwell’s world of doublespeak could raising taxes, while the cost of health plans soars, be called “affordable.” Is losing your existing plan and doctor a way of retaining them?

The CBO recently warned that ObamaCare would “keep hours worked and potential output during the next 10 years lower than they would be otherwise.” That nonpartisan verdict should be bad news for workers.

Not in our brave new world. The Obama administration says it is pleased that workers will now be freed from “job lock.” What is job lock — a made-up Newspeak word right out of “1984”? Work fewer hours, make less money and create fewer outputs — and be happy.

About every January since 2009, the president has promised to close Guantanamo Bay. Is the detention facility now sort of virtually closed — in the manner that Syrian President Bashar Assad and his chemical weapons are now virtually gone, as Obama decreed years ago, and in the manner that we are still hunting down the murderers in Benghazi who were supposedly outraged over a video?

In 2004, many in the media reported that George W. Bush, the Emmanuel Goldstein of our era, had overseen a “jobless recovery.” Unemployment at election time in 2004 was 5.4%. Yet since January 2009, only two months have seen joblessness below 7%.

A record 90 million able-bodied Americans are not participating in the workforce. Yet the president, in Orwellian doublespeak fashion, recently claimed that the job picture is good. If 5.4% unemployment was once called a jobless recovery, are we now in a jobless recovery from a jobless recovery?

In 2013, the IRS confessed it had targeted particular political groups based on their names or political themes — a Big Brother intrusion into private lives that was revealed at about the same time the Associated Press and National Security Agency eavesdropping scandals came to light. In the initial media frenzy, President Obama blasted the politicization of the IRS as “outrageous.”

After the IRS was confirmed to be delaying the tax-exempt requests of conservative groups at a far greater rate than their liberal counterparts, the agency’s director stepped down at the end of his term. His replacement subsequently resigned from the agency.

And the IRS official in charge of tax-exempt decisions, Lois Lerner, invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination before Congress. She and Joseph H. Grant, commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division, both abruptly retired from the IRS.

Congressional committees and the Treasury inspector general for tax administration found that groups loosely associated with the Tea Party were more likely to have their tax-exempt requests put on hold. Yet Obama concluded this entire mess did not entail “even a smidgen of corruption.”

It takes Orwell’s doublethink to explain how a scandal might have rated an “outrageous” before the people in charge quit, retired or invoked the Fifth, and then, after their embarrassing departures, was reinvented as an episode without corruption.

In politics, both conservatives and liberals make up stuff. But Orwell, who also blasted the rise of European fascism, focused more on the mind games of the statist Left.

Why? He feared the Left suffered a wage of hypocrisy in more openly proclaiming the noble interests of “the people.” Because of the exalted ends of equality and fairness, statists were likely to get a pass for the scary means they employed to achieve them.

Right now in America, words and deeds of both past and present become reality only when the leaders put them in the correct service of the people.

Not going to happen, especially not Under King Barack the First nor under Queen Hillary The First.

Or this Congress.

They’d have to give up too much power for that.

All The King’s Men

“The most the attorney general has said is that he still has a lot he wants to accomplish on issues like criminal justice reform, voting rights and LGBT equality. He did not speak about his plans any further than that,” said Justice spokesman Brian Fallon.

Holder’s most high-profile project at the moment is comprised of two separate cases that he is taking against the states of Texas and North Carolina.

In these instances, the Justice Department is arguing that laws pertaining to voter ID and early voting have the effect of disadvantaging minority voters and should be struck down. Most observers see the battle as part of a larger war that pits Holder against a Supreme Court decision last year that gutted the Voting Rights Act.

Also last week, Holder urged states to reinstate the rights of felons to vote in a speech at Georgetown University. The attorney general has no power to change those laws but he was emphatic in his argument.

“This isn’t just about fairness for those who are released from prison,” Holder said. “It’s about who we are as a nation. It’s about confronting, with clear eyes and in frank terms, disparities and divisions that are unworthy of the greatest justice system the world has ever known.”

The speech was just one more negative mark against Holder in conservative eyes.

“That speech showed how political he is,” said Hans von Spakovsky, a former Justice Department official who is now affiliated with the Heritage Foundation and is the co-author of a forthcoming book about Holder’s tenure.

“All he talks about is the restoration of voting rights for felons. What he fails to mention is the fact that you don’t just lose your right to vote. In most states, you lose your rights to own a gun, to sit on a jury, to engage in certain kinds of employment like being a police officer. Nowhere does he say a word about restoring those rights. That tells me he is only interested in the potential votes.”

Responding to the suggestion that the attorney general’s speech on felons’ rights could be seen as an overreach, Nicole Austin-Hillery, head of the Washington office of the liberal Brennan Center for Justice, stressed her backing for Holder.

“He has a bully pulpit and speaking from that bully pulpit is massively important,” she said. “Members of Congress, state leaders, state legislators listen to what the attorney general has to say. The mere fact that he has spoken out can have influence.”
(the Hill)

Things like the Black Panther case, Benghazi, The IRS, etc are not even in his memory anymore. They don’t exist.

He’s perfect. 🙂

“I doubt that the president would want him to leave because he has in many ways acted as a heat shield for the administration” said von Spakovsky. “I can’t imagine what kind of grilling a new nominee would have to take to come in.”

And then there’s Pelosi…

House Democrats are determined to cast an election-year spotlight on Republican opposition to raising the minimum wage and overhauling immigration laws.

To try to accomplish that in the GOP-controlled House, Democrats are planning to rely on an infrequently used, rarely successful tactic known as a “discharge petition.”

It requires the minority party — in this case, Democrats, who are unable to dictate the House agenda — to persuade some two dozen Republicans to defy their leadership, join Democrats and force a vote on setting the federal minimum wage at $10.10 an hour.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said Democrats will push the wage issue when Congress returns from its break Feb. 24. Forcing a vote on a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws could occur in a few months.

Democratic leaders argue that a majority of Americans favor both steps, which are priorities for President Barack Obama, and say the House GOP is the obstacle. Republicans say Democrats are embarking on an approach that they know has little chance of success in an attempt to circumvent the will of the GOP-led House.

The odds are daunting for Democrats in what clearly is political maneuvering ahead of the elections this fall. (Townhall)

The King’s Rule

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Among the many costs of the Barack Obama presidency is an intentional corrosion for its own political gain of public faith in so many American institutions, among them Congress, the Supreme Court and the media.

If numerous sectors of society are feuding or distrustful of each other, then a well-controlled central authority like a chief executive can more easily rule the pieces. It’s classic Chicago politics, the way the mayor there controls the city’s feuding neighborhood fiefdoms of Democrat pols and workers.

We’re going to examine the American media today and urge some temperance and caution in the now endemic condemnation of the much-reviled MSM for the country’s own self-interest.

To be honest, it has done much to earn widespread public distrust. This stems from the inherent institutional and individual arrogance of its long-time monopoly over the information flow through broadcast networks and large daily newspapers.

And from its laser focus on conflict as “news” and its do-good social agendas that instinctively turn to government intervention instead of far more effective individual responsibility and action. The traditional media’s disconnection from its audience became even more starkly visible with the Internet’s welcome explosion of information sources, many of them responsible.

Reporters Without Borders released its annual World Press Freedom Index the other day. Much of it was predictable. Few would be surprised that China, Syria and North Korea inhabit the bottom rungs of press freedom.

What was shocking to those of us who favor a strong, independent — and, yes, imperfect — media as a constitutional check on government’s power was the ranking of the United States, the world’s largest economy and most enduring democracy.

The U.S. during the fifth year of Obama’s reign plummeted 13 spots to 46th in the world, right between — are you ready? — Rumania and Haiti. The group based that embarrassing ranking largely on the Obama administration’s unusually determined efforts to curb dissent and plug and track down leaks. (For the five countries deemed most free, scroll to the bottom.**)

Not all leaks are bad. With a twinkle in his eye, a knowing politician once authorized me to leak government information with the order: “See that you suppress this widely.”

Trying to gain dominance over each 24-hour news cycle, the Obama administration leaks like a sieve with the advantageous info it wants out — a new cabinet member, EPA policy shift, some nickel-and-dime small ball gimmick Obama intends to announce to placate a segment of his base. None of this is unique to him.

And no president or wannabe likes un-orchestrated leaks.

But no other administration in recent memory has gone to the lengths of this one to plug leaks, catch leakers and intimidate would-be news sources.

Atty. Gen. Eric Holder even signed a court document certifying that a Fox News reporter was a criminal co-conspirator, when he wasn’t, in order to obtain authority to wiretap him, his emails and his parents’ phone to track the reporter’s source.

Then, under oath, Holder told Congress he could not contemplate ever doing such a thing.

Obama is notorious for dodging responsibility, professing ignorance of a problem or blaming others.

In his Super Bowl interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, a jolly Obama virtually dismissed the IRS scandal of intimidating conservative groups as a bevy of “bone-head decisions” by confused local agents free of even a “smidgen” of corruption. And the president as victim implied that Fox News harps on the case to drive its own anti-administration agenda.

This from the same cynical mouth that less than nine months ago denounced the same affair as an outrageous abuse of power, promising a thorough investigation to ensure it never ever reoccurred.

Now that the Obama crowd has separated media from many who once trusted it, comes an even more dire threat.

The Federal Communications Commission this spring will launch a nationwide “study” of newsroom values, priorities and processes to see if they meet a list of government “critical information needs.” This will also involve print media over which the FCC has heretofore had no authority under the Constitution.

This process, similar to ones employed by Communist regimes behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, is not designed to gather any information at all. It’s designed to sow doubt, fear and intimidate traditionally independent news media into self-censorship, which can be a very powerful tool limiting critical news coverage.

And — oh, look! — there’s an important midterm election coming in nine months.

Americans need not trust, respect or even like the nation’s disparate news media to see this campaign for what it is: A bold political move by an omnivorous government that threatens, like a clogged human artery, to limit the flow of independent information envisioned by the Founding Fathers as so essential to the daily health of this democracy. (IBD)

RIP: The American Dream

Racing into a new century in which many of the old rules don’t seem to apply anymore, Americans are overwhelmingly pessimistic about their chances of achieving and sustaining the American dream, according to a new Marist-McClatchy Poll.

Aren’t you glad that Obama and The Democrats are here to replace the American Dream with the Government Dream!! To see how much you get from the government and how much of other people’s money you dream of and feel entitled to!

To gave Government in every step of you birth, life and even after death. Isn’t that just dreamy….

That’s vastly better than that unfair, racist, discriminatory capitalistic social darwinism isn’t it! 🙂

They see an economic system in which they have to work harder than ever to get ahead, and a political system that’s unresponsive to their needs. They see the wealthy allowed to play by a different set of rules from everyone else.

Eight out of 10 Americans think it’s harder now than before, taking more effort to get ahead than it did for previous generations. Just 15 percent think it takes the same work as it did before, and a scant 5 percent think it’s easier now.

And Americans don’t think it will get better soon, with 78 percent thinking it also will be harder for the next generation to get ahead.

The findings underscore the landscape at a time when the economy and the country are being fundamentally changed by waves of globalization and new technology, and as Americans struggle to see a better path forward and their politicians grapple over how to help.

MORE GOVERNMENT IS ALWAYS THE BEST ANSWER! 🙂

President Barack Obama speaks frequently about the growing gap between rich and poor, and he pushes for a higher minimum wage and health care subsidies, as well as programs to help people find new skills, at the same time he pushes free trade, which some blame for an exodus of jobs to lower-paying foreign factories. Republicans propose help for businesses, hoping that would lead them to hire more and pay more.

Neither side has sold the public on a future full of economic hope.

Because they are too busy with their own personal agendas (or in the Republicans case, Donkeyphobia).

Looking at work, Americans think by 75-22 percent that U.S. corporations make stockholders their top priority, over their employees.

Looking at their own lives, most people consider themselves middle class. Eighty-six percent of those polled identified themselves that way, with 14 percent calling themselves upper middle class, 50 percent saying middle class and 22 percent saying lower middle class.

Most think the middle class is hurt most by government policies. Fifty-five percent think the middle class is most likely to be left behind by those actions, while another 40 percent said the poor would be hurt the most.

But at least it’s fair!! all the serfs are screwed equally. 🙂

The findings come as the nation and the federal government struggle to help the economy rebound in a robust fashion. Officially, the deep recession that began in December 2007 has been over since mid-2009, but growth has been sluggish, consumer confidence has just begun to improve and government spending has been restrained.

“The poll really explains why people are feeling on the sidelines and so despondent,” said Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion in New York.

Polling has found that most people are wary of whether Washington can assist, but the new survey has constituents questioning whether any part of the American system can be a big help.

Two-thirds of those surveyed said people who worked hard still had a hard time maintaining their standard of living, a view that cut across nearly every income, geographic and age line.

And ObamaCare is sure to make their lives better… 🙂

Seventy-two percent of those who earn less than $50,000 a year felt that way, and 66 percent of those who earn more agreed. So did 63 percent of 18- to 29-year olds, and 71 percent of those 60 and older.

These attitudes have been building for years, Miringoff said, and the gloom is fueled by a political system that people think isn’t responsive to their needs.

Well, it isn’t. It’s responsive to THEIR needs and every few years they gin you up to “Vote for Me, The Other Guy’s an Asshole!”. An MMA cage fight between the “classes” where both fighters lose but the referee wins! 🙂

“People just feel that those in Washington are not looking out for them,” he said. “They really feel a disconnect.”

Because they are disconnected. THE AGENDA IS THE AGENDA. And besides your Lord and Masters know best. 🙂

The distrust of the wealthy – and the old belief that you could pull yourself up by your own bootstraps – was evident as 85 percent said there were different rules for the well-connected and people with money. Only 14 percent said everyone more or less played by the same rules to get ahead.

Affluenza.

For most people, conviction for vehicular manslaughter due to drunk driving warrants a lengthy sentence, but not in the case of Ethan Couch, a wealthy young man from the state of Texas.

The Keller, Tex., 16-year-old has a rare condition that a judge believes is best remedied with anything but dealing with the consequences for causing a DWI wreck that killed four people, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Couch suffers from “affluenza,” according to his lawyers, a term which means that his wealthy parents pretty much let him get away with everything. The defense saved him from a 20-year sentence; State District Judge Jean Boyd bought it at his sentencing on Tuesday and gave Couch probation instead.

“He never learned that sometimes you don’t get your way,” Gary Miller, a psychologist assigned to Couch said in court. “He had the cars and he had the money. He had freedoms that no young man would be able to handle.” (TIME)

And then you extend that to not wealthy people (school “discipline” and parenting anyone) and make it so no one is responsible for anything and it’s always some external entities fault for everything…

Even the wealthier felt that way, as 84 percent of those who earn more than $50,000 agreed, while 88 percent of those who make less concurred.

METHODOLOGY

This survey of 1,197 adults was conducted Feb. 4-9 by the Marist Poll, sponsored in partnership with McClatchy. People 18 and older who live in the continental United States were surveyed by telephone by live interviewers.

So no one wants to take responsibility for their own mistakes and politicians fuel it with things like Benghazi, where people died and no one is at fault.

So the No-Fault society is crumbling and it doesn’t look good for the future.

Gee, I wonder what the solution is?

Oh, right, that’s too hard and requires too much work.

Best to just be lazy and laissez-faire and it will work out for the best it can in the end….:)

Massive Cave-in Reported

This just in, the Global Warming Polar Vortex of ice and snow has caused a massive cave-in at The “legislative” branch of Obama’s Royal Court of Government.

It was report that 28 alleged “conservatives” were killed while bending over and kissing the King’s ass and his ring at the same time!

Maybe they thought they were the Denver Broncos and Boehner was Peyton Manning! The Legalized Marijuana in Colorado was not found at the scene of the massacre though.

But the horrific damage done may never be repaired.

The Democrats cheered and roasted Republican elephant marshmallows over the Fires of Hell in celebration.

WTF!

Before the House voted to raise the debt ceiling without any spending reductions or restorations of the military pension cuts Tuesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reportedly warned her members not to act like Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman and taunt the “mediocre” GOP leadership for caving.

According to the Washington Post, though Pelosi remained coy before the vote about whether she could deliver enough Democrats to pass the the clean debt increase, behind closed doors Pelosi and her lieutenants “instructed rank-and-file members, ‘don’t gloat, take it in stride and hang together.'”

Political Cartoons by Robert Ariail

In the end, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) were among only 28 Republicans who voted with 193 Democrats on the clean debt ceiling hike. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew had insisted that the debt ceiling be raised by February 27 if the nation did not want to face default.

House Republicans had always insisted any increase in the debt ceiling be accompanied by “spending cuts and reforms in equal or greater amount to the increase.” However, after Boehner decided to reverse course Monday and not even tie the restoration of cuts to veterans’ pensions to the increase in the debt ceiling before Tuesday night’s vote. Breitbart News Washington Editor Jonathan Strong simply wrote, “The Boehner Rule, RIP.” Earlier in the day, the House passed a bill to restore the pension cuts for military veterans by a 360-90 vote and sent it to the Senate for further consideration.

The debt ceiling bill will also go to the Senate, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Tuesday evening that he will object to raising the debt ceiling by a simple majority, which would allow the 55 senators that vote with Democrats to pass the bill without one Republican vote.

Cruz said that since the “debt ceiling has proven the most effective leverage for reining in spending” on at least 28 occasions in which “Congress has attached meaningful conditions to debt ceiling increases,” he intends to “object to any effort to raise the debt ceiling on a 50-vote threshold.”

“I will insist instead on a 60-vote threshold, and if Republicans stand together we can demand meaningful spending restraint to help pull our nation back from the fiscal and economic cliff,” Cruz said.

Cruz noted that Obama is asking for “yet another blank check to keep increasing our debt without doing anything to reform Washington’s spending problem,” even though the national debt has increased from $10 trillion to $17 trillion under him.

“If you ask anybody outside of Washington whether we should keep increasing the debt ceiling without fixing the underlying problem of out-of-control spending, the answer is, ‘of course not,'” Cruz said. “This answer cuts across party lines and ideology – outside the Beltway, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and Libertarians all agree that living within your means is basic common sense. And yet Washington is not listening to the American people.” (Breitbart)

Frog Tales

“That’s the good thing about being president. I can do whatever I want.” – President Obama

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Obama officials made clear in a press briefing that firms would not be allowed to lay off workers to get into the preferred class of those businesses with 50 to 99 employees. How will the feds know what employers were thinking when hiring and firing? Simple. Firms will be required to certify to the IRS – under penalty of perjury – that ObamaCare was not a motivating factor in their staffing decisions. To avoid ObamaCare costs you must swear that you are not trying to avoid ObamaCare costs. You can duck the law, but only if you promise not to say so.

And having the IRS serve as the talking-point enforcer for businesses tempted to speak out about firings under the law will sure help message discipline. (FOX)

Gee, no one saw the IRS Gestapo/Thought Police coming… 🙂

Desperate to keep ObamaCare from hurting Democrats’ chances in the midterm elections this November, the Obama administration is putting off part of the employer mandate for yet another year.

On Monday, administration officials said that companies with between 50 and 99 workers won’t have to comply with the mandate until 2016. Those with more than 100 workers will still have to provide “affordable” health benefits to their workers or pay a steep fine.

But larger firms will have to cover only 70% of their full-time workers next year to avoid any penalty, and 95% the year after. The Treasury Department claimed the delay was because medium-sized firms “need a little more time to adjust to providing coverage.”

Pure poppycock. The one and only reason for this delay is political. Obama wants to hide the job-killing effects of ObamaCare until after midterm elections.

When the administration first delayed the employer mandate last July — pushing it off to January 2015 — it claimed that companies needed more time to comply with all the new paperwork burdens.

Apparently, however, they didn’t realize this delay would force companies to confront the cost of the ObamaCare mandate just before the November elections. Thus the new extension.

The administration has now changed the law dozens of times, mainly to deal with political land mines going off. No one can make any serious plans based on it.

Just before its latest revision, for example, Obama decided to let people who wanted to keep their current plans do so for more than just one year. This was another political concession meant to prevent another round of cancellations stories.

The problem is that this law was supposedly written so all the pieces fit together just so.

Without an employer mandate, for example, companies would be more tempted to dump workers into the ObamaCare exchanges, forcing taxpayers to pick up the tab for any insurance subsidies.

And the claim that ObamaCare wouldn’t add to the deficit depended to some degree on companies paying those penalties. No employer mandate, no penalty.

Meanwhile, Republicans and conservatives have been busy crafting credible alternatives to ObamaCare — calling Obama’s recent bluff that he’ll consider any ideas so long as they help cover the uninsured, protect those with health problems, and cut health costs. (None of which ObamaCare effectively achieves, by the way.)

After the latest delay, House Majority Leader John Boehner complained that “once again, the president is rewriting law on a whim.”

It’s actually worse than that.

Obama is unilaterally changing ObamaCare for a reason. He wants to stretch the pain out as long as possible, hoping no one will notice they’ve been cooked. (IBD)

Because you throw a frog in Boiling Water, it leaps out. Throw it in cold or warm water and turn up the heat it boil to death. Just like you on ObamaCare.

The Emperor’s Wand

Our Great and benevolent Emperor has once again waved his magic wand  of power and decreed by his own holy writ that the Employer Sanctions of ObamaCare shall thus be waived until 2016 now.

You should all bow down and kiss his ring. He’s just that magnificent.

Congress? Who the hell needs Congress when you are The Emperor of all that he surveys!

Unilateral decisions. They were only bad when we made you think Bush did them (when he didn’t ) and when we make you think we don’t (and we do). 🙂

Political Cartoons by Henry Payne

The Treasury Department, in regulations outlining the Affordable Care Act, said employers with 50 to 99 full-time workers won’t have to comply with the law’s requirement to provide insurance or pay a fee until 2016. Companies with more workers could avoid some penalties in 2015 if they showed they were offering coverage to at least 70% of full-time workers.

The move came after employers pressured the Obama administration to peel back the law’s insurance requirements. Some firms had trimmed workers’ hours to below 30 hours a week to avoid paying a penalty if they didn’t offer insurance.

A senior administration official said the shift was a response to businesses’ concerns, though the official said no one reason was behind the change.

Under the original 2010 health law, employers with the equivalent of at least 50 full-time workers had to offer coverage or pay a penalty starting at $2,000 a worker beginning in 2014. Last year, the administration delayed the requirement for the first time by moving it to 2015. (WSJ)

And in 2015 in the heat of the battle to elect our Emperor’s successor, Queen Hillary The First will be delayed until 2017. Just watch this space. 🙂

Senior Treasury officials said the shift was aimed at giving more time for smaller employers to adjust, and for all firms to consider the number of hours their employees worked and whether they should be cutting them. The officials said firms that wanted to use the new phase-in period would have to certify they hadn’t shrunk employee numbers in order to qualify.

The Treasury also set new rules for how the requirement would apply to workers such as volunteers and seasonal employees, saying that employers wouldn’t be penalized for failing to offer those people coverage, regardless of the number of hours they were working. (WSJ)

Please reconsider blaming us and making us look bad, at least until 2017 that is, then, it’s Hilary’s problem. 🙂

Employers with fewer than 100 workers won’t have to provide health insurance until 2016 under Obamacare, as the administration said it would again delay a key requirement of the health law. Larger firms have to cover at least 70 percent of the workforce starting next year, the Internal Revenue Service said in a rule issued today.

Since that is about 2% of the workforce, this pandering. But just wait, the other shoe will follow later this year I bet. 🙂

And remember this was going to be the golden cornerstone of the whole pyramid scheme.

The rule provides employers far more flexibility than allowed by the language of the health law, which levies fines of as much as $3,000 per worker against firms that don’t comply with the requirement. (townhall)

Congress anyone? anyone?

The language of the law explicitly requires all businesses with more than 50 workers to provide employees with health coverage by January 1st of this year. Obama’s previous delay pushed that date back to 2015. Now — with a wrenching election cycle on the horizon, and on the heels of a brutal CBO report about the law’s impact on the US workforce — the administration has issued more major changes by pure fiat. The law’s full implementation date has been shoved back by another full year, the relevant worker threshold has been unilaterally doubled, and larger businesses have also received a special partial exemption. Let there be no mistake: The Obama administration is simply re-writing Obamacare on the fly, with no regard for the plain text of the statute. This is lawless behavior, as was the first big delay. The Obama Precedent is now firmly set. Future presidents may delay, postpone, or alter any portion of the this law that they find unworkable. Or politically inconvenient. Or…anything at all, really.

All hail the King! Executive Fiat now rules the Land!

The Empire has begun.

CBO in CBO Out

Political Cartoons by Steve Breen

“The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Tuesday said that the Affordable Care Act will contribute to the equivalent of 2 million workers out of the labor market by 2017,” reports Yahoo’s Business Insider, “as employees work fewer hours or decide to drop out of the labor force entirely.”

2010: Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the health summit: “It’s about jobs. In it’s life, it [the health bill] will create 4 million jobs — 400,000 jobs almost immediately.”

“CBO projections during the health care reform debate seemed to significantly underestimate the negative impact of Obamacare,” says Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas, “and because of those projections, supporters were able to jam it through by one vote. Everybody knows about that vote. And now the American people have to pick up the tab on the CBO’s errors….Was this political? Were the books cooked? CBO needs to take responsibility for the differences between their projections and the most recent updates.”

The crux of the issue is that Americans will have to work fewer hours to keep their healthcare and welfare benefits. By the reckoning of the CBO it’s the equivalent of losing 2.3 million jobs or more. Democrats are celebrating the reduction, noting that it will give workers more free time.

Because that’s what unhappy people need: more free time.

With due respect to Harry Reid, Barack Obama, the CBO and other great priests of the Do-Nothing State, providing more leisure time for people to pursue hobbies like, oh, protesting Broadway Joe’s fur coat, occupying houses they didn’t pay for, or erecting a monument to Satan in Oklahoma City, might not be the best way to find our way out of the crisis of confidence that these priests have put us in. Going for The Gold

U.S. Olympic gold medal winners could owe almost $10,000 to the IRS

As 230 U.S. Olympic athletes gear up to compete in the 2014 Winter Games, the only thing colder than the slopes at Sochi is the fact that any prizes awarded by the U.S. Olympic Commission (USOC) will be taxed by the IRS. Many Americans don’t realize that the U.S. taxes income earned abroad, and as such even the winnings of Olympic athletes are subject to the reach of the IRS.

The USOC awards prizes to U.S. Olympic medal winners: $25,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze. Relative to each athlete’s income tax bracket, some top earners such as Shaun White could end up paying over a third (39.6 percent) of their winnings to the IRS.

Additionally, because the U.S. is one of only a handful of developed countries that tax income earned abroad, it is likely America’s competitors could  be subject to such a tax. Taken together – the tax on Olympic athletes and the tax on income earned abroad – it can be said the U.S. has officially “earned the Gold” for having one of the most backwards and illogical tax codes in the world.

U.S. Tax Rates per Bracket Max. Tax Liability on Gold Medal Prize of $25,000 Max. Tax Liability on Silver Medal Prize of $15,000 Max. Tax Liability on Bronze Medal Prize of $10,000
39.6% $9,900 $5,940 $3,960
35% $8,750 $5,250 $3,500
33% $8,250 $4,950 $3,300
28% $7,000 $4,200 $2,800
25% $6,250 $3,750 $2,500
15% $3,750 $2,250 $1,500
10% $2,500 $1,500 $1,000

Americans for Tax Reform has calculated the federal income tax medal winners could potentially face.  It will vary depending on which marginal income tax bracket the athlete finds himself in for 2014. The amounts below represent only the federal income tax liability, and do not account for income taxes owed in most states.

For gold medal winners, ATR believes applying the top marginal income tax bracket of 39.6 percent to gold medal winners is reasonable for the following reasons:

  • Gold medal winners (as opposed to silver and bronze medal winners) are likely to have marketing, endorsement, speaking, etc. deals in 2014, and should have higher-than-usual earnings
  • Because state income taxes are not being calculated, there is a margin of error built into the methodology

He who has the Gold get to pay for the rules! 🙂

The Justice Department is extending full and equal recognition under the law to legally married same-sex couples. Attorney General Eric Holder is expected to make the policy announcement at the Human Rights Campaign’s Greater New York Gala Saturday night.

The Associated Press reported his prepared remarks:

This means that, in every courthouse, in every proceeding, and in every place where a member of the Department of Justice stands on behalf of the United States — they will strive to ensure that same-sex marriages receive the same privileges, protections, and rights as opposite-sex marriages under federal law.

But they can’t find Illegal aliens coming across the Border, The killer of Brian Terry, Convicted Black Panthers, The IRS scandal, The NSA Scandal, Benghazi…and so much more.

It’s good to have a totally partisaned, Agenda Driven “Justice” Department isn’t it? Make you feel so much better…

Gold Medal goes to Eric Holder….
