Vampires, Suckers, and Their Lovers

Meet the Beltway bloodsuckers. They convene in the dead of night, when most ordinary mortals have left work and let their guard down or are lying asleep in bed. Pale-faced and insatiable, the nocturnal thieves do their nefarious business in backrooms and secret chambers.

Their primary victims? Taxpayers, the free market and deliberative democracy.

Democratic leaders have been promising the most ethical, transparent, open and engaged administration for years. Instead, they have delivered a bleak and creepy legislative environment that could double as a “Twilight” movie set.

Skulking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rammed the government health care takeover package through under the cover of darkness before Thanksgiving and Christmas. House Democratic leaders forbade debate on all but one amendment not authored by themselves.

The Senate Finance Committee killed a GOP amendment that would have required Demcare to be available online for 72 hours before the committee voted. Reid and his Volterra-style henchmen cut last-minute cash-for-cloture deals behind closed doors…

In Hill parlance, this legislative shortcut is called “ping-ponging.” A better game analogy: dodgeball. With mounting opposition from both conservative Republicans and progressive Democrats, President Obama’s water-carriers must use every trick in the book to speed the final merging and passage of the bill before the end of the month.

The hypocrisy reeks stronger than rotting garlic. In 2006, House Democrats asserted that “House-Senate conferences are a critical part of the deliberative process because they produce the final legislative product that will become the law of the land.”

That same year, Reid railed on the Senate floor against informal deal-making that circumvented the conference committee process — and he attacked the use of manager’s amendments to avoid public scrutiny:

“Of course, nobody can see the manager’s amendment. It is composed of over 40 amendments. How could anyone vote for a piece of legislation such as that — a manager’s amendment with 42 separate amendments? Now, these amendments were not put in a conference committee.

“People complain about that. But at least in a conference committee, you have people working together, sticking things in. . .. Here, you have one person making a decision as to what is going to be in the manager’s amendment. There is no way to know what is in it.”

But four years later, it was Reid who snuck his 383-page manager’s amendment — stuffed with payoffs, special breaks and concessions on health care — into the Senate hopper on the Saturday before Christmas break. Four years later, it is Reid stifling the open, collaborative conference committee process he so fiercely championed.
Where’s Barack Obama? As a candidate, he promised repeatedly to broadcast legislative negotiations on C-SPAN “so that the American people can see what the choices are” and “so that the public will be part of the conversation and will see the choices that are being made.”

Team Obama’s contempt for meaningful transparency has been on display from Day One. A year ago this month, Obama broke his vaunted open-government pledge with the very first bill he signed into law. On Jan. 29, 2009, the White House boasted that the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act had been posted online for review.

Except: Obama had already signed it — in violation of his “sunlight before signing” pledge to post legislation for public comment on the White House Web site five days before he sealed any deal.

It’s painfully obvious the American people don’t want ObamaCare and equally obvious that the Democrats, especially President Obama, don’t particularly care.

The Democrats feel inoculated against voter dissatisfaction because they’ve bought into their own wishful narrative: that voters punished them in 1994 because they failed to pass HillaryCare, not because they tried. Thus, the thinking goes, the way to get voters to forgive them for ObamaCare is to pass it. (IBD)

And as if that weren’t Enough…

Senate Banking Committee Chairman (Now Retiring) Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn. arrives on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, for a series of votes.

Now that our attention is focused on airline security measures thanks to the failed airline attack on Christmas Day, it’s worth mentioning that one senator took money away from aviation security to line the pockets of a constituency that supported his presidential campaign in a big way.

Back in July, Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., proposed an amendment reducing aviation security appropriations by $4.5 million in favor of firefighter grants — a notoriously inneffective program. In fact, the money was specifically “for screening operations and the amount for explosives detection systems.” The amendment was also sponsored by Sen. Lieberman, D-Conn., and Sen. Carper, D-Del., but Dodd deserves to be singled out here because the firefighters union is a pet constituency of his. In 2007 he campaigned all through Iowa with the firefighters union. It was one of the few distinguishable features of Dodd’s ill-fated presidential bid.

So Sen. Dodd, who was at the Center of The Mortgage Crisis, Now the Airline Security Crisis is also one the big Players in stealing our Freedoms.

No wonder he wants to retire from the Senate. Maybe President Obama will fire Turbo Tax Geithner and replace him with  Sen. Dodd. 🙂

OH, IF THIS WAS ANYONE OTHER THAN A LIBERAL

Imagine the Firestorm. Describing Obama as “light-skinned” and with “no Negro dialect.”

If “You Lie” can engender weeks of recrimination from the Liberal Media. Imagine the following coming from a Republican or a Conservative:

A new book about the campaign, “Game Change,” by Time magazine reporter Mark Halperin and New York magazine writer John Heileman, said Reid, in private conservations, described Obama as “light-skinned” and with “no Negro dialect.”

Both Reid and Obama are Democrats.

“I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments,” Reid said in a statement.

Reid said he has been a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Obama and has throughout his career worked to promote diversity in his home state of Nevada and in the Senate.

Obama issued a statement accepting the apology.

“Harry Reid called me today and apologized for an unfortunate comment reported today. I accepted Harry’s apology without question because I’ve known him for years, I’ve seen the passionate leadership he’s shown on issues of social justice and I know what’s in his heart,” Obama said.

“As far as I am concerned, the book is closed,” he said. (Reuters)

Now just Imagine the hypocrisy.

Actually, you don’t have to look far: A Liberal Blog 1/8/2010 Called “Indian Country”

Republican National Chairman Michael Steele last week put his foot in his mouth during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show. Describing a Republican Party platform that he contends is “one of the best political documents” in the last 25 years, Steele underscored his point by adding, “Honest Injun on that.” Ironically, he followed by listing core conservative values.

A public apology is well overdue. Steele and the RNC must address his terrible choice of phrase. Disgust and outrage has turned into adamant calls for an apology. Michigan Congressman Dale Kildee, Democratic co-chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus, issued a statement in response to Steele’s “racist comment.”

Bet they will be equally outraged by Harry Reid’s comments. 🙂

The Investigations.

The 24/7 “Outrage”.

The calls for Impeachment.

What happens because it’s Liberal. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

So we don’t have to imagine the Hypocrisy.

2002: Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) recently resigned his position as Senate Republican leader after he made racist remarks at Sen Thurmond’s 100th Birthday Party that drew immediate criticism and outrage from Black lawmakers and leaders.

Sen. Harry Reid: “He had no alternative,” said Reid at the time claiming, “If you tell ethnic jokes in the backroom, it’s that much easier to say ethnic things publicly. I’ve always practiced how I play.”

And he plays dirty and hypocritical.

Do as I say, not as I do.

The number of times I’ve been called a Racist for just disagreeing with a Liberal is enough to gaul me beyond words!

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AS A BRIBE

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus is now reportedly making support of health care legislation conditional on White House support for immigration reform measures this year. The details aren’t clear, and the office of Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) wasn’t immediately available to discuss the question, though it’s seen as an extremely heavy lift in Congress as the midterms approach. But advocates say they still hope to get a bill moving this spring.

“You had 10 million Hispanic voters turn out in 2008, a significant number of first-time voters, many of them from immigrant families. For them, immigration reform is a defining issue,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-reform group America’s Voice. (Politico)

In November, Roll Call reported that Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Nydia Velázquez, D-N.Y., warned President Obama that the 20 members of her caucus would fight health care reform unless it covered illegal immigrants.

The president, however, had pledged earlier that illegal aliens would not be covered – a promise that prompted Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., to shout, “You lie!”

And the Liberals are still outraged by that.

“It is ironic that the president told the American people that illegal immigrants should not be covered by the health care bill, but now just days later, he’s talking about letting them in the back door,” Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, told the Washington Times. “If the American people do not want to provide government health care for illegal immigrants, why would they support giving them citizenship, the highest honor America can bestow?”

So, The Cornhusker Kickback, The Louisiana Purchase, The Dodd Pork Memorial Hospital, et aren’t enough, Now we have to have Amnesty for Illegal Aliens as a Bribe to pass  Government National Health Care.

Ain’t Democracy Grand. 🙂

And doesn’t just fill you with Hope, Love, and Peace.

This must be such a great plan.

From the stimulus to the health care takeover to holiday bailouts for bankrupt financial behemoths Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, it’s been all backrooms and blackouts ever since. The Prince of Darkness that lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. is perfectly happy with his Vampire Congress. Wraiths of a sunshine-evading feather flock together and a whole flock of Vampire Lovers who treat the American People as their food.

So Belly up to the McCongress, on special today, The American People.

Do you want Freedom with that?
