“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes” ( Candidate Obama-September 12, 2008, Dover, NH)
“The statement didn’t come with caveats.” (April 15th, White House Briefing- White House spokesman Robert Gibbs)
“I am reiterating the President’s clear commitment in the clearest terms possible, that he’s not raising taxes on those who make less than $250,000 a year.” (August 3rd-White House Briefing)
The 15+ new Taxes aren’t taxes, of course….
ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “Under this mandate, the government is forcing people to spend money [to buy insurance], fining you if you don’t. How is that not a tax?’’
Obama replied that the individual mandate “is absolutely not a tax increase,’’ since, in his view, there is good reason to impose it. He stuck to that position even when confronted with Merriam-Webster’s definition of “tax’’ – “a charge, usually of money, imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes.’’
“George,’’ chided Obama, “the fact that you looked up Merriam’s Dictionary . . . indicates to me that you’re stretching a little bit right now.’’
Stop being silly George! It’s not a Tax because, I said so. That should be enough should it not? 🙂
And this is the first time this type of Health Care has been attempted: It was instituted in Massachusetts in 2007.
Whatever it’s called, it hasn’t transformed Massachusetts into an Eden of universal coverage. According to the Department of Revenue, nearly 200,000 state taxpayers remained uninsured at the beginning of 2008. And the individual mandate hasn’t made insurance in the Bay State more affordable: Massachusetts has the highest health insurance premiums in the nation.
Far from holding insurance costs down, “reform’’ in Massachusetts seems to have had the opposite effect. “Insurance premiums rose by 7.4 percent in 2007, 8-12 percent in 2008, and are expected to rise 9 percent this year,’’ notes Michael Tanner of the Cato Institute. “By comparison, nationwide insurance costs rose by 6.1 percent in 2007, just 4.7 percent in 2008, and are projected to increase 6.4 percent this year.’’
But don’t worry, Pelosi/Reid/Obama Care will save you. It won’t do that.
Because they said so!
Isn’t that enough?
Why not? Are you a Republican?
Or just a “racist” “sexist” “ignorant tea-bagger” “Insurance company dupe/hack” “Moron”?? 🙂
More Joy from the Pelosi House Health Care Bill:
“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.”
“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…”
Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:
• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.”
When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.
“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI).
According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.
Can’t pay. Go to Jail and they collect the money!
IBD: A confusion between prices and costs has allowed politicians in various countries to be able to claim to be able to bring down the cost of health care, when in fact they only bring down the individual patient’s out-of-pocket costs paid to doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies.
The costs themselves are not reduced in the slightest when additional money to pay for these costs is collected in taxes or insurance premiums and routed through either government or private bureaucracies. Since these bureaucracies and the people who work in them are not free, they add to the cost of providing medical treatment.
To the extent that the government imposes some form of price control by refusing to pay doctors, hospitals or pharmaceutical companies as much as they would receive through supply and demand in a free market, that does not lower the costs either.
It simply means that the government refuses to pay all those costs — and such refusals to pay costs have a centuries-old track record of leading to a reduction in the amount supplied, whether what has been subject to price controls has been housing, gasoline, food or other goods and services.
Medical treatment has been no exception. The reduction in the supply of doctors, hospitals or pharmaceutical drugs may be quantitative, qualitative or both.
Oh, and it creates a Federally Funded full on Abortion-on-demand provision. Wonder how long before we have Chinese “one kid/girl” provisions to bring down the cost of Health Care??
These ideas (among many other equally horrifying recommendations) were put forth by John Holdren, whom Barack Obama has recently appointed Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and Co-Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology — informally known as the United States’ Science Czar. In a book Holdren co-authored in 1977 ,(“Ecoscience”), the man now firmly in control of science policy in this country wrote that:
• Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
• The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation’s drinking water or in food;
• Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
• People who “contribute to social deterioration” (i.e. undesirables) “can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility” — in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
• A transnational “Planetary Regime” should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans’ lives — using an armed international police force.
But don’t worry, the White House and Mr Holdren responded by saying, in effect, why are you digging up 30 year crap that I didn’t say anyhow (despite it’s in print in a book!)
Funny, they’ve never been that kind to their opposition. 🙂
Remember, this is all George Bush’s Fault!
10 Months after the Democrats have the entire government to themselves, it’s still his fault!
They have nothing to do with the massive spending deficit increases, nor the increase in unemployment that continues unabated.
It’s just not their fault.
So, when you get the IRS showing up at your door or you get a Tax lien on your home because you were without insurance it won’t be their fault either.
If you can’t afford their generosity, well, that’s not their fault either.
A report issued Friday by the Labor Department said the jobless rate jumped from 9.8 percent in September to its highest level since 1983, 10.2%.The economy lost 190,000 jobs in October, the 22nd consecutive monthly decline and the longest losing streak on record dating back 70 years. (LA Times)
Hey, that’s 190,000 more people without their Health insurance! Let’s recruit them for the Pelosi/Reid/Obama cause! 🙂
So what does Obamanomics do, extended Unemployment benefits. Which by the way, adds to the debt.
But it’s still George W. Bush’s Fault.
The jobless rate when Obama took office was 7.6%, and it was a mere 4.9% in December 2007, when the latest recession officially began. Since then, the number of unemployed workers has increased by 8.2 million, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
And the government doesn’t count as officially unemployed the so-called discouraged workers who have given up looking for jobs — and who numbered 808,000 last month, up from 484,000 a year earlier.
There also were 9.3 million people who reported that they were working part time because their hours had been cut or they could not find full-time jobs. If this group and discouraged workers are included, along with others on the fringe of the labor market, the nation’s rate of unemployment plus underemployment in October was 17.5%. (LA Times)
Remember the good old days (earlier this year):
“If I get the Stimulus Bill unemployment Will Not go Above 8%”
“In a little over one hundred days, this Recovery Act has worked as intended, We’ve been able to pull our financial system and our economy back from the brink.”–President Obama
Doesn’t that just give you the warm fuzzies.
Let’s all have a Two-Minute Hate for ole’ GWB 🙂
The fact that the Democrats have been in control of Congress for nearly 3 years doesn’t enter in to it.
So when the Health Care Reform explodes like a cluster of Nukes in your wallet, who’s fault will it be?? 🙂
Certainly not theirs. Just ask ’em. And their friends in the Mainstream Media will be happy to show you… 🙂
“Bachmann claims her rally (last Thursday) is to remind Congress of the town hall meetings over the summer, but those meetings were orchestrated by insurance companies opposed to meaningful reform from the start,” said Jason Isaacson, Harry Reid’s campaign manager. “ (Minneapolis Star Tribune)
So don’t worry, be Happy.
We are from the Government and we are here to save you… 🙂
