The EPA recently began regulating greenhouse gases from power plants and other “big polluters,” and they made it a whole month before issuing their first waiver.

So let the apparatchiks line up. Let the “free” enterprise begin. The “fairness”.

This week, the EPA issued its first exemption, Environment & Energy News reports:

The Obama administration will spare a stalled power plant project in California from the newest federal limits on greenhouse gases and conventional air pollution, U.S. EPA says in a new court filing that marks a policy shift in the face of industry groups and Republicans accusing the agency of holding up construction of large industrial facilities.

According to a declaration by air chief Gina McCarthy, officials reviewed EPA policies and decided it was appropriate to “grandfather” projects such as the Avenal Power Center, a proposed 600-megawatt power plant in the San Joaquin Valley, so they are exempted from rules such as new air quality standards for smog-forming nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

There’s something interesting about the Avenal Power Center:

The proposed Avenal Energy project will be a combined-cycle generating plant consisting of two natural gas-fired General Electric 7FA Gas Turbines with Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) and one General Electric Steam Turbine.

GE? Hmm…where have I heard that before?….

Oh, right JOBS CZAR, Jeffrey Immelt!

Naw, it could be that naked a political quid pro quo like when Obama had dinner with Chinese President Hu and suddenly there was a deal for GE engines on planes sold to China.

True, GE isn’t the head of this project, that would be  Macquarie Capital, a “green” company that is an international company. But the turbines for the project are GE.

And it’s a “green company” rather than an evil global warming polluter!!

On the upside, at least Job Creation Czar Immelt is creating jobs!

They benefit him. But isn’t that Liberals do it for, to benefit their friends, just like the Obamacare Waivers (all 732 currently) and making more government and union jobs.

Then, there’s the other liberal need, to control people. To MAKE you do what THEY WANT, regardless of whether it’s a good idea or not (Michelle Obama and her Restaurant portion control is a good one).

Old Dominion Electric Cooperative was trying to get permits for a massive new coal-fired power plant in Virginia. But last fall, it delayed the project.

David Smith, the utility’s director of environment, says there were two main factors: the recession, which was cutting demand for electricity, and uncertainty about EPA’s greenhouse gas rules.

Smith says he still hasn’t figured out how the new rules will change his project. But one thing is certain: They give a potent new weapon to the plant’s opponents.

“The environmental organizations, I mean, their goal is to challenge any coal plant,” Smith says. “Another regulation just gives them another avenue to make another challenge.”

Attorney Cale Jaffe from the Southern Environmental Law Center has been fighting the plant.

“Finally we’ve got the rules that are beginning to require power companies to account for their global warming pollution,” Jaffe says. “That’s a historic turn of events.”

Jaffe says he hopes the utility will reconsider and opt for a cleaner energy source —  like offshore wind power.

So we’ll make it economically unprofitable to do anything other than what the liberals want you to do.

For EPA’s supporters, examples like this are proof that the rules will work to constrain global warming pollution. But in the eyes of critics, they show how the rules will deflate the economic recovery.

Jeffrey Holmstead, who headed EPA’s air pollution office under President Bush, predicts that the new requirements will increase energy costs and halt industrial construction. That’s because there’s no clear rule book. Officials will evaluate each project to see what technologies could cut its pollution.

“It slows everybody down because nobody knows what the rules are going to be,” he says.(NPR)

The rules are DO WHAT EVER THE LIBERAL SAYS AT THAT SECOND AND NOTHING ELSE!

And if they change it in the next second- Do not notice, do not look away or you’ll be turned to stone! 🙂

The Swamp Monsters Strike Again

Remember when Soon-To-Be Ex Speaker Pelosi promised to “drain the swamp” of corruption and I cynically said that all that meant was she wanted to fill it up again with Democrat corruption?

Well, here are the latest alligators to add to the swamp.

Alligator #1: General Electric, owner of NBC (for now), with a CEO who is on a Board of Economic Advisors (with the AFL-CIO Union Boss and others) to the President.

Alligator #2: Government Motors (GM), bailed out by taxpayers.  Given millions of the money to the Union and to develop “green” technology. The purveyors of the “green” wonder the Chevy Volt- The pseudo “all electric” car.

They are having a love child called Corruption. 🙂

It works like this: GE has promised to buy $500 Million dollars of  Chevy Volts from GM, thus raising the sales figures for this “hot new car”.

17% of GM is owned by the UAW now because the government that took them over said so, a union fused at the hip of the Democrat party since before I was born. So a little payback will undoubtedly leak back to Obama for his 2012 re-election campaign.

Just like there cousin the August bailout of Teacher’s Unions.

Then GE is granted a $2 BILLION contract while Obama is in India for airplane engines.

Plus GE is going to be at the forefront of the “green” light bulbs that will be mandatory in a few years because the incandescent light bulb will be banned.

So you buy $500 Million dollars of electric cars, get $2 Billion in airplane sales. And Obama gets a union kickback in the process.

Sweet.

But don’t worry, Liberals and Democrats are anti-Big Business. They hate Corporate America. The greedy, capitalistic pigs!

I have come to the conclusion that they hate just hate Corporate America that doesn’t kickback ,or cowtow to THEM, or they have a Union that votes and supports them.

Those are good Businesses.

After all, Obama did bailout  GM to save the UAW not to save GM.

The Stimulus was designed to save state workers’ pension funds or at least delay the inevitable. Those were the jobs worth saving and creating. 🙂

Unions are good.Government Unions are great.

“Green” Jobs are the best. (Both kinds of green, by the way) 🙂

So what if it’s corrupt. So what if it’s quid pro quo.

Kickbacks are good if you’re a Democrat.

As long as you’re the beneficiary. Otherwise, it’s just corrupt. 🙂

And “rich” people are good as long as they are liberals, Like George Soros.

And “big business” is ok as long as they kick it it back to the Democrats,like GE.

And Unions are always much better than non-unions because of their overwhelming support for Democrats.

And Government Unions are the best, because they are dependent on the government for their jobs so they are loyal to a fault and will vote for self-preservation no matter what.

So corruption is good for Liberals, as long as they control them.

Isn’t that special! 🙂

Meanwhile, your average joe schmo who works in the private sector and pays taxes is a “moron”, and “idiot”, a “domestic terrorist”, a “racist”, “stupid” if they object.

Here’s what the president said, ‘The problem is, if we secure the border, then you all won’t have a reason to support comprehensive immigration reform.’ In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with comprehensive immigration reform. I explained that, ‘you and I, Mr. President, have an obligation to secure the border. That’s an obligation. It also has potentially positive benefits. You don’t have to have comprehensive reform to secure the border, but you have to secure the border to get comprehensive reform.’ I said, ‘you would be surprised maybe you don’t think there wouldn’t be no incentive for comprehensive reform, but I’m not so sure that’s true. In any event, it doesn’t matter. We’re supposed to secure the border.’

But that’s why it’s being done. They frankly don’t want to do it. They want to get something in return for doing their duty.”

What’s in it for me? Why should I do my job if there’s no quid pro quo.

Now that’s REAL  leadership for you!

Meanwhile, In Sanctimonious Los Angeles:

Two much-debated City Hall issues are expected to converge this week when the Los Angeles Police Department’s red light camera program moves to the front of the line for an exemption from the city’s contracting boycott of Arizona over that state’s new immigration enforcement law.

On Tuesday, the City Council is scheduled to consider — and appears likely to approve — an exception to the boycott allowing a 10-month extension of a multimillion-dollar agreement with Scottsdale-based American Traffic Solutions.

The firm operates cameras at 32 city intersections that catch tens of thousands of red light violators each year. The council’s Public Safety Committee says the exception is justified because red light cameras provide a “significant benefit to public safety.”

Whoops!

In addition to extending the current red light camera agreement, the council is scheduled to consider asking for bids on a new contract to operate and expand the photo enforcement program to more intersections starting next year.

That action could further entangle the two issues. In addition to the current vendor, a top competitor for the new contract — Redflex Traffic Systems — also has its headquarters in Arizona.

“Industry wide, they’re two front runners,” noted Matthew Crawford, a senior administrative analyst in the city’s budget office.

Poor babies, their sanctimony ran held long at 55mph  into “public safety”….

Last week, what could have been the first exemption from the boycott — an LAPD request for officers to attend an Arizona training conference — was withdrawn after some council members voiced concern. This prompted the police officers’ union to complain that political correctness at City Hall was taking precedence over public safety.(LA Times)

And then there’s this ditty From Nogales, AZ:

A Mexican drug cartel has threatened Nogales [Arizona] police officers, saying they will be targeted for retribution if they conduct off-duty drug busts.

Nogales Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham told the Nogales International on Friday that the threats stemmed from an incident approximately two weeks ago, when off-duty officers surprised marijuana smugglers while riding horseback in an unincorporated border area east of town.   The officers seized part of the drug load, and the smugglers were able to flee back into Mexico with the other part.     “As a result of that,” Kirkham said, “our officers have received threats from the cartel that they are to look the other way if they are off-duty, or they will be targeted by a sniper or by other means.”  NPD learned of the threats through informants, he said.  Following the threats, Kirhkam said, NPD notified the Border Patrol and other federal law enforcement agencies, which responded by stepping up manpower and surveillance in the area where the off-duty bust occurred.   In addition, Kirkham met with his officers to advise them of the threats and to authorize them to take precautions, including wearing firearms while off duty.

“The Nogales Police Department will not be intimidated,” he said.  Kirkham said the threats highlighted the need for more federal law enforcement at the border.
“This has nothing to do with SB 1070 or illegal immigration,” he said, “it has to do with narco-trafficking and the violence of the cartels.”  Santa Cruz County Sheriff Antonio Estrada said he was unaware of similar threats being made against his deputies.

“They seem to respect an officer who’s doing his job,” Estrada said of the cartels, “but when you do it as a civilian, they really take offense.”   Given the cartels’ track record of violence, Estrada said, any such threat “has to be taken very seriously”.
