Retarding the Future

Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez

Fascinating:

After a poll released this week showed President Barack Obama only beating his Democratic primary opponent John Wolfe Jr. by seven points, 45 percent to 38 percent, in Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District, state Democrats moved to practically disenfranchise Arkansas voters. “[D]elegates Wolfe might claim won’t be recognized at the national convention,” national party officials are telling state Democrats. Wolfe is being accused of not following the party rules.

“They want a coronation,” Wolfe tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD. “They’re conflating [Obama] with the party. Are we supposed to call him ‘Dear Leader’? Is this some kind of North Korea thing?”

Wolfe insists he’s done the due diligence to qualify for delegates and that the state party is making decisions ad hoc to get the results they desire.  “This is ridiculous,” he says. “These guys are trying to tamp down voter enthusiasm.”

If he’s denied delegates he’s rightfully won, Wolfe says, Democrats would be effectively disenfranchising those who chose him over President Obama. And if that happens, he’ll take his own party to court.

“They took my money and put my name on the ballot,” he says. “They’re trying to make people think it’s hopeless to vote against Obama.”

Wolfe is also on the ballot for Texas’s primary on May 29. (Weekly Standard)

Obama’s Million Dollar Donor is at it again:

According to Maher, tea party activism on fiscal issues is just a “reason” to vent pent-up racism.

“They hate him and they want a reason to hate him, so they make it about finances,” Maher said. “But it really isn’t about finances. Bush ran up the deficit. Bush ran up the debt.”

After all the Trillions in debt rung up by Obama is all Bush’s Fault! :)

And we are still in the mode of if you don’t vote for Obama or disagree with him it MUST BE because you’re a racist!

Nothing has Changed.

MAHER: Just the fact that we have one person in that big job — I agree it is a big job, it doesn’t mean that we’re in a post-racial world does it?

“I come from a racial minority; my name is very unusual for the United States,” Obama replied in Turkey. “And so I think people saw my election as proof, as testimony, that although we are imperfect, our society has continued to improve; that racial discrimination has been reduced; that educational opportunity for all people is something that is still available.” -Obama 2009
Maybe this is post-racialism — where nothing we used to know means much anymore, where every over-reaction gets an equal and opposite over-reaction and nobody has to honor a principle except the fear of immediate public backlash against any hint of a racial consciousness. (Politico 2009)
Fascinating…
WASHINGTON (AP) — Are Republican lawmakers deliberately stalling the economic recovery to hurt President Barack Obama’s re-election chances? Some top Democrats say yes, pointing to GOP stances on the debt limit and other issues that they claim are causing unnecessary economic anxiety and retarding growth.

15.7 Trillion in Debt (5 more in the last 4 years) and millions giving up on even looking for work has nothing to do with it. It’s all the evil Republicans fault as usual.
It’s the same old song and dance.
So where is the Democrat’s Budget?  Their plan?
Oh, they haven’t passed on in over 1100 days and have no intention of doing so anytime soon.
Funny how that worked out.
FOOD POLICE
Davis High School has been fined $15,000 after they were caught selling soda pop during lunch hour, which is a violation of federal law.The federally mandated law prohibits the sale of carbonated beverages after lunch is served. The program is an effort to help fight childhood obesity and to have young students make better food choices.

The mandate allows for carbonated beverages to be sold before lunch, but restricts students from buying lunch, then purchasing carbonated drinks afterward.

“Before lunch you can come and buy a carbonated beverage. You can take it into the cafeteria and eat your lunch, but you can’t first go buy school lunch then come out in the hallway and buy a drink,” said Davis High Principal Dee Burton.

Frankly, my initial reaction was how did the Davis High School students get caught? I mean, are government bureaucrats hiding in lockers or underneath trashcans making sure teenagers aren’t buying sodas – gasp – after lunch? I never would have suspected the federal government had the manpower – or resources – to enforce such inane and stupid regulations. I guess I was wrong.

But on a more serious note, if the principal doesn’t understand the complexities of the very law he’s required to enforce, it’s probably safe to assume his students don’t either.

Principal Burton said he does not understand the law with rules that seem to be contradictory.“We can sell a Snickers bar, but can’t sell licorice. We can’t sell Swedish Fish, we can’t sell Starburst, we can’t sell Skittles, but we can sell ice cream, we can sell the Snickers bar, Milky Ways, all that stuff,” said Burton.

This high school horror story is a perfect example of how government regulations are complicating our lives. While the obesity epidemic needs to be addressed, federal policies are robbing public schools of their vital resources. Sadly, as the author notes, the $15,000 check Davis High School must now write to Uncle Sam could have gone towards certain educational programs. At a time when public schools are consistently failing to prepare students for the rigors of college, it seems to me taxpayer dollars would be infinitely better spent at the local level – not in the hands of spendthrift Washington bureaucrats. Parents have learned the art of education and give and take. You let them have the junk food (in moderation) and you educate them on the dangers of sex outside of a committed relationship. You tell them about the dangers of overindulging in alcohol and you don’t make it as attractive as if you were to just prohibit it. And at some point, you have to let go of the reins and trust them to make intelligent decisions on their own and be ready to allow them to suffer the consequences of the bad decisions.

Which is something that the Obama Administration can’t do…let the American people make their own decisions and take the consequences of those decisions.

The upshot of the fine levied against the school truly brings the story to the ridiculous conclusion it deserves. The $15K to pay the fine will come from funds normally used for the school’s music program, art department and sports. That should make for some better, more well rounded students, eh? Oh… and how do they plan to avoid being fined again in the future? The principal is looking for a way to move the soda machines into a room which can be locked and guarded starting at lunch time. Presumably that will require somebody with nothing better to do, such as… teaching students. (Hot air)

Retarding or just Retarded. You Decide, while you still can. :)
